It is hard to believe that tea, with its architectural teabags and temperature-sensitive kettles, is nearly five thousand years old. Apparently, it was discovered in 2737 BC by Chinese emperor Shen-Nung, also known as the “Divine Healer,” when, as legend goes, some tea leaves accidentally blew into his pot of boiling water. This plant, revered in ancient times for its abilities to impart “health, wisdom, and happiness,” is very much a part of the modern word’s economy and culture. It is the second most consumed beverage, after water, and one of today’s “happiest” beverages, with cozy cafes beckoning in almost every city in the world. When entering a teashop, one is often faced with over three thousand artisanal varieties and almost as many accessories. But, calm down, refuse to be confused. Emperor Shen-Nung would not approve. All real tea is made from the leaves and buds of the same bush: Camellia sinensis, a warm-weather evergreen that is grown in the high plateaus of China, India, and Japan. (Herbal “teas” do not contain Camellia sinensis.) Camellia is a genus of flowering plants in the family Theaceae. White tea, green tea, oolong tea, pu-erh tea, and black tea are all harvested from this species, but are processed differently. How each is processed affects its name, flavor, nutritional composition, health benefits, price, texture, and color. Like many foods today, in general, tea that has been processed the least is the best for you. Black tea derives its dark color and full flavor from a complex oxidation process that includes exposing crushed tea leaves to the air for a strictly defined number of minutes. Tea leaves meant for more mellow tasting green tea are not fermented at all, but merely withered in hot air and quickly steamed or pan-fried. Oolong tea is made by withering the plant under the strong sun and oxidation, which involves bruising or macerating the tea leaf to expose its cells to oxygen, before curling and twisting. Pu-erh tea, a specialty
Chinese tea known in that country as “red” tea, is dried, pan-fried, oxidized, and then on top of that, aged. But, what is white tea? White tea is made from young tea leaves that are picked shortly before the buds have fully opened in the spring. Often, they must be harvested in as little as two days. The tea takes its name from the silver fuzz that still covers the buds, which turns white when the tea is dried. Recent studies show that, because it is minimally processed, white tea contains more polyphenols than any other type of tea and so is especially good for you. Polyphenols neutralize free radicals. Scientists agree that free radicals are most likely the root cause of aging. Free radicals are created through the normal processes of breathing, eating, and physical activity. The negatively charged particles rip through the cell nucleus where they can knock out critical components to the DNA sequence. Mutations follow and the risk of cancer increased. Anything that can neutralize these particles before they have a chance to damage our genetic material will slow the aging process and protect us from disease. Need another reason to drink white tea? A 2004 study at Pace University concluded that white tea is more powerful than green tea and can help your body’s immune system fight off viruses and dangerous infection-causing bacteria. The study also notes that white tea is rich in fluoride, which helps prevent the growth of dental plaque, the chief cause of tooth decay. As you brew, ingest, and enjoy this gift from nature, may your cup runneth over with goodness. LG

CAN WE
THE AGING PROCESS? New Research Is Underway
Scientists are turning back the clock in mice by experimenting with their telomeres. Are we next? By Wendy Leonard PhD, MPH Telomeres (pronounced: TEL-uh-meers) are arguably one of the coolest things you probably never heard of. Derived from the Greek word telos, meaning “end” and meros, meaning “part,” telomeres are located at the ends of our DNA-packed chromosomes that protect and control cellular aging. Usually described as being akin to the plastic tips at the end of shoelaces (called aglets—yes they have a name), telomeres are actually more like the length of leader footage attached to the beginning and the end of an old movie reel. But, regardless of the metaphor we use, telomeres are a key component to aging and turning back the clock. We’re all born with long telomeres, about 10,000 base pairs long. Normal, healthy cells are programmed to replicate (divide and make an exact copy of itself ) between fifty and seventy times. Every time one of your 37.2 trillion cells divides, the telomeres become shorter. Once they become too short, that is, the “leader footage” gets too close to the actual movie footage (your DNA instructions), the cell knows its particular lifespan is over, and it dies. If the cell didn’t die, the next time it divided it would reproduce incomplete (damaged, bad) information, as the opening to the movie would be gone.
