HYDRAULIC OILS For most machines, there are a lot of options when it comes to lubricant selection. But just because a machine will run with a particular product doesn’t mean that product is optimal for the application. Most lubricant misapplication does not lead to sudden and catastrophic failure; but misapplication does shorten the average lifetime of the lubricated components, resulting in undesired extra costs and equipment downtime in the long run. With hydraulics, there are two primary considerations: the viscosity grade and the hydraulic oil type (AW or R&O). These specifications are typically determined by the type of hydraulic pump which is used in the system, the operating temperature and the system’s operating pressure. Selecting the best product for your system requires that you collect and utilize all available information. Hydraulic fluid has many roles in the smooth operation of a well-balanced system. Their roles, apart from power transmission, include lubrication, heat-transfer, sealing, rust protection and many more. The chemical composition of a hydraulic fluid can take many forms when selecting it for specific applications. This can range from full synthetic (to handle drastic temperature and pressure swings) to water-based fluids (used in applications where there is a risk of fire).

COMPRESSORS OILS

COMPRESSOR OILS Compressors are manufactured in several types and for different purposes. Many compressors serve as blowers. But they can also be used as vacuum pumps and for the compression of gasses. Lubrication requirements vary considerably, depending not only on the sort of compressor but also on the gas that is being compressed. Air and gas compressors are essentially the same, looking from a mechanical point of view. The effect that gasses have on the lubricant and the compressor components compared to air form the difference between the gas and air compressors. The lubricant plays an important task in preventing wear, sealing, minimizing reactions with the gas, and preventing corrosion. Refrigeration and air conditioning compressors require special attention because of the recirculation of the refrigerant and mixing of the lubricant with that refrigerant. When compressor oil specifications are followed, long life and optimal performance can be expected from any type of compressor, whether it is a reciprocating, rotary screw or a centrifugal unit. A well lubricated compressor has no problem to withstand high pressure and heavy loads without having the internal parts show abnormal wear or become overheated. Still, while it takes the right lubrication to make a compressor run smoothly and reliably, it also makes a good compressor to get the job done reliably for years on end. All Rymax compressor oils have the following characteristics:

Besides mineral compressor oils, we offer different synthetic versions: Polyalphaolefin (PAO), Polyalkylene glycol (PAG) and esters (diester and polyolester). Although across the compressor industry, synthetic fluids have been endorsed by the majority of manufacturers, there are exceptions to the rule. For example,

appear, the recommended alternative to synthetics are mineral fluids, which have the advantage of being less expensive — but they need to be changed more often, having a maximum operating life of roughly 1,000 hours. PAG’s offer the power to dissolve sludge and deposits, burn without leaving residues when degraded, have low solubility with hydrocarbons, and to offer good hydrolytic stability. But besides the advantages, there are also some downsides to PAG’s. For example, their poor compatibility with PAO and mineral oils, and the tendency to absorb water. What makes esters very good in dissolving sludge and deposits is their high detergency and solvency. Furthermore, esters are easily combined with mineral and PAO oils, and most gasket and seal materials. A disadvantage is that they are hydrolytically unstable at high temperatures and absorb moisture from the air. If you are looking for a product that is compatible with seals and gasket materials, has very good hydrolytic stability, poor solvency and low water solubility, PAO’s are the best solution. Their similarity to minerals makes them compatible. But because of the poor solvency, they need to be avoided in applications where high discharge temperatures are present because they might form deposits in these situations. The benefits of using a synthetic compressor oil are:

In remote areas and in relatively small power plants, many diesel or Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO) powered engines can be found. The engines are like the ones used in ships which explains the need for marine oils, even though the power generation engines are stationed on land. These engines are of considerable size, heavy, robust and durable. Suitable to burn quite a range of fuels, even the ones with a high sulfur content. Sulfur turns into acid when combustion takes place which is of great danger to the condition and lifespan of the engine. To prevent the formation of too much acid, the chosen lubricant plays a vital role in protecting the engine. The lubricant uses its Total Base Number (TBN) to do so. The higher the TBN number in the engine oil, the longer the oil will be able to hold off the acid attack coming from the combusted fuel. The higher the sulfurcontent of the fuel is, the higher a Total Base Number is required. Because these engines are normally in continuous operation there is less need to add complicated additive packages to create a multi-grade lubricant or to create suitability for high temperature fluctuations. Therefore, our range of high TBN diesel engine oils is build up with a high-quality monograde oil and an API CF meeting core additive package.

