Nearly 33 million Americans receive assistance from The Salvation Army each year through a wide array of social services that range from providing food for the hungry, relief for disaster victims, assistance for the disabled, outreach to the elderly and ill, clothing and shelter to the homeless and opportunities for underprivileged children. About 83 cents of every dollar raised is used to support those services in nearly 9,000 communities nationwide.

It is the support of the Willamette Valley that has made The Kroc Center such a success. Thank you for making a difference in our community. Blessings,
History & Project Info In January of 2004, Joan Kroc left a large endowment to The Salvation Army for the special purpose of building and helping to operate a new collection of corps community centers across the country. After 20 months and three competitive phases, The Salvation Army of Salem, Oregon was awarded a portion of that endowment to build and operate a Kroc Center in Salem, Oregon. The Kroc Center’s 2-year anniversary will take place in September 2011.
international tsa Mission The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Purpose Promoting Wellness, Encouraging Excellence, Building Character, & Inspiring Faith
Give a Scholarship & Change a Life... “Not being able to workout has taken me to the limit emotionally, and I wanted to express my gratitude for the scholarship. This injury has shown me how much I need the stress relief that working out provides. Thank you again for this blessing. Of course my girls love it too. My oldest daughter has Down syndrome and I enrolled both my girls in the Special Needs Dance Class, they love it!” -Kroc Scholarship Recipient
There are hundreds of children and families that are living below the poverty level in our community. It’s likely they would have no way to participate in the educational programs, enjoy the beauty, the health and fun of the Kroc Center without your help. We have been able to help thousands of families in need through the Kroc Scholarship Fund. A donation of $15.00 a month will pay for a youth’s membership at the Kroc Center. Would you please consider being a part of the Halo Donor Club by making a monthly donation? All donations are tax deductible. Contributing any amount to the Kroc Scholarship Fund will make a difference in your community today! Please give the gift that can change lives forever. Please call Tom Ferrin for more information: 503-798-4843

Kroc Center Policies
Kroc Center Code of Conduct
The Kroc Center seeks to provide a safe and encouraging environment for all. With this in mind, it is important for all who participate to share a community approach for caring for each other and the facility resources. The following policies are designed with that community approach in mind. If a member is unwilling or unable to abide by these policies, Kroc leadership has the right to refuse service to a patron on a daily or permanent basis. • The Kroc Center has “no tolerance” for alcohol, tobacco, drug, weapon, or gang involvement on the premises. • Items such as clothing, jewelry, bags, or tattoos are not acceptable if displaying any of the following: vulgar language, sexual innuendoes and/or illustrations that are sexual in nature, put down to self or others (including racial put-downs) and gang graffiti, insignias, or symbols. • Patrons must refrain from use of foul language, abusive actions, and inappropriate behavior in all Kroc Center venues. • Parents will provide the appropriate oversight of their children as noted in the Age Reference Chart on page 32 of this program guide. • Appropriate exercise attire is required. Close-toed athletic shoes and full-length shirts are required in the Fitness & Gymnasium areas. Jeans or clothing with grommets, rivets, buttons, or other garnishes will not be allowed on the weight equipment upholstery. • Only light colored, or other non-marking soft-soled shoes will be allowed on the Gymnasium floor.
Child Safety
The Salvation Army is dedicated to keeping children and vulnerable adults safe from physical, emotional, and sexual harm. We refer to our safety efforts as “Protecting The Mission.” Protecting The Mission guidelines ensure the Kroc Corps Community Center emphasizes safety in the following ways:
• All Salvation Army personnel (officers, employees and volunteers) are trained in child abuse prevention and are mandated reporters of suspected child/vulnerable adult abuse. • All Salvation Army personnel undergo criminal background checks. • All adults accessing the facility may be screened against public sexual offender registry. Registered sex offenders are not permitted on campus. • The Kroc Center maintains video surveillance throughout the facility 24 hours a day. • All instructors are trained in appropriate interactions with Kroc members to enhance learning by creating a safe and inviting environment. • Programs involving children will be monitored by at least two adults in order to ensure safe interactions between Kroc personnel and children, and to provide adequate supervision of the children themselves.
• Modest bathing attire appropriate for a family-friendly facility is required; cutoffs and cotton clothing will damage the filters and are not allowed in the swimming pools. Kroc Center staff will have the right to request that a patron change or leave the facility if swim attire is deemed inappropriate.
• Programs that require solitude, such as private music lessons, will be held in open and visible spaces that will be monitored by regular walk-throughs by other personnel.
• Children over the age of 5 must use the gender-appropriate bathrooms.
• The Kroc Center constantly adapts and enhances safety protocols to adjust to needs.
• Pets are not allowed in any area of the Kroc Center building or grounds including unattended vehicles. Service animals accompanying their owners are welcome in the public areas of the Kroc Center except where their presence may create a potential danger to the participants, owners, service animals and/or equipment. Crowded areas and areas with moving equipment present special safety concerns. These areas include but are not limited to the fitness floor, rock wall, gym, and group exercise rooms. Request for the presence of service animals in these areas will be determined on a case by case basis by Kroc staff. Health codes prohibit service animals from being in ANY pools (water). • Outside catering or restaurant prepared food and beverage is not allowed in the facility. • Lost membership cards must be reported. There is a $5.00 fee to replace a membership card. • Different venues within the Kroc Center will have specific rules and guidelines associated with that venue (i.e. gym, pool, fitness center, etc.) guests must abide by the guidelines set forth within each venue. • All rules, guidelines, and schedules are subject to review and change. Kroc leadership reserves the right to enforce the Code of Conduct, which includes determining the appropriateness of behavior, attire, and appearance to ensure a family friendly environment. Violations of the Code of Conduct may result in suspension, cancellation, refusal of admittance, or implementation of a behavioral plan as determined by Kroc leadership.
Schedules, pricing, programming, and policies subject to change without notice.
Members and guests are encouraged to report suspicious behavior. Forms for anonymous reporting, called Confidential Notices of Concern, are available at any Guest Service Desk. The Salvation Army Kroc Center reserves the right to remove from the facility and terminate the membership of any member who fails to comply with any posted rules and regulations or otherwise breaches the Code of Conduct, in which case member will not be entitled to a refund of dues. Attention, Minimum Age Policy: In compliance with ORS 163.545, children under the age of 10 must be accompanied and supervised by an adult at all times in all areas. DHS states, “A child should not be left in a position of authority or be left alone in situations beyond his ability to handle. Each child must be looked at individually to make sure he or she is physically and emotionally able to handle the given responsibility. The law does not specify the age at which a child can be left alone. However, a child under 10 cannot be left unattended for such a period of time as may likely endanger their health or welfare.“