Over time, as your telomeres become shorter and shorter, your overall body function and your general health decline. While controversial, it’s now technically possibly to predict how many more years a person is likely to live based upon the length of the telomeres in your blood. So, in general, a healthy ninety-yearold body naturally has shorter telomeres than a healthy thirtyfive-year-old body. Shorter telomeres are the hallmark of both your chronological age (how many years old you are) and your biological age (how well your body systems function relative to your calendar age). Shorter telomeres are associated with aging (which is not a bad thing, by the way) as well as diseases such as cancer, heart disease, type-2 diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease, and even your susceptibility to infectious diseases, including the common cold. Here’s the thing: Until recently, we thought healthy telomeres (not including sperm, egg, and stem cells) could only get shorter. But that’s not true. Groundbreaking research reveals we can actually lengthen our telomeres through a specific combination of four lifestyle changes, namely, diet, physical activity, stress management, and social support. In fact, a five-year pilot study found that people who engaged in these four lifestyle changes increased the length of their telomeres by 10 percent. They are on their way to a longer, happier, healthier life. Those in the control group, who just went with business as usual, had a 3 percent reduction in their telomere length. Pretty crazy, right? Another study, with mice, produced some rather astonishing results as well. Scientists lengthened the telomeres of very sick, old, male mice (e.g., they had shrunken brains, intestinal damage, impaired sense of smell, among other age-related problems). Get this: The mice experienced tissue rejuvenation, improved organ function, and even increased their ability to reproduce. The telomere lengthening turned back the clock. No, we’re not mice. But further research is absolutely warranted and is already underway. You know what all this means? Contrary to popular belief, your DNA does not have to be your destiny. There’s so much more to tell you about telomeres: They impact your long and short-term health, as well as your quality and quantity of life in ways unimaginable just a few years ago. In the coming months, I’ll be telling you more about telomeres and their role in all kinds of diseases. For now, I’ll share with you some effective, telomere-lengthening lifestyle strategies that, when practiced in combination, really work.

TELOMERE
This triggers the cell to know it’s time to die.
Every single second, millions of your old cells are replaced by new ones. DNA (your genetic blueprint) is located within the nucleus of almost every cell in our bodies.
If the cell doesn’t die, incomplete information would get reproduced.
The human body is made of billions of cells. Each cell in the human body contains about 25,000 to 35,000 genes. Genes are made of DNA (the body’s genetic information/instruction manual). DNA’s genetic information is encoded in a four-letter language: adenine (A), thymine (T), guanine (G), and cytosine (C). Chromosomes are bundles of tightly coiled DNA.
Abnormal, Cancerous Cells
The telomeres of cancerous cells don’t become shorter with each replication. Instead of dying when they should, the cancer cells continue to divide, essentially becoming immortal. This immortality happens because an enzyme, called telomerase (which reverses telomere shortening), goes amuck, and continually adds sections of non-coded DNA (GGTTAG) to the end of the telomeres. This results in the formation of masses of corrupted cells being formed, called tumors.
Humans have twenty-three pairs of chromosomes (forty-six total; one set from each parent). The ends of every chromosome have a super important non-coded repeating section of DNA, called telomeres, i.e., TTAGGG, TTAGGG, TTAGGG, etc. Telomeres protect the integrity of DNA genetic information during the replication process (meiosis); and help stop DNA from unraveling. Telomeres can reach a length of 15,000 base pairs. Some of the telomere is lost each time a cell divides. Eventually, when telomeres get too short, the cell can no longer divide and it knows it’s time to make its graceful exit, i.e., die via a process called apoptosis. If the cell doesn’t die, incomplete (bad) information would get reproduced. Most of the old cells in our bodies get replaced throughout our lifetime. Last, inside your body, millions of old cells are being replaced by new ones every single second. August/September 2015 17

& Loving It Will You Remarry Me?
