PRODUCTION SALE March 22, 2022 AT 1 PM CST | Kist Livestock | Mandan, ND

Welcome to the sale! Greetings from the growing family at L83 Ranch. Another trip around the sun and another exciting year in our family. We welcomed a few new members to our crazy family this year. On New Year’s, we welcomed a new son and brother into our family as Maddy and Ryan Westby exchanged their vows in a very enjoyable and memorable wedding. The last of the girls of the family is married off and we could not be luckier with the men that each of them have chosen to grow old with. On Septmeber 16th, Rylee and Tony blessed us with their rainbow babies - two beautiful girls, Millie Jo and Dusty Rose. Millie Jo is a strong, spicy little girl who loves to have all of your attention. Dusy Rose (named after our cousin and Rylee’s god father Dusty Lodoen) is mostly a calm and relaxed girl with so many smiles. Creed is now one year old and is the life of every party who loves his new cousins very much! He loves to swim, help Molly with her new vinyl business, hangout with Chandler in the garage or shop, and smile and laugh and eat almost anything. At the National Red Angus show in Oklahoma City, Ben to his surprise was named the Red Angus Herdsman of the Year! We all managed to keep it a secret from him for about a month and it was so fun to see his reaction and get the recognition he very much deserves. This year we have put together a set of bulls that we are extremely proud of. These bulls compliment structural integrity with performance and efficiency. We make our breeding decisions with the commercial rancher in mind. Our cattle have to perform in every type of climate, and after last years’ drought, our herd was still able to perform and give us this set of powerful bulls. After weaning, our bulls are developed on a high fiber ration aimed at proper growth and maturity while ensuring longevity and structural soundness. Thank you all for following along with our crazy journey in the agricultural industry. The cattle industry comes with many challenges, but many more successes when we surround ourselves with successful people. Hope to see you all on sale day! The L83 Family

It’s an honor to represent the Lodoen Family and the L83 Ranch in the marketing their Red Angus seedstock, cattle that come built from a legacy in the breed and the region. It’s this understanding of the cattle business, the climate of the region and then an unwavering approach to supplying a product that is ideal for both that has built this program, and the trust their customers have. As the program continues to progressively seek new genetics, it’s the cattleman’s approach taken by Ben and the family that keeps the fundamentals of the livestock in tune with the needs of the producers, no decision is made on a whim or to chase a trend, every breeding decision or female procurement is made after strict appraisal both on the hoof and of the family tree. You can trust that each one of the bulls that will sell on March 22nd come with the maternal backing of decades of consistency and the most potent cow families in North America. This offering along with the entire program is built upon longevity and maternal. 2022 marks a new sire group for the L83 operation, Smoky Y Ozark was purchased from the Younkin family of Oakley, Kansas. Initially his value was seen as an outcross sure fire heifer bull, however the bull calf crop, and the paternal sisters that highlighted the female sale and replacement pen have determined that he could be one of the most potent individuals to step onto the ranch. We think that their type and kind is indicative of exactly what the Red Angus breed needs, dark hided, perfect in their structural build, foot quality that is second to none and a body type that only further supports a long breeding tenure. There is immense quality throughout the offering, not only will you be met with progressively built Red Angus bulls on March 22nd at Kist Livestock but there will be a set of commercial females that have been hand selected from programs deeply embedded with L83 genetics. At a time where the cattle market is as bullish as we have seen in close to a decade, the time is right to make an investment in value added replacements. These females have been sifted with a strict sorting stick for foot quality, docility, easy keeping build and structural integrity. When it comes to finding an operation to entrust your cowherd’s future in, Ben and every single member of the L83 Ranch, have made commitments to the business and your bottom line, an investment in the program would be a logical one. The program they have built and continue to aggressively foster, offers strong foundations for a longterm relationship to navigate the task of creating the most nourishing and favorable protein known to man. We at Innovation AgMarketing are honored to stand beside and represent such a progressive seedstock operation, please feel free to reach out to any member of our team, or the Lodoen crew with any questions or queries any time leading up to March 22nd. We look forward to seeing you, Graham Blagg

L83 RANCH 46TH ANNUAL PRODUCTION SALE

Guide to Genetic Data ProS - Profi tability and Sustainability is an all-purpose index that predicts average economic differences in all segments in the beef supply chain. This index is a combination of the breeding objectives modeled in the HerdBuilder and GridMaster selection indexes. In this index, replacement heifers are retained from within the herd and all remaining progeny are fed out to slaughter and sold on a quality-based grid. Traits included in this index include calving ease, growth, HPG, STAY, Mature Weight, Dry Matter Intake and carcass traits. The resulting index is expressed in dollars per head born (Index/High Value).

