OUTSTANDING FOUNDATION

PHILANTHROPIST

ARIZONA ELKS ASSOCIATION

The Arizona Elks Association is our State’s arm of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. There are currently 43 Lodges and 30,000 members in the State. They have demonstrated the benevolent nature of the order in Arizona for more than 125 years.

They are committed to Youth, supporting Veterans, and Community Service. The agenda for children include - scholarship programs, an annual hoop shoot, and many backpack programs providing school supplies and food for children to name a few. The first week in May is Youth Week in every Lodge. The Arizona Elks Major Project has raised more than $10 million in support of the University of Arizona Steele Children’s Research Center and another million to build and support the Arizona Elk’s Jack Warter Youth Camp. A wilderness camp where youth groups can use the facilities at no charge. There are High School graduation events, essay contests and a soccer shoot. They support local youth organizations, and recently started a program to give kids in hospitals and clinics a chance to pick out a gift for their mothers for Mother’s Day or Christmas. They gave out more than 1,500 pieces of jewelry last year. The Arizona Elks are active sponsors of Special Olympics.

The support for Veterans is never ending. They support needs in VA hospitals, host veterans for monthly meals, and raise awareness of the sacrifices made by these courageous Americans. Each Lodge has annual Flag Day, Veterans Day, and Patriot’s Day (Sep 11) ceremonies. Elks take Veterans on outings of all sorts and are active in the Honor Flight Program. The numbers of necessary items collected and distributed is staggering, including new socks, t-shirts, hygiene items, as well as cards, games, and treats. Many lodges provide meeting spaces for Veterans groups and all fly the POW/MIA Flag.

Additionally each lodge has access to grants and awards for the specific needs of their local communities. They hold blood drives, provide leather therapy where vets make gloves for people bound to wheel chairs, social welfare that takes kids on school shopping sprees, and provide drug awareness info to schools. As an organization that recognizes benevolence on many levels, they are proud and humbled to earn this recognition and grateful to the Association of Fund Raising Professionals.
