Heritage Style In Heritage Style, Selina Lake celebrates the new nostalgic mood in interiors, using vintage and inherited furniture and other accessories in a fresh, original fashion. Our homes are more important to us than ever before, and Heritage Style harks back to the reassuring comfort of traditional interiors. Paneling, wallpaper, floral fabrics, and heritage paint colors provide a backdrop for house plants, artworks, and contemporary crafts, while upholstered and wicker furniture, pretty decorative detailing, and plump throw pillows feel warm, welcoming, and familiar. It’s not only a comforting style, but also a sustainable one, built around pre-owned and vintage pieces sourced at online auctions or on Instagram and given a new lease of life in modern homes. Heritage Style shows how to create a home that feels both modern and nostalgic at the same time—inviting, easy to live in, and full of intriguing personal touches. • Nostalgic style, but with a very 21st-century twist. • Taps into the current interiors trends for granny chic, cottagecore, and grandmillennial styling, as well as using reclaimed pieces rather than buying new flatpack furniture.

• Pearl Lowe has over 91.7k followers on Instagram and has featured in many publications, including Vogue, Stella Magazine, The Sunday Times’ Style section, The FT, Grazia, Forbes online, House Beautiful, Metro, Hello!, Harpers Bazaar, and You magazine. • Faded Glamour, be it in town, in the countryside, or by the sea, is a style of decorating that does not date, using antiques and quirky handmade touches to fill a home with character.
Home & Garden
in Faded Glamour by the Sea we get the first glimpse of Pearl Lowe’s new home—a beautiful renovation project that she and her husband, musician Danny Goffey, have created in East Sussex, UK. Built in the 1940s for an artist whose shell sculptures are still dotted round the garden, the house and adjacent cabins have been lovingly restored by Pearl. The house may have been a life-long dream for the couple, but it has only been just over a year in the making, thanks to the inspiration Pearl has drawn from many friends who live in the area and also further afield. And so she takes us on a tour of their seaside homes. A pair of antique dealers whose love of all things French inspired them to set up their own brocante in Kent; an artist with a love of beach huts; an author who swapped London life for a clifftop house with his own writer’s hut. Add to this the Malibu beachfront house of stylist Rachel Ashwell, the hippy-chic style of supermodel Helena Christensen’s waterside house, and the ‘punk noir Victorian’ vibe of the hotel created by friends from rock band The Libertines. In Faded Glamour by the Sea the owners tell their stories and Pearl explains how she found inspiration for this new chapter in her life.

• Pearl’s vintage aesthetic taps into current interiors trends for cottagecore and grandmillennial styling.
PEARL LOWE is a former singer now known for her love of vintage interiors and fashion. In 2001, she launched ‘Pearl Lowe’, her signature range of lace curtains and cushions. In 2005, Pearl moved to Somerset, where she began designing bespoke handmade dresses and childrenswear as well as interiors for many private clients. Her previous books include Faded Glamour and her autobiography, All That Glitters, which was received with acclaim when it was published in 2008. Pearl is based in Frome, Somerset, UK, but now spends the ‘best’ part of her year in East Sussex, at her new house by the sea.
My Faded Glamour by the Sea When I first set eyes on Shell House, a 1940s beach house in Sussex, I knew this was the place for me. With its clapboard exterior and wild garden, this two-storey property was not only charming but, most importantly, it had absolutely breathtaking views of the sea. 1MFBTF TJHO BOE EBUF B DPQZ PG UIJT MFUUFS BT DPOmSNBUJPO PG ZPVS BDDFQUBODF PG UIF BCPWF BOE SFUVSO CPUI QBHFT UP 1FBSM -PXF 4IPVME ZPV IBWF BOZ RVFSJFT BCPVU UIJT MFUUFS QMFBTF EP DPOUBDU 1FBSM VQPO SFDFJQU 8F XJMM CF EFMJHIUFE UP TFOE ZPV B DPNQMJNFOUBSZ DPQZ PG UIF CPPL VQPO QVCMJDBUJPO .BOZ UIBOLT PODF BHBJO GPS BMMPXJOH VT UP QIPUPHSBQI ZPVS IPNF BOE GPS ZPVS TVQQPSU PG PVS XPSL *G ZPV XJTI ZPV DBO CF DSFEJUFE JO UIF UFYU BT UIF PXOFS PG UIF QSPQFSUZ 'PS FYBNQMF +PIO 4NJUI T IPNF JO -POEPO EFTJHOFE CZ +PIO 4NJUI QMFBTF BEE ZPVS DSFEJU BU UIF FOE PG UIJT MFUUFS :PV NBZ PG DPVSTF SFNBJO BOPOZNPVT JG ZPV QSFGFS *G ZPV GFFM UIBU UIFSF JT BOZ PUIFS BSUJTU BSDIJUFDU PS EFTJHOFS XIPTF XPSL TIPVME CF DSFEJUFE DPVME ZPV JOGPSN 1FBSM -PXF PG UIFJS EFUBJMT