HB - HerdBuilder is a maternal selection index that predicts the economic differences of animals for traits that are important from conception through weaning. Expressed as dollars per head born, HB is calculated based on the scenario that bulls are mated to heifers and cows, replacement heifers are retained and all remaining progeny are marketed at weaning. Traits included in the HB index include Calving Ease Direct, Calving Ease Maternal, Weaning Weight, Milk, Mature Weight, Heifer Pregnancy and Stayability (Index/High Value).

CED - Calving Ease Direct predicts differences in the percent of calves born unassisted out of 2-year-old dams. (Percent/High Value) BW - Birth Weight predicts differences in actual birth weight of progeny. (Pounds/Low Value) WW - Weaning Weight predicts differences in 205-day weaning weight. (Pounds/High Value) YW - Yearling Weight predicts differences in 365-day yearling weight. (Pounds/High Value) ADG - Average Daily Gain predicts differences in weight gain between 205 and 365 days of age. (Pounds/High Value) DMI - Dry Matter Intake predicts differences in daily feed intake as measured in a feedlot during the post-weaning period. (Pounds/Low Value) MILK - Milk predicts differences in weaning weight attributed to the milking ability of the animal’s daughters. (Pounds/High Value) ME - Maintenance Energy predicts the difference in maintence energy requirements. (Mcal per Month/Low Value)

GM - GridMaster is a selection index that predicts the average economic difference of non-replacement calves through the postweaning phase of production. GM places selection pressure on growth, feedyard performance and carcass traits. Expressed as dollars per head born, GM is calculated based on the scenario that progeny are fed out to slaughter and marketed on a quality-based carcass grid. Traits included in GM include Average Daily Gain, Carcass Weight, Dry Matter Intake, Marbling, Back Fat and Rib Eye Area (Index/High Value).

HPG - Heifer Pregnancy predicts differences in the percent of daughters who are able to conceive and calve at 2 years of age following exposure to breeding. (Percent/High Value) CEM - Calving Ease Maternal predicts differences in the percent of daughters who are able to calve unassisted as 2-year-old heifers. (Percent/High Value) STAY - Stayability predicts differences in the ability of an animals’ retained daughters to remain productive in the herd – calve every year – through 6 years of age. (Percent/High Value) MARB - Marbling predicts differences in marbling score – amount of intramuscular fat measured at the 13th rib. (Marbling Score Units/High Value) YG - Yield Grade predicts differences in USDA Yield Grade, which is calculated using CW, REA and Fat. (Yield Grade Units/Low Value) CW - Carcass Weight predicts differences in actual hot carcass weight. (Pounds/High Value) REA - Ribeye Area predicts differences in square inches of ribeye area measured at the 13th rib.(Square Inches/High Value) FAT - Fat predicts differences in the depth of backfat measured between the 12th and 13th ribs. (Inches/Low Value)

Smoky Y Ozark Sons

1 This is one of the most dynamic sets of bulls we have ever put together for our annual bull sale! We are starting the offering with the first sons of our exciting new herd sire, Smoky Y Ozark, and his progeny are more than we could have ever hoped for. They are dark hided, powerful built and ideal at the ground. Ozark goes back to the outcross influence of Crump Powder River 7787 and we expect him to leave a long standing impact here in Westhope, to this point both his sons and daughters elevate themselves amongst our favorites. L83 Jenga 12J epitomizes everything we look for in a heifer bull prospect, a moderate 65 pound actual birthweight, a smooth and angular front third and out of a maternally driven pedigree. His mother, L83 Renee 915G is a Gameface Daughter, these are females that excel for foot and udder structure, length of body, and longevity. 12J goes back to same legendary Renee 764E, who he shares as the granddam of Lot 13.

Smoky Y Ozark Sons

2 L83 Jentry 10J is a bigger and burly stud, that is extra powerful when you get up on him. His shape only gets wider the further you get from his smooth shoulder shape. We love his dark hide color, big circumference of foot and impressive body density. Not only is he impressive in the flesh, his pedigree supports his case of excellence, his mother is a full sister to the $20,000 L83 Fannie 820F who sold to Colby Erickson. His granddam is the notable 203Z donor, she has been a role model producer for our program, producing countless progeny that have been influential in both our program and those of progressive breeders across North America.