Gas engines used for generating electricity are available in many different forms and sizes. We know the so-called gas turbines, which are in theory derivatives from the well proven aviation jet engines generating shaft power up to several ten thousands of brake horsepower (bhp). On the other side of the spectrum we see the small reciprocating engines which are normally modified automotive or industrial piston engines. Where natural gas is easily available this is an ideal method. But also other gases like bio gas, sewage gas and landfill gas play an important role. As it are primarily the corrosive and agressive gases that can be present there like H2S, Chlorines and many others, that require lubricating oils with sufficient acid neutralizing properties (TBN), while on the other hand the quantity of ash-forming components of the oil are normally well defined by the engine manufacturer based on the specific appetite of their engines in relation to valve recession, the lubrication of gas engines is a delicate process. But because the grease and lubrication points are hard to reach, longevity is an important, if not the most important parameter. Because of the costly maintenance, we only recommend the very best gear and grease products Rymax has to offer. In a windmill, wind propels the blades high up in the air. Via the main shaft, the energy flows through the gearbox before being guided via a high-speed shaft into the generator where the energy is converted into power. The gear box faces the high forces of the wind that is captured by the blades. The blades can be as big as 107 meters. Our Rymax Gevitro TWS PAO ISO VG-320 is a PAO based gear oil, developed for extended drain intervals up to once every 8 to 12 months and perfectly suitable for lubricating the gearbox systems of the biggest windmills. Next to the lubrication of the gearbox, a windmill needs to be provided with sufficient grease. For this, Rymax offers a state-of-the-art Polyurea grease called Polydax 2. This product is unlike any other grease as it does not consist of a base oil with a soap structure but combines all the features in one structure. There is no oil separation, it can withstand very high temperatures while maintaining its pumpability at very low temperatures. An efficient, reliable and impactful way of power generation is through the use of water. To date, around 3.500 hydropower dams are being planned or built around the world. Hydropower is power derived from the energy of falling or fast running water. This renewable source of energy is seen as a means for economic development without adding substantial amounts of carbon to the atmosphere. Energy for different purposes can be generated through different systems, varying from small watermills to large hydro dams like the Three Gorges Dam in China with a generating capacity of 22.500 megawatts. Most hydroelectric power comes from the potential energy of dammed water driving a water turbine and a generator. INDUSTRIAL GEARS When you need to select the best lubricant for your industrial gear application, various factors must be taken into account other than just consulting your user manual. We will explain the most important ones. Viscosity Selecting the right viscosity for your application is not always as easy as it might seem. The ‘user manual’ may be missing, or your machine might operate outside the conditions for which the OEM’s recommendations were made. To decide on the best suitable viscosity, one needs to know what methods are available for this selection. But besides the right viscosity grade, the most suitable type of base stock must be chosen. Although there are some variations, gear lubricants can be divided into three categories: anti-scuff, R&O and compounded oils. The gear lubricant type that fits a certain application best will be determined by the operating conditions. R&O Gear Lubricants Rust and Oxidation (R&O) inhibited gear lubricants do not contain anti-scuff additives or lubricity agents. R&O gear oils generally perform well when there is a need for chemical stability, demulsibility, corrosion prevention and foam suppression. If your industrial gears operate at high speed, under low loads and with uniform loading (no shocks), R&O gear lubricants are the best choice as they are especially developed to excel under these conditions. Antiscuff (Extreme Pressure) Gear Lubricants Anti-scuff gear lubricants, also referred to as Extreme Pressure (EP) lubricants, have some performance capabilities that exceed those for R&O oils. In addition to the properties mentioned for R&O lubricants,

Anti-wear additives will provide protection when boundary lubrication is the most common condition, in less severe applications. Contrary to R&O lubricants, the anti-scuff gear lubricants are optimized to function at low speed, under heavy loads. Shock loading is not a problem for these kinds of lubricants. In addition to sulfur phosphorous and zinc dialkyl dithiophosphate (ZDDP) anti-wear additives, some other solid materials can also be labelled as anti-scuff additives, including graphite, borates and molybdenum-disulfide (moly). Compounded Gear Lubricants The third common type of gear lubricant is called compounded gear lubricant. To extend its lubricity capability and film strength, a compounded lubricant is generally mixed with an artificial carboxylic acid (also referred to as ‘fat’). The worm-gear is one of the most common applications for this gear lubricant. Base Oil High quality mineral base oils typically have higher pressure-viscosity coefficients than common synthetics. This is why they perform well in most applications: their higher film thickness can be found in many operating viscosities. In certain situations however, synthetic base oils are preferred over mineral oils. If your oil needs to operate at high temperatures and longer service intervals are desired, the higher resistance to oxidation and thermal degradation makes synthetic base stocks the better option. Furthermore, the high viscosity and low pour points of synthetic base stock makes them more suitable for operation at low ambient temperatures. A significant benefit of this characteristic of synthetic oil is that it eliminates the need for seasonal oil changes, next to its capability to offer greater lubricity to reduce friction on sliding surfaces.

LIMITED PERFORMANCE WARRANTY Rymax Lubricants guarantees that all engine oil products will meet or exceed the performance needs of diesel engines. Regardless of operating hours or covered distance, Rymax Lubricants will take financial responsibility for any damages in parts and labor to your machine’s engine, caused by oil failure as long as:

Analysis is done on the concerning oil based on a sample taken from the engine. The oil used is confirmed to be an unadulterated and non-contaminated Rymax Lubricants original product. The Rymax oil meets the engine manufacturer’s specifications for the service and application. The engine is used under normal operating conditions and maintained according to the manufacturer’s recommendation.

To ensure usage of our Warranty Service report the product failure to an authorized Rymax Lubricants distributor. To make a claim under this warranty it is necessary to provide the following as part of the technical investigation:

• Records showing that the engine was serviced according to the OEM’s recommendations. • Deliver the used Rymax engine oil, along with detailed information of machine and fluid hours, dates, and an oil sample for the failed engine for analysis to determine if the oil is defective.

• Make the failed engine available for investigation if necessary. Rymax Lubricants does not accept liability for indirect or consequential damages. Your rights and remedies pertaining to this warranty are limited as set forth herein.
