Golf Tip:
The Correct Leverage Position. by Gregg Upton, Player Manager / Golf Specialist www.sagolfinstitute.com PGA qualified golf instructor who runs the diploma in professional golf training accredited by the PGA for the Southern African Golf Institute based at the River Club in Cape Town.
The correct leverage position: To generate power in the golf swing and to be able to hit the ball further, you need to have leverage, i.e. you need to hinge your wrists fully and to fold your right elbow correctly. In this picture you will see an angle being formed (90 degrees or more) between the left forearm and the club shaft as a result of my right elbow folding and pointing more downward towards the ground, which will allow my wrists to hinge fully and create this leverage. By creating this leverage you will be able to generate much more club head speed which will translate into hitting the ball further, with more consistency.
The incorrect leverage position: In this pic you can see that the right elbow (for right handed players) has stayed straight which makes it difficult for the writs to hinge fully. This means that there will be less of an angle being created between the left forearm and club shaft. If there is not enough folding of the right arm and cocking of the wrists, there is a distinct lack of leverage available in the swing. That is going to result in a severe power leak and inconsistent ball striking.
The drill for creating better leverage: To ensure that your wrists hinge fully and your right elbow (for right handed players) folds correctly, try the split hand grip by keeping your left hand where you normally place it on the grip and then slide your right hand further down the shaft. This will help you have better leverage by setting your wrists correctly so that they hinge fully and your right elbow folds and points more downwards. The simple act of splitting the hands on the grip leads to an automatic hinging and folding action, excellent for learning the feel of what this should feel like in the real swing. --oo0oo—

The Blue Train has added trips to Durban in September and November this year. Hanlie Kotze, Executive Manager of The Blue Train, said the introduction of the Durban route followed clients’ requests.