3 Combining some of the most potent and modern genetics we have sourced, Joseph 35J is a direct son of Ozark and out of a young PTO daughter that stems from the Larkana Tribe that has been so instrumental in forming the cowherd we have today. He crossed the scales as the heaviest son of Ozark at both weaning and yearling times, and tabulates genomically to read the same way. Add the fact he ranks top 16% for milk, we think that he is the kind to add value to a calf crop through additions of pay weight whilst keeping calving ease and birthweights in check.

4 If you place importance on the cow families that feature in your potential herd sires pedigree then you can trust the one behind Joey 9J is stacked with our best! L83 Gina 945G is a first calving daughter of L83 Miss Mulberry 947, a female that has made a major impact at L83. He is ultra-square in his pin set, built wide at the ground and extra powerful in his upper rib shape. We love the look he gives from the side, and beyond generating feeder quality of added value, we think he will sire tremendous replacement females that come with generations of maternal power.

5 L83 Jagger 7J was raised by an awesome first calving heifer who stems from the powerful influence of the L83 Stacey matriarch. He is the softer bodied type that keeps both length and depth of body in check and he adjusted to an impressive 1275 pounds at a year. He also sits among the elite 6% of the breed for milk. You will notice a constant theme of cow power behind these bulls, and 7J stems from the next generation of females that will carry our program. 8

6 L83 Jon 25J tabulates with the most calving ease of any Ozark son, sitting within the top third of the breed for both calving ease and birthweight. We think his build mimics the predictions as he is the longer spined and smoother muscled type that we predict to sire lower birthweigh progeny that still have some growth when it comes to weaning time. He stems back to the influence of the legendary Mulberry cow family on the maternal side and we foresee him siring female offspring that excel for udder quality and mothering ability, just like the cows that stand behind him.

7 Some more performance will come with the addition of L83 Jenesis 13J to the sire battery, he is one of the most expressive muscled members of the Smoky Y Ozark clan, both in the middle and rear thirds of his body cavity. If your searching to add a little more punch to your calf crop whilst maintaining the maternal quality of your replacement heifers and not taking risks with calving ease and birthweight then inspection is due here.

8 L83 Junior 6J stems back to another young Redeam 18C daughter that appears set for a bright future, particularly after just raising this first calf. 928G goes back to one of the highest valued individuals to come out the L83 program, the $100,000 – Entourage. An in-person appraisal will reveal his phenotype to be the bigger and stouter type and he will be a powerful herd sire prospect that’s built for the long haul. 9 Don’t allow the lack of maturity in L83 Jimmy 42J to sway you from the quality he is built with, he is a combination of extra muscle shape, levelness of hip and awesome good looks, a theme that we are finding to be consistent with these Ozark sons. His first calving mother, L83 Georgia 943G is a direct daughter of a time tested and proven matron in the herd, L83 Miss Tidal Wave 903, the mother of the past high selling L83 Hollis 26H that sold to Tolbert Cattle and Jason Berna.

10 You could confuse the tattoo number of 1J with his ranking in this offering, he has always been a standout among the crowd, combining an awesome phenotype and build, along with the maternal power of the Larkana cow family that stems deep into the roots of the L83 operation. His mother, L83 Larkana 132B has been a potent force in the cowherd, always bringing a standout to the weaning pen, in fact she averages 715 pounds per weaned calf to this point. We predict him to be the promoter of growth and performance, along with adding some muscle shape and width to his offspring.

A direct son of L83 2Strong, the highly anticipated son of KJHT PTO that came from his first calf crop. L83 Josiah 32J is a long sided stud that is ideal in his structural build and reads like he will sire longevity and easy keeping progeny that feed well and if retained, last a long time in the cowherd. His mother has been a blessing to our program, we purchased her from Blairs.Ag and she has left a lasting impact here in Westhope through a terrific set of daughters that are in production, she has been rewarded with a standout 110 DMPPA. A maternal brother to Josiah, L83 Matador 43A is a featured Red Angus addition to the Semex AI lineup.. RED BALIRS MARTA 14X

L83 Jesse 3J is an impressive son of L83 2Strong, raised by a Rohrichs Cutting Edge Ranch purchase. She is a Makin Waves 39X daughter stemming from the legendary Osce cow family that you see deeply rooted in some of Americas most respected and long-standing Red Angus operations. His mother is no miss, and continues to add stars next her name year after year in production. Just like his paternal brothers, 3J is extra complete in his build while adding some extra muscle shape up power up high. MATERNAL BROTHER - HYPE 2H

