Sonam Kapoor gives love advice and says that women should not be afraid to end relationships. The actress who speaks her mind and was reportedly dating director Punit Malhotra has been seen opening up about relationships and how one should break-up if someone or something is no longer making you happy. Talk about girl power and standing firm in what you believe in, it takes a tough woman to be able to stand on her own and make certain sacrifices to enable her own happiness some may call it selfish, I call it admirable! Celebrated the world over for her natural beauty, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has also won recognition for her acting prowess, with films such as Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Choker Bali to name a few. With accolades to her credit and Hollywood calling, this year, Rai Bachchan made her 13th appearance on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival and took to the stage at the ‘Sound of Change’ concert with husband Abhishek before a global audience of 1 billion to raise awareness of the rights of women and girls. With an ever-growing global profile the former Miss World is all set to conquer the world. Despite all her national and international commitments, she sure knows her priorities. She is the perfect “bahu” of the Bachchan family, a doting wife to Abhishek and a loving and caring mom to Aradhya. In fact like every year, it’s lovely to see her walk into the hotel lobby at Cannes with her daughter Aaradhya and her mother.

It’s amazing to see three generations of Rai ladies at Cannes?

define it in a linear way, it started with Devdas here at Cannes.

matic answer than that, but I’m not the person to create one.”

“I have brought Aaradhya here with me every year. It’s important, so that after a whole day of work, you get to snuggle at night. In the past three-and-a-half years, I haven’t left her alone even for a single night.”

It was the first time that the world’s media recognised my work as an Indian actor, received it very, very positively, and I was very thankful for the grace and the appreciation because if you look at Devdas it is a beautiful movie. It is very operatic in its visualisation. It exists in a particular world of our cinema and to still see that celebrated the way it was globally by this varied audience, whether it was from a critiquing perspective or the international audience here in Cannes, it was very overwhelming.”

After all the accomplishments and accolades, how has motherhood changed your outlook and your professional aspirations?

The movie Jazbaa does not emphasize on your beauty or glamour? “Yes, it does not focus on beauty or glamour but focusses on a woman who is desperate. The reason I agreed for Sanjya Gupta’s directorial venture was the Subject, yes, that’s a reason I was very, very happy to choose this film — for its Subject.” People have already started putting a label on Jazbaa as your comeback film? “I am not blind to not see the expectations or all the announcements about the ‘comeback’. Six months down the road, that’s exactly the way the film is going to be spoken about. My attitude is that I am not focusing on the term. That does not mean I am compelling the rest of you to turn your back to it and you won’t. It’s still going to be announced, spoken about, and remembered with all these adages attached. So I am not stupid about it.” You have always had very clear choices, as in you do not give in to anybody’s demands? “My choices have been a reflection of who I am. When I chose to do Iruvar (her 1997 film debut with director Mani Ratnam), it was not the conventional launchpad to announce, I can sing, I can dance, I can look glamorous. I chose to do Iruvar to say, “look I am happy to work with a filmmaker I respect. I am working on a film which is not all about me.” I was kind of breaking away from convention in my choice. That has always been true with alot of my choices down my career. If there was a Devdas (2002), instead of doing the next big thing, I did Chokher Bali (2003) followed by Raincoat (2004). If it was English cinema, I’d choose Bride and Prejudice (2004). If it’s movies after marriage, I still did a Sarkar Raj (2008) and then Robot (2010). You got to mix it all up and I am kind of trying to speak my own little story to my viewer and my audience. Just go out there and enjoy your craft and do what you love to do.” You are the first commercial star of Indian cinema to really be recognised on a mainstream global platform. How hard or easy has it been for you to win that recognition in Hollywood when it was a world that seemed so inaccessible for Indians outside of the stereotypes? “In terms of finding that first international recognition of my work, coming back to Cannes is such a milestone in my life because it began actually with Devdas. Coincidentally it was the same year that Gurinder [Chadha] was already talking to me about possibly collaborating and it just so happened that Bride and Prejudice came after my experience here at Cannes. So if I look at it myopically, they were all probably happening simultaneously at Cannes, and I guess that was the way my life was meant to chart its course, but from a documentary perspective, if you

There are very differing sensibilities in Hollywood regarding on-screen kissing and exposure, and you have steered clear of such. Do Indian actresses have to comply with Western standards to be accepted in lead roles in Hollywood? “Firstly, let’s show respect to our own cinema. It is recognised internationally. One in six people on this planet is an Indian. Secondly, if you have done a couple of English projects they have found their audience. When it comes to saying no, it was my comfort as an Indian girl about the kind of roles I’d assay on screen, and that’s not something I’ve done only in English cinema. Even in Indian cinema, there is so much work that I have accepted because I’m comfortable and so much I have declined because I haven’t been comfortable. I think people have to acknowledge that basic truth rather than think risqué roles only exist in English films. Risqué roles even exist in India, and I didn’t make those choices either.”