Blue & White at Home Blue and white is one of the most soothing and adaptable color schemes, and with so many variations it will transform every room of your home. This timeless palette is the thread that links Delft tiles, Chinese porcelain, French toiles de Jouy, and Islamic mosaics. It can be fresh and crisp; bold and saturated; dark and moody; or worn and faded. In the country kitchen, imagine smart navy cabinets and a dresser filled with an assortment of blue and white china. Cool Indigo walls are ideal for a classic dining room, while a more laidback space would suit floorboards and furniture painted in parchment and duck egg tones. In the living room, embrace coastal living with nautical stripes, or create a country idyll with gingham and floral patterns. Cerulean bed linen and chalk-hued walls bring tranquility to the bedroom, while a Moroccan-inspired bathroom might feature azure tadelakt plaster and matching tiles. • In 2020, Farrow & Ball’s Hague Blue was found to be the most searched-for paint color for the kitchen, living room and bedroom. Blue hues accounted for 55% of the 20 most popular paint colors. • Hague Blue was also named the most Instagrammable hue of 2021, with 46,859 hashtags. It was followed by Stiffkey Blue, also from Farrow & Ball. • After the stresses of lockdown and the pandemic, this calm, restful palette will be especially appealing and relevant to the emerging ‘Japandi’ trend—a fusion of Japanese and Scandinavian design.

Easy Cottage Style Easy Cottage Style evokes ideas of natural comfort—the warm glow of a winter fire or floral fabrics swaying in a summer breeze—which can be recreated in all types of interiors. In this book, inspiring case studies demonstrate how every room can be given a taste of rustic charm: the kitchen made warm and comfortable, the bedroom soft and romantic, and the living room natural and tranquil. Even antiques can be used in a contemporary way, as we all embrace the importance of sustainability in our daily lives. • Cottagecore has amassed more than 2.4 million hashtags on Instagram and a remarkable 5.3 billion hashtags on TikTok, showing that this playfully nostalgic aesthetic is here to stay.

Nomad at Home Nomad at Home dissects the desire to wander the globe from the point of view of the design-led traveler, those for whom ‘it is a better thing to travel hopefully than to arrive’. Here, compulsive wanderer Hilary Robertson takes a look at the urge to wander the globe from the point of view of design-loving travelers and investigates how that desire and those travels inspire their homes. She visits the homes of those who have completely relocated to other countries, others who have managed to carve out lives in two or three or even four different places, and also those committed globetrotters whose trips have heavily influenced their home decor. As well as offering inspiration from homes all over the globe, Nomad at Home also contains champion shopper Hilary’s nomadic sourcebook, with an address book for every country that’s covered, every story told. • All-new commissioned photography by Mike Karlsson Lundgren. • Taps into the millennial ‘experiential’ concept that exotic travel and experiences are the new luxuries. • From the author of The Stuff of Life and Monochrome Home, which has sold more than 27,000 copies. • Hilary lives in Brooklyn with her husband and son. A Life in Fabric The British heritage brand Cabbages & Roses was founded in 2000 by Christina Strutt and Brigitte Buchanan, and for the past 22 years Christina has been dressing both homes and their owners in her trademark faded floral and barely-there striped cottons and linens. A Life in Fabric celebrates every aspect of the unique Cabbages & Roses lifestyle. In a series of color-themed chapters, from Charcoal Whites to Raspberry Pinks and Hues of Blue, Strutt takes you on a tour through the fabric-filled homes (and gardens) she has adorned with her muted palette. You will be inspired by her endless ways to use fabric and vintage finds in the home, from old quilts and throws in the bedroom to faded floral curtains, pillows, and sofas in the living areas, napkins and tablecloths in the kitchen and fabric-draped canopies and deckchairs in a summer garden. Whatever the room or style of architecture, Christina’s relaxed philosophy and her love of the beauty of imperfection create timeless, accessible and relaxing interiors that are perfect for today’s living. • At the forefront of a new style of decorating, “Christina founded Cabbages & Roses in 2000, before vintage became a buzzword and florals bloomed all over the high street.” (The Independent)

