Project Type:
The Urban Parallel is a mixed-use urban community center located in San Francisco’s SoMa district. Program includes event spaces, a gym, pools, and retail.
Mixed-Use Rec Center
The design language is based on the linear differences in character and uses in the surrounding neighborhood, such as the difference between the pedestrian shops along Market Street and the industrial shops along Mission Street. Within the community center, there is a similar division of functions, with programming oriented along parallel spaces, such as circulation, sevice core, and outdoor.

Concept: Verticality + Rhythm
Overlooking a wooded lake, the rich textural materials throughout the minimal space mirrors the surrounding views of the woods. Young, managed forests have a rhythm and verticality that is used in all three rooms tying the space together. Existing:
Located in large unbuilt home, the scope of this interior project covers the kitchen layout, as well as other installations throughout the great room, kitchen, and dining room. The walls and windows were already in place in the drawings. Function:
Being an extremely large and central public space in the home, my goal was to break the space into smaller functional zones while maintaining an open flow throughout. While the kitchen is divided between the food prep areas and entertaining zone, the large great room is divided into three separate seating areas for sub-gathering.

The project is a response to the projected sea level rise. The site is in San Francisco’s Pier 70 above a historical dock. The formal strategy is one of permeation. Permeating is programmatic: the aquatic center is place for the human body, community (urban) body, and site to interact with the the water’s edge as water further permeates the site. Permeating is formal: the design takes its inspiration from cranes, ships, docks, and block patterns found in the surrounding area interacting with the changing water’s edge.
