Innoventures Debate Competition The annual Innoventures debate competition took place in CAS on the 12th of March. Our 9 competitors from Grade 3-5 represented RWA fantastically and did us very proud! The debates included schools in the UAE should start after 9am, fast food restaurants should be banned in the UAE and In the UAE, STEM subjects are more important than English and Social Studies. There was some very tough debating going on throughout the competition, but in the end our competitors took first place! Well done to everyone involved- a fantastic Primary effort from our RWA champions!

News from Arabic B [Primary] Throughout the previous 2 weeks Arabic B students were very happy to celebrate their knowledge in Arabic and demonstrate their knowledge through various cultural assemblies from different regions of the world. They sang, acted, performed, and danced on the stage in 5 different assemblies. The following week, they did interactive language activities outdoor with the other Arabic classes and they shared their experiences. Primary

Here are some photos from our activities and assemblies:

Arabic A-Mother’s Day Assembly Mother’s day is a special event that we celebrate at Raffles World Academy on March 21st of every year. This year we had a big celebration for the event showcasing our Arabic A students from KG 2 to Grade 5.

Primary

The event was attended by many parents where student's enjoyed performing for their mothers. It was an emotional event celebrating our precious mothers.

News from Grade 1 Team

Grade 1 have been learning all about patterns. We have found patterns all around school and used resources in the classroom to create our own patterns. We then began to identify patterns in the world around us such as; day and night, seasons, the moon cycle and the water cycle.

Primary

We decided to go to the beach to find patterns there and create our own patterns in the sand. Can you identify any of the patterns we saw and made?

We had to show co-operation when we made big patterns as a whole class and we showed that we were principled near the open water. Most importantly, we had to be creative!

News from MFL Primary Students in their MFL classes have been developing their language skills through different activities. They are becoming successful linguists who have an awareness of their skills, and are becoming reflective learners who interact with feedback and are prepared to learn from their experiences. Primary

During the month of March we had the opportunity to celebrate our knowledge in different languages through our multilingual assembly.

Grade 4 Camp Trip ! The only thing that is left to say after our action-packed, fun-filled trip to the desert! The EcoVentures Camp in Ras al Khaimah, is the highlight of the Grade 4 year and this year was no exception. We boarded the bus bright and early, with bags packed, smiles wide and our heads full of wonder as to what we would see. First stop was a trip to the mangroves. Mangroves are a unique coastal eco-system that are home to many interesting plants and wildlife. Here students were divided into groups to explore the different features of this amazing area. After an Primary active morning looking at plants and catching crabs, we crossed the channel to the rocky shore to splash and cool off in the water. We then headed back to the buses and began the long- awaited journey to the camp in Al Jeer. On our arrival, we were briefed about the camp facilities and the students quickly settled into their rooms. After dinner, students took part in a series of “wacky races” in which they enjoyed immensely and certainly didn’t want to stop for bed!

The next day began early and students were on the go all day. From animal encounters to paleontology, snorkeling to squid dissection, the students had the opportunity to get stuck in to a wide range of activities learning about the marine and desert eco-systems. Our students were wonderful inquirers throughout, always asking questions and keen to learn and do more. Such experiences like holding a python, snorkeling and smearing their faces in squid ink were incredible for them and are sure to be memories that last a lifetime. Our night finished with songs and roasted marshmallows around a roaring campfire before falling into bed. Our last morning continued as the previous day and all activities drew to a close at 11:30. Then we were back on the bus, home to RWA where we were greeted with many smiling parents and teachers. Well done to all the Grade 4 students for being so principled and enthusiastic during our camp!

UNDER 19 BOYS FOOTBALL SEMI FINAL CUP FOOTBALL REPORT Our U19 boys football team came up just short in the semifinal of the cup against Dubai College. Missing a couple of key players in defence with Pablo and Michal both unavailable, we conceded two early goals and found ourselves trailing 2-0 after 15 minutes. The boys showed Great Spirit to fight back and level the game 2-2 with the goals coming from Ammar and Sherali. RWA were playing much better football for the majority of the game and it looked like the game was heading for extra-time until a mistake at the back allowed DC to get the winner 5 minutes from the end.

Despite this loss, this has been the most successful season of any U19 boys’ team at RWA. The boys have won three cups, winning the division 2 league, Innoventures Cup and a 7 a side tournament in February. It was a pleasure for myself and Colin to coach this talented group of players and they should be very proud of their achievements this season. Well Done!!