By Ann Tochterman Seta About fifteen or so years ago, my husband and I were invited to a Valentine’s Day party on Spa Creek. The host and hostess had moved from their large home into town, which was great for everyone who knew them because they are social to say the least and can hold a great party. We had only known them for a short time and therefore did not know a lot of the guests, most of whom were in the medical field. Did I tell you it was a costume party? More about that later . . . We arrived in regular clothing while most of the other partygoers were in elaborate costumes. As I said, all of the medical community was there, and I now realize what they say about doctors must be true, because they are fun . . . and I mean lots of fun. The first person I was attracted to was a gorgeous gal with green and purple hair. (It turns out that she wears her hair like that all the time and had nothing to do with the party.) She’s all about fun and oh so nice, as is her doctor husband, who is more low-key, like mine. Then I met this terrific guy who had a G-string around his neck and was married to a successful businesswoman, both of whom are now dear friends. In fact, we became good friends with everyone there. How could we not? It’s fascinating to walk into a room and not know anyone and learn about their backgrounds, where they grew up, lived, their careers, etc. As the party progressed and after enjoying the delicious food, I went up to one of the gals I had been talking to and asked her if she would go along with a gag I wanted to play on my husband. She was game for anything. Then I went over to the host and told him I wanted to get remarried to my husband, and could I have his permission to go upstairs and change into my wedding attire? I would have my new “best” friend (whose husband just happens to have a license to marry people, who would have guessed?) nod to the host when it was time for me to come down the stairs as a bride.
18 LOOKINGGOODMAGAZINE.COM
I had brought other clothing to wear had I not felt brave enough with this “newer” group to pull off this stunt. You see, I like to shake things up every now and then if I feel comfortable with the crowd, and I did. Since I didn’t fit into my original size 0 wedding dress anymore (shucks), I wore shorter than short shorts and bustier and spiked heels topped off with my bridal veil. Prior to us walking down the steps, the host announced that this “young” lady would like to remarry her husband tonight, so could we all be a part of this celebration? With that, my husband looked around the many rooms and realized I wasn’t there—he knew I was up to something—and, as if on cue, simply slipped away. Meanwhile, my newest friend started walking slowly down the stairs with a long stem red rose (lit up of course), and I followed her. I had made it to the bottom of the stairs with everyone clapping and wondering what this girl was up to. But the guests didn’t miss a beat and enjoyed the diversion. It is sad to say, however, my husband didn’t remarry me—he was hiding in the dining room.

SNEAK ATTACK
How to Outsmart Skin Cancer
By Kymberly Taylor August/September 2015 21
Beware. Skin cancers can be tricky. Now that summer is waning, we are still vulnerable in the fall and winter months. Melanoma, one of the deadliest forms of skin cancer, can develop anywhere on the body, even in places that are not exposed to the sun, such as the soles of the feet, in between the toes, in fingernails and toenails, and around the genitalia, explains Dr. Lisa Renfro, MD, a nationally recognized specialist based in Annapolis with an extensive knowledge of the skin and skin cancer pathology. Three of today’s most common skin cancers are squamous cell carcinoma, basal cell carcinoma, and malignant melanoma. The first two cancers can be lethal, but are also the easiest to cure, especially when detected early. Malignant melanoma is another story. Its cure rates are approximately 95 percent, if detected early. However, in later stages, it is difficult to curtail. To outsmart any kind of skin cancer, each one of us must become “Scotland Yard.” Get to know the skin you’re in. Count moles and blemishes. Keep track each month and note any asymmetry, borders that are irregular, changes in color, diameter, and any evolution or spreading. Conveniently, an anagram for this is ABCDE, devised by the Skin Cancer Foundation. If you are suspicious, stay