the Clips Description The initial analysis of this project began with a chanced upon object, a lawn sprinkler. The hand drawings of the lawn sprinkler created a pattern that was then transformed into 3-D spaces via the ralationship between surfaces and structure.

Site Analysis The project site is located adjacent from the heart of San Francisco and sits between pier 53 and pier 70 where an old pier used to be. This particular site would face a building with an opening that would allow wind to blow through its center horizontally out towards the sea. The curves and bends of the exterior walls suggest the element of “wind”.

infinite Description This project was an assignment for a class on building system and code. In order to fully understand basic building system and code, we designed a full scale movable block on wheels that had walls, floors, ceilings, and windows. We built each section separately in teams of three, and then we incorporated our designs with the design models of other teams. This assignment took place in a wood shop to assemble the pieces together to create an infinite line that included a total of nine parts.

the Box Description

1

To fulfill the requirements for a construction class, we built an interlocking wooden block. Its overall dimensions were 3”x 6”x 9” and had three equal pieces that interlock without falling apart. My idea for this project was to stain the exterior a dark walnut color which gave it a rough look in contrast to the bright cherry stain on the inside. The diagram was drawn to compliment the key piece that separates the three pieces.

boxes Aggregate - Packaging Boxes As boxes usually are considered as cont ainers of objects, I decided to take on a different aspect and use boxes to encase light. Shadows are cast from the inside out and the same folding routine is used to give the piece rhythm.

Aggregation Each box is folded by connecting four boxes together to hold each other’s connection to the wall. As a secondary layer, lighting and wiring is placed within each of the boxes, which can occasionally be seen from the gaps.

GROUP PROJECT

The goal for this project was to complete a set of construction document for a retail store for Getty Images. Their request was that we design separate spaces for conducting in person services for their customers. The spaces should include an office, retail, printing service area, viewing area, and archive. The concept was derived from the word “photograph with the idea of creating a network throughout the building. We used flowing geometric curves and squares as a medium to enhance the concept.
