WELCOME

SCOTT MATLICK, CFRE

In January 2023, Scott (he/him) will celebrate working ten years as a fundraiser, and is proud to have spent each of those years with Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern Arizona. There is nothing more important to him than family, and it’s a privilege to be able to keep them together during times of crisis at RMHC.

Having found this rewarding career almost by accident (by way of a previous calling in music education), he is working to serve the nonprofit and AFP communities by promoting an understanding and appreciation for professional fundraising. He is thankful for the opportunity to support his fellow fund raising executives’ work as they find outlets for compassion and generosity, creating change in Southern Arizona. Scott has two creative children who he is very proud of and is madly in love with his wife, Annie.

KELLY HUBER

Kelly Huber has almost 20 years of experience in the nonprofit sector working in all aspects from executive leadership, fundraising/development, and programmatic capacities. She has served the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona for the past 9 years as both the former head of the Community Investment Department and most recently the philanthropy department as the Vice President for Philanthropy. Some of her favorite work since starting at CFSA in 2013 surrounds building funder collaboratives, supporting donors, and creating community partnerships. Every day, she feels lucky to learn about the passions and interests of donors in our community and then build a plan to support their philanthropy now and forever. She earned a BA in Spanish, BS in Environmental Science, and MS in Nonprofit Organizational Management. Personally, as a native Tucson and the mother of two boys, her favorite Eegee’s flavor-of-the-month is Lucky Lime.

NATIONAL PHILANTHROPY DAY CO-CHAIRS

LANA BALDWIN, CFRE

Lana Baldwin, CFRE is a Consultant with Alexander|Carrillo Consulting and an experienced nonprofit administrator and fundraising professional with a 20+ year career in the Tucson community. Before joining Alexander|Carrillo Consulting in 2022, Lana served in a variety of nonprofit roles, including over 15 years in executive leadership with Pima Council on Aging and Our Family Services. For several years, she also worked as a consultant, assisting a wide range of organizations in reaching their fundraising goals.

Lana serves on the board of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Southern Arizona Chapter, and as Co-Chair of its National Philanthropy Day committee in 2021 and 2022. She received the Outstanding Fundraising Executive award from AFP in 2020. In her work and life, she is deeply committed to the pursuit of equity and inclusion. She enjoys running, reading, traveling, and games with friends. A native Arizonan originally from Prescott, she came to Tucson to study at the University of Arizona, fell in love with the community, and nearly thirty years later continues to make it her home with her wife Kimberly Ahmadi, a marriage and family therapist, their son Mazen, daughter Zamora, and her husband Nick.

ELIZABETH SLATER, CFRE

Elizabeth Slater (she/her) is a youth advocate living in Tucson, Arizona. She currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer for Youth On Their Own, a nonprofit organization that supports the high school graduation and continued success of teens experiencing homelessness. Over the past two decades, Elizabeth has worked with youth in professional and volunteer capacities that have included education coach, health advocate, and safe housing proponent. Elizabeth completed a decade of service with AmeriCorps, developing and evaluating dropout prevention programs in urban public schools. She is also a Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) and has secured over $900M in funding for education programs and health services for low-income youth and families.

OUTSTANDING YOUTH IN PHILANTHROPY

LILY MESSING

Lily Messing is a junior at The Gregory School in Tucson, Arizona. She founded 100+ Teens Who Care, a philanthropic giving circle of over 180 teens from high schools throughout Southern Arizona.

Passionate about making a difference in her community, Lily believes that high school students are not too young to create meaningful change. This conviction led her to start 100+ Teens Who Care and is the driving force behind her push to grow the organization. As a result of the nonprofit’s success in Tucson, Lily is working on expanding the organization by developing satellite chapters across the United States and abroad.

Lily’s hard work has not gone unnoticed: Grapevine and Philanthropy Together have recruited Lily to be a philanthropic coach and help youth across the world start teen giving circles. All of her endeavors further her core goal to ignite the next generation of philanthropists to give back to their communities.

Outside of the nonprofit she founded, Lily has taken leadership positions in several areas at The Gregory School. She is the president of multiple clubs – Junior State of America, Junior Classical League, and French Club – as well as the Managing Editor of her school newspaper, The Gregorian Chant. Lily is also an accomplished tennis player and captains the girls’ varsity tennis team.

OUTSTANDING FOUNDATION

PHILANTHROPIST

LGBTQ+ ALLIANCE FUND AT CFSA

The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender & Queer (LGBTQ+) Alliance Fund, an initiative of the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona, was founded in 1999. The Fund was established to expand funding opportunities and resources for local LGBTQ+ programs and organizations in Tucson and rural southern Arizona (Pima, Cochise and Santa Cruz counties) and to create linkages with straight allies. The fund addresses the chronic underfunding of LGBTQ programs through philanthropy and endowment building.

To date, the LGBTQ+ Alliance Fund has awarded 219 grants to 75 nonprofits, totaling $1,131,957. In 2022, the Fund awarded $103,000 to 12 grantees – the largest annual investment in its 23-year history – and also announced a multi-year funding commitment to current and future grantees. Grants have supported diverse programs, including Habitat for Humanity’s Rainbow Build, Planned Parenthood’s Teen Advisory Group, Bisbee Pride Celebration, Tucson International Jewish Film Festival, KXCI Out Loud!, LGBT Behavioral Health Coalition’s Let’s Get Better Together Conference, Project Visibility, Amig@s de Mariposa, and an Annual Sex and Scholarship Symposium organized by the University of Arizona’s Committee on Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual Studies.

The LGBTQ+ Alliance Fund is powered by donations from the community. To learn more, please visit AllianceFund.org.

OUTSTANDING PHILANTHROPISTS

VICKI AND BRANDT HAZEN

Vicki and Brandt Hazen have been happily married for the past 23 years. They have three children (William, Chloe and Charlie). They enjoy raising their family in Tucson because of its close knit community that provides the opportunity to instill strong values in our children. They also enjoy traveling with their family and friends.

Vicki is a homemaker who has raised three children and has been heavily involved in the family’s day-to-day lives. Brandt owns, leases, and manages commercial real estate in Tucson. Both Vicki and Brandt truly love real estate as it affords them the opportunity to design and maintain beautiful properties for people to enjoy.

Vicki and Brandt have both been very fortunate in their careers and have spent a large part of the past two decades finding ways to give back to the community. They view it as a responsibility and have always been advocates for Tucson and the beautiful community of Southern Arizona. Vicki and Brandt gain tremendous satisfaction from volunteering in the community.

Vicki takes a very hands on approach to her volunteerism. She enjoys spending time getting to know all of the people involved in each charitable organization as well as hosting fundraisers. She has been instrumental in the Hazen family’s success – in their business, fundraising, and development of their children.

Brandt is a member of the Tucson Conquistadores, SALC, and the Tucson Airport Authority. He is also Chairman of the Board of Intermountain Centers, a 50-year-old behavioral health nonprofit headquartered in Tucson, the second largest nonprofit in Southern Arizona.

Vicki and Brandt are both passionate about education and helping children in need in Tucson and Southern Arizona.