away from Google. Instead, seek a seasoned board certified dermatologist, a “General” to help you assess the situation and, if necessary, prepare for battle. Dermatologists are trained rigorously to spot, diagnose, analyze, and treat skin cancer. Today, they have an arsenal of sophisticated diagnostic tools and weapons. These include routine excision (removal), scraping and burning, freezing, radiation, and Mohs surgery. If you have a mole that doubles in size in just a few months, find a dermatologist immediately. Often, treatment will begin with a biopsy, in which a section of skin is removed and tested. If your biopsy is positive, the type of treatment will depend upon its identity, stage, location, and on your overall health. A routine excision may be the solution. If this is the case, the surgeon will attempt to cut the tumor out all at once and, to be safe, a portion of the surrounding skin, sometimes as much as ½ centimeter. This skin (called a margin) is tested to ensure it contains no cancerous roots. If it does, your doctor will determine the best treatments. If you have a larger tumor, cancer that has returned, or cancers that are located on your face, nose, eyelid, or in cosmetic areas where preservation of the skin is paramount, your doctor may recommend Mohs surgery. Mohs surgeons are highly trained and, to stick to the war analogy, much like Navy Seals. They rarely leave the battle scene until their mission is accomplished. The surgeon uses a special technique invented by Dr. Frederic Mohs in the 1930s and now used widely around the world. The tumor is removed and a very small margin of skin around it, sometimes as small as .55 mm. The skin tissue is processed and special stains applied, creating a remarkable map pinpointing cancerous cells. Using this map as a guide, the surgeon works to remove precisely any possible micro-speck of cancer. Today, Mohs surgery has advanced but its core principles remain the same, with cure rates as high as 98 percent in certain cases. “Mohs surgery is very precise and removes as little tissue as possible to ensure the smallest possible wound,” confirms Dr. Renfro.
22 LOOKINGGOODMAGAZINE.COM
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention warns that indoor tanning can cause skin cancers including melanoma (the deadliest type of skin cancer), basal cell carcinoma, and squamous cell carcinoma. Exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation also can cause cataracts and cancers of the eye (ocular melanoma).
DANGER August/September 2015 23
Dr. Renfro, who is fellowship trained by the American College of Mohs Surgery (ACMS), witnessed firsthand Mohs’ power and possibilities. Her mother had fairly advanced skin cancer when she was just twelve years old. At the time, Mohs surgery was controversial and experimental. However, it saved her mother’s life. According to the American Cancer Society, “its cure rate is unprecedented” and is the most powerful technique available to eradicate basal cell and squamous cell carcinomas. Mohs does take time, notes Dr. Renfro. Each stage of skin is analyzed right in the lab, while the patient waits in a comfortable area. If more cancer is found, the patient returns and another, slightly larger section of skin is removed and analyzed. The process can take several hours and continues until cancerous tissue is no longer visible when examined microscopically. The good news about skin cancer is our skin gives clues, unlike some cancers that grow in the body undetected for years. If detected early, it can often be cured. Look out for danger signs and do not panic or deny its existence. Should you find evidence, don’t mess around. Locate a “General.” The BaltimoreAnnapolis-Washington region is home to many of today’s most accomplished dermatologists. Research them carefully and make an informed decision. LG Kymberly Taylor, editor-in-chief of Looking Good, has a BA in Journalism from Boston University and an MFA in Creative Writing from Columbia University.

Foods to Build Muscle
One of your most important features is your smile!
1. Organic Grass-Fed Beef Organic grass-fed beef contains lots of conjugated linoleic acid, or CLA, which is basically a fat that helps you burn fat, but many studies show how CLA also helps you gain muscle mass. For example, in one study, men who ate only 5 grams of CLA per day gained more muscle over seven weeks than men who did not eat CLA.
