ARCHITECTURAL PORTFOLIO SELECTED WORKS 2011 - 2016

Portuguese Kitchen The pressures bearing on contemporary food production are driven by environmental, social and economic factors. This study pays attention to producers’ and processors’ priorities and also to aspects of consumer behaviour. The choice of this topic is driven by the growing interest for added value products, such as special local, organic and health products.

The Portuguese Kitchen will provide three different functions within local food production processes: (1) Providing co-op land for (2) workshop produce (oil, jam, cheese, wine, cork) and (3) a wine club. The programme also provides specialised education and social wine events where members or guests can enjoy the local wine culture.

ALLOTMENT

FOOD WORKSHOP

The collage shows the convent within its site context highlighting the relationship between the building and the surrounding lands, which have been integrated with the convent’s contemporary proposal. The new design provides a new circulation between the contemporary proposal and the existing land use, which is enhancing the experience of the surrounding area.

WINE CLUB

The outer courtyard of the convent gets transformed into a weekly market and event space providing a space for regular social interaction for the peoples of Evora along with attracting more tourists.

Three design development sketches show: The food workshop is a space housing expressions of rich contemporary and Portuguese gastronomic culture. The space is designed to favor encounters, interactions and relationships, making the experience a more meaningful one.

Perspective section showing the proposal functions. The new design aims to add a new layer to the historical value of the existing construction. The new intervention aims to provide a scheme that connects the interior and exterior of the building.