Home & Garden
Taking a room-by-room approach, Christiane Bellstedt Myers describes the essentials of creating coziness from the colors to use, the textiles to incorporate, the decorative accessories and lighting to include, and how to bring a sense of personality and uniqueness to your own space. Using natural, or pre-loved and re-purposed objects is an important element of this ethos. Wherever you live—in an urban apartment, town house, or country cottage— Chris will inspire you to bring comfort and happiness into your space, whether by creating a welcoming wreath for the front door made from foraged items, kitchen curtains made from old vintage tea towels, eco-friendly natural cleaning products, or lavender bags and scented candles. Your home will become a sanctuary, a soulful setting in which you are surrounded by the things you love, a place you will long to return to at the end of the day and one that is kind to the planet, too.
781800 650978
CHRISTIANE BELLSTEDT MYERS was brought up in rural Canada where homespun items were a way of life, and where she realised that the joy and satisfaction that comes with these creations was something she wanted to share. She moved to the UK over two decades ago and seven years ago started The Cozy Club, which invites people into her house to spend the day creating a seasonal item to take home. Chris has been featured in Country Living and Homes and Antiques. Her previous books include Scandi Christmas and Seasonal Scandi Crafts, both published by CICO Books. The Home Farm
Home & Garden
Nicki Trench has created her own backyard farm from scratch, and now shares with you everything there is to know about growing vegetables, fruit, and herbs, including making your own compost, growing in raised beds, and protecting your crops from pests and disease. Nicki also explains how to rear chickens for eggs and bees for honey, and gives advice on keeping goats and pigs. The benefits of creating your backyard farm are not just economic—the energy once obsessively expended on the exercise bike can now be channeled more productively by digging the vegetable patch, turning the compost, or cleaning out the hen coop. Communities are reappearing over backyard fences as neighbors share their harvest of zucchini, spinach, and eggs. Whatever you choose to grow or rear on your backyard farm, this book offers a taste of the good life that is easy, satisfying, and inexpensive to achieve. • Interest in growing crops and keeping hens has grown as a result of spending more time at home and in the backyard. • Nicki Trench advises on which varieties of vegetables and fruit to choose, and how to grow healthy crops.

Gardens for the Soul shows how a sustainable and eco-friendly ethos can be at the heart of creating a beautiful garden, whatever its location or size. There are a multitude of different ways in which we use our outside spaces, and in Gardens for the Soul Sara Bird and Dan Duchars explore ways to create and style a haven that will suit your lifestyle. Day Dreamers seek solitude and a therapeutic experience and Home Harvesters use their garden space to grow flowers or fruit and veg; while Garden Partiers put their outside space to work as an entertaining zone for friends and family, and Great Escapers aim to recreate a chilled holiday vibe at home. Sara and Dan visit real-life yards that fall into these categories, from tiny patios to larger spaces, to glean ideas, tips, and inspiration. With a focus on sustainability and reclaimed materials, there are suggestions for choosing garden elements, from décor to lighting to furniture and accessories, as well as simple craft ideas that add quirky personal touches.

GARDENS FOR THE SOUL I 21

The Queen: 70 Years of Majestic Style The past 70 years have seen a 25-year-old Princess transform into a nonagenarian monarch who is respected and loved the world over. A woman whose views are never heard, Queen Elizabeth II has deployed fashion as a means to communicate and signal her position to the crowds who gather to see her in public and the millions who watch her television broadcasts: “I must be seen to be believed,” she has said. The Queen’s evolving attitude to dress reflects a visual landscape that began as genteel reportage in mostly black and white and has over the years evolved into today’s technicolor 24/7 news cycle, flashed around the world in seconds and driven by social media. Incredibly, in her 70th year as monarch, the Queen feels as relevant as ever before—and she is, undoubtedly, a style icon. In The Queen: 70 Years of Majestic Style, Bethan Holt celebrates the fascinating fashion evolution of Elizabeth II in her unprecedented Platinum Jubilee year. • Published to coincide with the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee of 2022. • Follows on from Bethan’s best-selling first book The Duchess of Cambridge: A Decade of Modern Royal Style.