2. Eggs Eggs have lots of GOOD cholesterol (HDL) that helps you maintain your current testosterone levels, and according to one study, people who ate three whole eggs per day while on a muscle building workout plan gained twice as much muscle as those who only ate one egg everyday.
3. Fish Almost all fish like salmon, tuna, and herring are high in omega-3 fats, and people who have higher levels of omega-3s in their diets reported greater levels of muscle strength than those who didn’t include them. In addition, omega-3s help your muscles recover faster after workouts and increase muscle growth by helping your body use most of the protein you eat for muscle building. The problem with fish is the high mercury levels, so consult your doctor about how much fish is safe to eat.
4. Wheat Germ
Sensing, Serving, and Satisfying with integrity, honesty and the highest standards of dental care, we provide advanced clinical knowledge that promotes ideal dental health to all of our patients. We accomplish results that we are always proud of.

PRO-AGING TOOLKIT Age Gracefully with Serums
BY KYMBERLY TAYLOR 32 LOOKINGGOODMAGAZINE.COM
Many women, like me, can’t help but put on a little extra product, despite the label’s instructions. How can just a little more be bad? What if I missed a spot? I am here to set the proverbial record straight, at least when it comes to serums, which can range in price from $15.75 (Olay Regenerist Regenerating Serum) to $575 (The Essence Treatment by Crème de la Mer). These potions can be expensive, but efficient and can last a long time. Very little is needed, and a nickel-sized drop should be plenty. In fact, your skin will only absorb as much as it needs. Excess is just a waste of product. Serums cost more because the high concentrations of active ingredients it contains are more expensive than thickeners and inactive ingredients found in creams. These ingredients can be things like hyaluronic acid (to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles), vitamin C (to brighten the skin and help reduce the appearance of pigmentation and age spots), or glycolic acid (an exfoliant), to name just three. The molecules in a serum are smaller than those in
a moisturizer. This means it can deposit ingredients deeper into the skin. The thicker, heavier ingredients in creams may form a barrier on your skin. That’s great for locking moisture in. But it can also lock active ingredients out. Serums are applied after cleansing and toning, but before your moisturizer. Ideally, apply the serum while your skin is still slightly damp from cleansing. Apply sparingly. Depending on the serum, you may see an immediate improvement. But most require about four weeks of consistent use for visible results. Experiment and see which one works best for your type of skin and age. After that you may find a serum becomes an indispensable part of your daily skin care regimen. Below are some of the popular serums available to the consumer, but you will need to consult with a dermatologist, aesthetician, or plastic surgeon for medical grade serums, which may be more effective. Dreams Palm Beach Resort, Punta Cana
August/September 2015 35
Punta Cana, the name associated with the resorts on the easternmost tip of the Dominican Republic, is largely an American invention. Although people visit Punta Cana from all over the world, and especially from Canada and Britain, approximately 70 percent of tourists are Americans seeking a Caribbean getaway. In 1969, preeminent New York labor mediator Theodore Kheel and a group of American investors acquired a six-mile strip of coastal land south of Punta Borrachón. As the legendary story goes, Kheel teamed with Dominican entrepreneur Frank Rainieri and, in 1971, built a small hotel, the Punta Cana Club. In 1984, the Punta Cana International Airport (owned and developed by Kheel and Rainieri’s Grupo Puntacana S.A. corporation) opened as the first private international airport in the country, making possible the tourist boom of the last twenty or so years. Today Punta Cana consists of many grand resorts that are mostly gated and shut off from the rest of the country. Yet these resorts, which provide a temporary paradise for tourists, offer a key source of employment for many Dominicans and are a critical part of the country’s economy. Among the most luxurious of the resorts is the exceptionally well-managed Dreams Palm Beach, originally built in 1994 and reopened in 2008 after a $22 million upgrade. This 6.6-acre resort, one of three Dreams resorts on the island, is like a miniature