A note from Dale and Michelle Hello and a big welcome to the first newsletter for the new Ryman Brandon Park Retirement Village. If we haven’t met you yet, we are Dale Singleton and Michelle Shaw, your sales advisors for this village. Michelle has been with Ryman for almost three years, working as executive assistant to Debbie McClure, who is the group sales and community relations manager. Michelle was bit by the sales bug and is looking forward to new adventures in her sales role. She grew up locally in Wheelers Hill and feels a strong connection to the area. Michelle and her husband, Steve, have two children, Megan and Benjamin, who are in primary school. Michelle is a member of the Glen Waverley Rotary Club and loves meeting people in the community, the new residents and their families. She is looking forward to the village being up and running. Dale joined Ryman in 2013 when we started selling our Weary Dunlop Retirement Village. He was thrilled to be part of the villages success and is happy to
now be sales advisor at the new Brandon Park village. Dale lives close by the village with his wife Kerrie and two children, Lachlan and Chloe, who are both in high school. Dale says engaging with the residents is what makes the job so enjoyable. We are excited to meet you and show you around our two-bedroom show apartment. Our independent apartments are selling now, and proving popular with over 45 apartments already spoken for. We’d love for you to visit us soon for a cuppa and a chat at our new sales office at 6 Brandon Park Drive, Wheelers Hill. We look forward to meeting you, showing you the plans for the village and telling you more about the Ryman difference. Kind regards,

Public presentations impress More than 250 prospective residents for our new village packed the Glen Waverley Bowls Club in July. They gathered to hear directly from CEO Gordon McLeod and Group Sales and Community Relations Manager Debbie McClure. Gordy described both meetings as ‘excellent’ and said the thing that stood out was how differently Ryman was perceived compared to many other retirement operators in Australia. There was particular interest in our peace of mind guarantees with many saying our terms were fair and easy to understand. The fixed weekly fees were a favourite and the fact that we also offer low care, high care and specialist dementia care on site.

Brandon Park build is booming It’s been a busy few months for the team at our new Brandon Park site. Ryman Regional Construction Manager for Victoria, Martyn Osborn, has been overseeing a range of works to secure and set up the site ready for the serious work to start. This included putting up temporary fencing around the 5.6ha site and installing the site offices. The construction team are hard at work and Martyn has recently filled two key roles, appointing Project Manager Travis Cocks and Site Safety Advisor Martin Myszka in June. The sales team is firmly established in their new sales office with prospective residents able to enjoy a view of the site from the driveway. There is also a show apartment to give future residents a really good idea of what they will move in to. A striking development was the arrival of a 200-ton crane.
“At first it will have 60m of boom,” Marty said. “Initially it will be a mobile crane which moves around the site but later in the build we will put a luffing boom on which will give it more reach.” The removal of the top soil is now complete and we have started the excavation work for the basement areas of buildings 1 and 2. A big plus was the fact that the site is relatively flat, with only a slight grade affecting the basement with a split level. Marty is optimistic about the team’s progress so far as excavation has started. “I’m really looking forward to getting it moving along and putting some structures up,” he said. The team look forward to welcoming the first residents in July next year!

Introducing Max & Heather Hello there, our names are Max and Heather Beattie. We have been married for nearly 60 years and have four children, eight grandchildren and, as of June this year, one great-granddaughter. Max says: I was born in Benalla, Victoria to parents who owned a farm in the district of Goorambat. Not being a likely farmer, I moved to Melbourne in 1949 after a schoolteacher put me forward for a scholarship to study accountancy at the Taxation Office. I went on to spend 40 years in tax, in a number of positions, until I retired in 1989. Some highlights of my working life included being tasked to plan for the introduction of decimal currency in 1966 and later to help pilot the office into the brave new digital world of automatic data and computer processing. Later, I helped establish branch tax offices in Dandenong and Albury/ Wodonga, setting them up for autonomous status with their own Deputy Commissioner. Heather says: I’m a born and bred Melbourne girl. I lived in Malvern and went to Park Street and Spring Road schools before progressing to MacRobertson Girls School. My working life was spent doing
various jobs in the office of shirt and pyjama manufacturer Pelaco before becoming a stay-at-home mum as the children grew up. During that time I became heavily involved with different school committees, helping in their canteens, and volunteering for meals on wheels. I am a very keen gardener and enjoy spending my time tending the pot plants and pruning the shrubs. Max adds: Since retiring I have enjoyed playing golf at the Rossdale Golf Club and more recently, bowls at the Mount Waverley Bowling Club. My accounting skills have been put to good use, first as Bar Treasurer then Executive Treasurer for a number of years, and resulted in me being rewarded with Life Membership, an accolade of which I am very proud. We currently live in the house we had built in Mount Waverley and have lived in since returning from our honeymoon in 1958. We heard about Ryman through its friendly interaction with the Mount Waverley Bowling Club and, when downsizing beckoned, we decided the Brandon Park village was the way to go. We’re both looking forward to taking up residence there next year and joining with others to enjoy the next phase of our lives.
