Folio Issue 4: Call-out for pitches

Page 1

Ryerson Folio will be publishing Issue 4 in April 2015. We are looking for contributors, new and old, to help put our next issue together. Ryerson Folio has always been about giving insight and showcasing the Ryerson community to the rest of our city. We’re looking for interesting stories and intriguing visuals to include in this next issue. What issues do you think are important to our community? What stories have not been told? We want to hear from you, and work together to get these stories into print in a wellrounded and thoughtful manner. What sets our magazine apart is the fact that we are collaborative amongst all Ryerson programs and are determined to put out the highest quality of work possible. — WHO CAN CONTRIBUTE? You do not have to be a journalism student to contribute. In fact, we encourage all students/ alumni/faculty to send pitches. Past contributors have been students from photography, English, film, creative industries, business, fashion communication and journalism. — HOW TO CONTRIBUTE Please send us an email us at ryersonfolio@gmail.com with a rough outline of what you’d like to contribute. In your pitch, please state the following information: your name, your program/occupation if any, a brief bio, and a short explanation as to why you feel the story is important. The deadline to pitch your idea is Jan.16. — WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR? •Front-of-book pieces: Includes 500-word profiles of someone making an impact at Ryerson or successful alumni, personal reported essays (up to 1,000 words) and other short reported pieces / infographics. •Features: Long-form reported stories (up to 2,000 words) about the arts, lifestyle, fashion, sports and business pertaining to the Ryerson community.

•Photo spreads: Looking for photographers—feel free to pitch ideas for spreads or any of your original work. •Fiction: Including poetry, short stories and other creative writing. •Reviews: Book, music, art shows, etc. (These would have to be short, up to 250 words). Please include in your pitch: A brief synopsis of your story or visual idea, potential sources and why you think the story is the right fit for Folio. — WHAT ARE THE DEADLINES/WORD COUNTS LIKE? Each story is unique, and will have its own set of deadlines and word counts. If we like your pitch, expect several different deadlines for different drafts. A section editor will work closely with you during this process to make sure your story is the best it can be. — We look forward to hearing from you soon! Please contact editor-in-chief Emily Rivas for any questions or concerns at ryersonfolio@gmail.com. Please note that we are a volunteer, student-run publication and that we cannot offer compensation for contributions.
