h Pinboard House Above my desk is a pinboard of ever-changing images— photos, postcards, old labels, and scraps of magazines—anything and everything that can be considered work in progress! I actually have more than one board and love the way I can create a new board in minutes by pinning and rearranging the bits and pieces. This board can be put together in minutes. I think a whole row in different sizes is something my studio is crying out for!

1 Draw a house shape on to the back of the foamboard. I started with a rectangle measuring 161/2 in. (42 cm) in height by 19 in. (48 cm) in width. Mark the center point along the top line of the rectangle and use a triangle (set square) to draw a perpendicular line up from the center point and measuring 7 in. (18 cm). Join the point at the top of this line with each of the two corners at the top of the rectangle to form the roof of the house. Use the ruler to draw in a chimney.
2 Protecting your work surface with a cutting mat, use a ruler and a craft knife to cut out the foamboard shape. 3 Spread wood glue all over the front of the foamboard shape, using a piece of stiff card stock (card) to spread it evenly.

LABELS
Have you ever waited at Baggage Reclaim, watching all the black suitcases go by and wondering which one is yours? Make one of these luggage labels, and you will never have that problem again. Your suitcase will always be the one with the stylish and totally unique tag! For these, I used a combination of old labels, vintage bus tickets, and gift wrap to create a real retro look.

2 Use glue to stick your collaged or patterned paper to a sheet of thick, colored paper.
You will need I Selection of old tickets, labels, and stamps, or patterned paper I Letter-size (A4) paper I Craft glue I Thick colored paper I Templates, page 188 I Tracing paper I Pencil
1 If you are using a selection of small tickets and labels you need to join them together. Stick the labels down on a sheet of paper, with their edges touching. Make two rectangles measuring no less than 31/4 x 43/4 in. (8 x 12 cm). For the buckle strap, you need a rectangle that measures 83/4 x 3 /4 in. (22 x 2 cm). If you are using patterned paper you can skip this step.
I Masking tape I Scissors I Plastic storage folders I Sewing machine I Cutting mat I Craft knife I 1 in. (2.5 cm) buckle I Hole punch
3 Trace out the templates for the label and strap (see page 182). Turn the trace over and place the label section over one of the rectangles of patterned paper. Use masking tape to hold it in place as you go over the lines to transfer the shape to the paper. Cut the shape out, without cutting out the center opening, to create the back section.

4 Repeat Step 3 for the front section and the strap, this time cutting out the center opening.

christmas STOCKINGS
These wonderfully traditional-looking stockings are made from old sweaters and checkered blankets that have seen better days. Mix and match bright checks with Fair Isle type patterns. The scraps are joined together and given a new lease of life, ready to be hung on Christmas Eve and stuffed with festive goodies.
You will need I Templates, page 191 I Paper I Scissors I Pins I Selection of fabric scraps I Sewing machine I Tape or ribbon
1 Enlarge the templates to the right size and cut them out (see page 182). 2 Pin the templates to the scraps of fabric. You can fold the fabric in half to cut two pieces at a time, or pin them separately. Cut out two pieces for each sectionof the stocking: body, top, heel, and toe. 3 Make the front of the stocking. With right sides together, pin the heel section to the body section. Ease the fabric around the curved section of the heel. Sew a line of stitching with a 1/2 in. (1 cm) seam. Turn the heel outward and press the seam flat.