There is no questioning the maternal power that comes with the addition of L83 JERICHO 2J. His pedigree reads with some of the most trusted females in the history of the L83 Ranch, his 15 year old great grandam is one of the most impressive cows you will see as she still roams the ranch and his 11 year old grandam is still as productive as the day she turned five. If you follow in our opinion that longevity is of the upmost importance then you need to place a star by 2J. Add the fact that his Six Mile Varsity Blues 14Z mother has averaged 765 pounds of weaning weight on her bull progeny and we think he makes an asset to any program. 12

L83 RANCH 46TH ANNUAL PRODUCTION SALE

Josey Wales Sons

14 L83 Jose Quervo 22J has emerged as an outlier of the group further than just at the scale, he has built a strong case as a herd sire prospect that will add pounds, a trait especially important during these times when you are getting paid for them. The cattle market is as bullish as we have seen in a long time, and producers are being paid for the added performance, meaning there hasn’t been a better time to invest in genetics that result in more pay weight. His mother, Red Blairs Nolen 17D is a Power Eye 161X daughter and was purchased from Blairs.Ag of Lanigan, Saskatchewan. This isn’t her first sale highlighting son, last year she raised a Raptor son that sold to Larry Svenningson and has an average weaning weight of 755 pounds on the bull calves she has raised to date.

15 Here is an extra masculine stud that this burly in his body shape, powerful in his rib shape, and massive in his circumference of foot and bone. The sire appeal of L83 Jax 17J is unrivaled, the same term could be used to describe his growth pattern. His mother is a role model type producer out of the heart of the herd, she is the cattleman’s type, being rugged, productive, and stretchy. This is one of the first bulls sired by guest consigners, Millie & Dusty Marthaler, the first born twins of Tony and Rylee, we are excited what the future brings when they start out raising a good one like this the first year!

Josey Wales Sons L83 Jude 28J is a direct son of the Reserve National Champion MCKY Josey Wales 8731 and out of a young but proven producer, Jeanie 849F. She has already added her name to the bull raising list with her first son selling to John Wegner in last year’s bull sale. 28J is one of the leading options to add pay weight in this year’s offering, we think he will also add some muscle expression and power in the first generation.

16 RED SIX MILE CROSBY 325C

At 828 pounds, Julius 31J was the leading weaning weight son of Josey Wales, even though he may be one the youngest of the paternal brothers, he was considerably heavier when they hit the scales come weaning time. He is supported by a younger, but impressive daughter of Six Mile Varsity Blues 14Z that has already recorder herself a 106 DMPPA. He ranks better than the top third of the registry for weaning weight and top 15% for milk.

We love the combination of shape and eye appeal that 4J brings to the equation, he is square in his outline, moderate in his frame and dimensional from every angle. He is the whole package in our mind, stemming from the influence of the legendary, Red Six Mile Sakic 832S through his 11-year-old dam that we purchased from six mile. His addition to the herd sire battery will bring calf crops with an awesome build and look, that will do well even with low inputs and thrive in this region’s tough climates. DAM - LADY ZOLA 213Y

The quality runs deep in these Josey Wales sons, we couldn’t be happier with the kind he is consistently generating, they are big barreled, smooth jointed, moderate framed, easy keeping bulls that weigh heavy and will add shape. L83 Java 21J is exactly that, the promoter of true beef quality, and there is consistency evident through his pedigree, as his mother, Freys Missie 601D raised the L83 Hustle & Flow 11H stud that Gary Nerem purchased last year. 16

We Love 33J because of the extra dimension that he brings to the equation, let alone the degree of rib shape and body curvature he carries so fluidly. He is clean sheathed, dark hided and the ranchman’s deluxe that we think is hard to poke a hole in. A good beef bull that has a structural build that will last him a long breeding career and will generate progeny with added value regardless of sex. L83 Aleia 19A has been a tremendous producer for us. Don’t doubt Lot 23. MARCH 22, 2022 | KIST LIVESTOCK • MANDAN, ND

24 We want to thank the Geyer family for bringing a bull that more than compliments the ideals we have built this sale on. This son of John Wick sets the limits when it comes to rib shape and body shape curvature. He is supported by an awesome PIE Code Red 9058 female and stems from the influence of the Cowgirl family. A bull that will inject more than just good looks, come weaning time you will wish you had a herd sire battery full of bulls like Jagger.