city with shops, restaurants, a childcare center, and even a health clinic. With all its fountains, ponds, pools, and tropical plantings, Dreams is a marvel of landscape design. While you enjoy this man-made splendor, there is someone to wait on you at every turn, whether it is to serve you a drink, deliver your food, or simply hand you a beach towel. Without ever leaving the resort, you can take scuba diving lessons, go sailing or kayaking, exercise in the fitness center with a personal trainer, or enjoy the full-service spa. (If you pay for the Preferred Club upgrade, you also have access to an adult only pool.) The meals are all part of the package. French, Italian, Asian, and Mexican restaurants are among the places to dine. The food is fine (i.e., fine but not extraordinary) and service outstanding. Throughout the entire resort, the friendly and attentive staff, who are primarily Dominican, create a wonderfully relaxed and welcoming environment. (Tip: Although the standard line at most resorts is that gratuity is included, you should always tip anyway because service industry wages are relatively low.) This combination of tropical landscape design, warm weather, sandy beaches (which, at the finest resorts, are cleared of seaweed daily), and expanse of Caribbean waters makes Dreams Palm Beach a popular site for destination weddings. In fact, with roughly four hundred weddings per year at this single resort, vacationers will inevitably witness and be entertained by outdoor weddings taking place at a gazebo or on the beach. It is easy to relax within the safe confines of a gated resort. Yet it is also worth taking a walk on the beach past all the hotels. You may meet a native Dominican riding a horse with a handmade saddle, or another skillfully climbing palms and picking coconuts for sale. It’s when you are on the warm, sandy beach drinking water of a coconut freshly picked just for you that you forget that the place you are visiting is created and owned by Americans and discover that you really are someplace else. The Buti T beat

Just how does the earth move? Spinning on its axis. This is why every living plant grows in a spiral. Traditional yoga is typically done in a highly regulated quiet atmosphere, and the movements tend to be linear. However, just five years ago, while teaching yoga in Hawaii, celebrity trainer and wellness expert Bizzie Gold started moving with her own inner rhythm. A simple swivel of the hips felt so right that she incorporated it into her classes and experimented with different postures. The reaction from her students was instantly positive, and just like that her brand, BUTI Yoga, was born. Buti is an Indian Marathi word that means “the cure to something hidden beneath the surface.” The BUTI method incorporates power yoga, tribal dance, and plyometrics, all geared to transform women, body and soul. Those initial spirals created a ripple effect that has spread out, mainly by word of mouth, into a tsunami of female empowerment. BUTI is now taught in thirty states and five countries around the world. The trajectory of Bizzie Gold’s success at just thirty years of age begins in Westport, CT, when she was a young girl, taking back-to-back jazz, tap, ballet, and modern dance classes and performing in The Nutcracker. In her teens, she skied competitively all over the country while attending a boarding school for competitive skiers in Steamboat, CO. After college, Gold worked in a high-paced public relations firm, producing celebrity events. This stressful career was not without its physical toll. She was diagnosed with lupus, an autoimmune disease that attacks the tissues of the body, and spent a good deal of time in and out of hospitals. At age twenty-four, she left California and moved to Hawaii to chill out and teach yoga. Gold wasn’t in Hawaii long before she had her “ah-ha” moment, refined her swivels, and took her yoga invention back to California. Within six months of creating BUTI Yoga, she was teaching Julia Roberts the technique. BUTI quickly gained a following of faithfuls who came to identify themselves as a tribe. The BUTI method is in part influenced by its music. The BUTI room pulses with music from groups like the Portuguese band Buraka Som Sistema and the Canadian band A Tribe Called Red. To the beat of the drum everyone moves together as a unit, and the subconscious takes over. It is a shared experience, not based on any sort of competitive spirit, simply one of togetherness. This is the evolution of the tribal feeling. Women between the ages of thirty-five and fifty-five make up the majority of BUTI students. Most are mothers looking for a way to live a healthy life and get in touch with their souls. With so much emphasis on BUTI and women, how do men fit into the picture? Men are typically not allowed in the BUTI studio. Women are less likely to move uninhibitedly when there is a man present. And a strange vibration happens when a man is in the yoga room. Gold says it’s like you can feel that there 40 LOOKINGGOODMAGAZINE.COM