Fellowship Opportunities God’s word clearly instructs believers to fellowship together, to study His Word and to hold one another accountable. After asking Jesus into your heart, the next step is to learn how to live as a Christian. This is learned by spending time in God’s Word and with other believers. Please look over this list of small groups and choose the one(s) that works for you. For specific info on leaders or location, please call or stop by the Fellowship Center. (503) 798-4798.

Help us keep the pool safe and healthy for everyone! The KROC Center requires ALL diapered children to wear a “reusable” swim diaper in our pools. These are NOT disposable Huggies or other brand swim diapers. Disposable swim diapers are not efficient at keeping fecal matter out of the pool. Reusable swim pants are available for purchase at the front desk and can be re-used until your child grows out of them. Please cooperate with our rule to keep our pools clean and free of Recreational Water Illnesses. Protect against Recreational Water Illnesses:
• PLEASE don’t swim when you have diarrhea--this is especially important for kids in diapers. • PLEASE don’t swallow the pool water. • PLEASE practice good hygiene. • PLEASE take your kids on bathroom breaks often. • PLEASE change diapers in a bathroom and not at poolside.

Oct-Feb Competitive Pool Closures
(As of date of publication) The Kroc Center and the Salem Keizer School District share a strong partnership. When competitive swimming was scheduled to be eliminated from high school sports the Kroc Center recognized the importance of the sport in the Salem Keizer area and worked with the schools to provide pool space for teams to continue to compete. The six Salem area high school teams will practice solely at the Kroc Center between November 14, 2011 and February 17, 2012.

The decision to keep high school swimming at the Kroc Center will impact the availability of lanes in the competitive pool. The Kroc Center has scheduled two adult lap lanes to be open at all times. Lap swimmers will have access to the competitive pool during evening hours and staff will guarantee that during normal operating hours, two lanes will be available (during water polo matches and swim meets, there will not be lanes available – please consult the pool closure list). Progressive Programming
We are delighted to announce that the FAE department is moving into progressive programming. Here’s how it works: You still pay for classes like normal—9 or 10 week sessions with breaks in between; however, the routines, fundamentals, and training contents will now build progressively. For example: a student can now begin Pre-Ballet 101 in Fall, then in winter move to Pre-Ballet 102, and in Spring Pre-Ballet 103. At the end of the school year, on May 18th and 19th, students will participate in the Spring Music Concert, Spring Dance Concert, and Spring Art Showcase. Progressive programming will allow students, ages 5+, to receive the cost benefit from their classes, gain extensive training in their favorite area, and be freshly challenged throughout the program. All the classes that follow this progression are denoted with 101 next to the class title in the Fall Program Guide. Next year, Fall 2012, we will be able to offer 200 level classes for students who are ready to progress, details TBA.