29 Truly one of the most exciting herd sires that will go under the hammer on March 22nd, and perhaps that we have ever rasied. L83 Jennings 45J combines the influences of Red T-K Raptor 26E and a Firestorm daughter, BJF Jillian 6024D that we purchased from the Bjorklund family. He sports one of the most impressive growth packages of the offering, genomically he ranks in the top 15% of the breed for weaning weight and top 27% at a year. He also trends for awesome improvements of yield grade, Jennings 45J is a dynamic herd sire prospect and he will be one easily found on sale day because of his impressive phenotype, supported by a pedigree and data set that matches in quality.

raptor sons Going back to one of the most potent cow families in the history of the L83, Marta 14X, 47J has always been toward the front of the pack, what he lacks in days of age he makes up for in scale pressure. In the flesh you will like him even more as he is a heavy muscled, big bodied type, that still motors with ease and has a proud look.

L83 MARTA 129B

31

The maternal pedigree of L83 Jupiter 39J is deeply embedded in the cowherd of L83, his maternal grandam, L83 Renee 723 needs no introduction to followers of the program. She has injected as many herd bulls into seedstock operations and daughters back into our herd as any female we have, in fact she appears in the pedigrees of lots 1 and 13. Use 39J to gain maternal power, dark pigment, show stopping eye appeal and structural integrity.

A Raptor son that goes back to the maternal influence of Badlands Troubadour 47Y, he came with moderate birthweight and exploded towards weaning, a trend we expect he will pass along via his service.

33 Whilst L83 Uncle Jesse 53J might be one of the youngest in the offering, he has matured into a burly stud that leaves nothing to imagination when it comes to comparing for body shape and dimension. His dam, Diamond P Delta C602 is a direct daughter of the maternal legend Beiber CL Rollin Deep A202 and at 6 years old has a DMPPA of 106. He registered a yearling weight just shy of 1400 pounds, and his EPD tabulations predict above average grow trends as well.

L83 Jailbreak 49J is the natural born son of the 10-year-old proven generator of the right kind, L83 Stacey 295Z. She would also be the grandmother of the growth standout, L83 Jumbo 46J that sells as lot 37. If you are looking to inject some added longevity, and plan to retain the female progeny, 49J will be one to place a star by. L83 STACEY 295Z

L83 Jefferson 37J showed a curve bending growth pattern after his moderate 73 pound actual birthweight. He flipped to 1269 at a year, and continues to impress with added maturity. Maternally he stems back to the legendary Soo Line Momentum cow that was a monumental force in those respective programs. He will add both muscle and maternal in one package. RED SOO LINE JULIA 9136

A heavier muscled son of Raptor that is wide in his pin set and expressive in his hind quarter. He sports a balanced EPD profile across the board, and like every bull in the offering comes with the maternal support of a female that has been a trusted supplier of quality Red Angus genetics. The lone son of our past high selling L83 Gone West 25G, 55J is a bigger outlined, longer sided and high growth bull that will add length and scale to his progeny. His growth traits highlight his balanced EPD profile, and we predict his progeny to weigh heavy come weaning time, and continue to impress as they continue on through the supply chain.

L83 GONE WEST 25G

L83 Jacks Jam 30J offers an outcross option to any other bull in the offering, we recently purchased his mother from Wasem Red Angus. He is the soft bodied type that screams maternal to us, we love the way he motors around the pen, with good foot shape and flexibility. We have big plans for his mother down the road, and we think the daughters of 30J will be the keeping kind.

The Red Angus Feeder Calf Certification Program is the first step in differentiating your cattle to buyers, feedlots and packers.

How to Enroll in FCCP and AA 1. The producer contacts the Red Angus Association of America at (940) 226-4762 and answers a short supplier enrollment questionnaire over the phone. RAAA staff will ask general management, animal identification and breeding questions. If needed, the producer may be asked to supply additional documentation on breeding such as semen receipt, lease agreements or information on purchased females. 2. After all documentation is recorded, staff will ship the tags directly to the producer who must tag the calves before they leave the ranch of origin – birth, branding, preconditioning, weaning or before loading on the semi. 3. The producer will receive a customer enrollment agreement to fill out and return to RAAA with a copy of their calving records. 4. Staff will issue the USDAapproved Certificate of Compliance upon receiving the customer enrollment agreement and calving record.

Experience industry-leading return on investment for just the cost of an ear tag – with no enrollment fees. The Red Angus Association of America Marketing Team offers assistance to Red Angus bull customers at no charge.

The Tradition

Some folks just don’t get it. They think owning cattle makes no sense. It takes too much time, too much equipment, not to mention the expense. But the fondest memories of my life -they might think sound funnywere made possible by Mom and Dad, ‘cause they spent the time and spend the money. You see, the most important lessons helping values grow so strong, come from loving cattle and passing the tradition on. -Don Bishop-