is something that shouldn’t be in the room, some odd sensation. So men aren’t invited. But that doesn’t mean that men are unimportant. Gold is married with two children, and it’s her partnership with her husband that allows her to create this yoga movement and pursue all of her other endeavors, including her certification program for BUTI teachers across the country. BUTI classes at Annapolis Power Yoga are their most popular since the studio opened in January 2015, with ten to twenty students in every class. Once a month Annapolis Power Yoga hosts BUTI Glow, where women cover themselves with florescent body paint, the room is lit with black lights, and the music trends toward the tribal. “It’s a bit rave-like,” says instructor Katy Johnston, “It’s like a party.” At Metamorphosis in Pittsburgh, Mia Good has been teaching BUTI for just over a year. In her boutique style studio, only twelve students can fit in the room. The age of her students ranges between twenty-five and fifty. “It’s fairly consistent who comes to class,” states Good. “If someone misses class I worry. It’s the BUTI tribe bond.” Rebecca Fatica, a small business lender, and a student of Mia’s, used to do triathlons, and worked out with trainers, but never had results like this before. She credits the spirals for giving her six-pack abs. When she travels, she always downloads BUTI workouts to do on the road. “It is absolutely amazing the feeling I get from BUTI,” Fatica says. “What’s the playlist for today? Is it the club or are we going to Africa?” That, and the intensity of the moves, keeps BUTI really interesting. Beyond the yoga studio and downloadable workouts, Gold offers a full package for emotional and nutritional support through her website, offering retreats, podcasts, and webinars, all with the intention of supporting the BUTI tribe and helping women attain their fullest potential. This August, Gold opens B Tribe, a women’s social club, in Scottsdale, AZ. With most of the BUTI studios and teachers in Arizona, it is essentially BUTI central, a place where women can practice yoga, socialize, and network. Eventually Gold wants to open these clubs nationally. “I’m trying to empower a new generation of leaders,” states Gold. The theory of B Tribe and the support network seems to be on the verge of exploding onto the world’s radar. With so many instructors putting their spin on BUTI, the moves and the music played in class, no two classes are quite the same. However, the spiral goes on and the beat is strong. Kaelen Haworth presented her first collection at NYFW in 2010 just nine months after graduating from Parsons. The Toronto native’s energetic yet refined style makes up for her experience, it seems. Since her debut, she has soared and now has her own eponymous label that draws its inspiration from the digital world. Featuring softly tailored, graphic pieces for the ready-to-wear line, the collection offers the familiarity of classic prints, such as the hyper-digitalized Hawaiian shirt motif and graphic stripes. And, there are unexpected fabrics, like the black and white pairings in laser cut neoprene. Drawing inspiration from Slim Aarons, a photographer notable for capturing the likes of socialites, celebrities, and jetsetters, and Joan Didion’s Play It As It Lays, Haworth’s Resort 2015 collection delivers dynamic natural lines. Water HELPS YOU REMAIN ALERT AND ACTIVE If you are feeling too tired, check your daily intake of water. You might be taking in less water than your body requires. Dehydration is one of the main factors that contribute to fatigue. Besides, it also leads to other symptoms like muscle cramps, low attention span, depression, and sleep disorders, to name a few.
FIGHTS OFF INFECTION
Staying adequately hydrated can help your body eliminate toxins and waste materials, allowing your immune system to better fight infection. Â
HELPS BUILD MUSCLE
Water carries oxygen to all cells in the body, including those belonging to muscles. Drinking water allows muscles to work harder and longer before they feel tired, which leads to enhanced overall strength.