“Strangely nothing makes me feel tired, fatigued at all. I’ve gone days and nights without sleep, and still the mind is in such a positive space it just doesn’t make you feel fatigued. You don’t feel it, and for that just thinking you’ve discovered yet another facet to life. In terms of perspective to my career, that will not change because it’s about who you are as a person. I’ve always been the kind of person that if I take on anything professionally it means commitment to me, so you take it on if you can commit to it and if you know you can accommodate and give your best to it, and that’s what you do and I have always done that throughout my life - before marriage after marriage, before motherhood, after motherhood. So that’s just the way I am and this is just who I am always going to be, irrespective of whatever experience I am blessed with or challenged by in life.” Any signs, that Aaradhya has inherited the Bachchan acting gene? (Laughs) “That’s precious! Right now she is growing up and it’s just fascinating to see her do tiny little new things every single day. We consider that as acting. That’s an original. And she’s an original.” What does the cinema of India mean to you? “It’s very precious. I have been an admirer of Indian cinema, I have been an audience of our cinema and I consider myself blessed to have been part of our cinema.”

Your red carpet appearances are an endless focus of media interest. What goes into preparing your

wardrobe for a major event such as Cannes or Royal Ascot? “Scheduling it’s the truth. I think this answer will be boring, but it’s the absolute, actual, honest truth. It’s scheduling first to begin with, because it depends on how much time you have in your schedule to dedicate when you come in, and that’s a basic truth. Depending on the time that you have, you’re able to look at designer outfits, you’re able to schedule in fittings and then, depending on what fits, of course by then, you’ve chosen a couple of options that you’re comfortable with and what you like, and then whatever fits on the day you go with. It’s as simple and basic and honest as that. I guess people would like a much more dra-

Who is the greatest star of Hindi cinema? “Oh. It’s difficult, and I’d be accused of bias, but worldwide currently Pa [Amitabh Bachchan] is absolutely iconic, he’s celebrated, and he’s respected. He definitely is deservedly iconic, and I say this without any bias, and if I am accused of it so be it.”

Ganesh Chaturthi Ganesh Chaturthi is, inarguably, the most revered festival in Maharashtra, and is celebrated with grandeur. This festival is held in honour of Lord Ganesha, who is worshiped for 10 days. Like everyone living in the city, film stars, too, have fond memories of the festival. While some actors have been celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi since they moved to Mumbai, a few have grown up visiting various pandals across Mumbai. Bollywood stars inform us what the festival means to them, as they also share their fondest memories associated with it.

MISS EARTH FEATURE

SA’s Next Earth Warrior Announced

P

retoria based psychology graduate and community worker, Carla Viktor has been announced as Miss Earth South Africa 2015. The dynamic 24-year-old was announced by Minister of Tourism, Mr Derek Hanekom at an auspicious gathering hosted by Tsogo Sun; the official home of Miss Earth South Africa. Carla captured the attention of her community, schools across South Africa and the judges, with her focus and passion embedded in the principle of Ubuntu. Carla stated; ‘Climate Change is, unfortunately, one of the greatest challenges of our time and we shouldn’t be afraid to break barriers, ask the tough questions and start difficult conversations.’ Carla grew up in Hartebeespoort in the Madibeng Municipality and her passion for this community has been evident on her journey as a finalist as she engaged many of the surrounding schools over a period of six months. Her projects took her to Odi Primary, Ennis Thabong Primary and Meerhof to name but a few. Finalists were tasked with several projects, campaigns and programmes that had to be executed. This allowed the young women to touch the lives of thousands of children and community members. Co-ordinated efforts and initiatives focussed on education, awareness and messaging around climate change, food security, waste management, responsible tourism, greening, environmental impact, water stewardship, sustainability, energy, conservation and the illegal wildlife trade. After months of learning, engagement, project implementation and growth the 2015 Miss Earth South Africa finalists embarked on a journey that has challenged them, developed them and extended the very comfort zone that they live within. This newly appointed ambassador says; ‘I’ve heard the call and I am hungry to learn, to gain invaluable skills, knowledge and connections. My goal is to ultimately make an impact that is tangible and sustainable through leading by example, not just for my time as Miss Earth South Africa, but in any area or platform as I move forward with this being the greatest part of my journey.’ Viktor is joined in the top four places by first runner up; Johannesburg born Jade Axon a 23 years old, currently a Brand Building and management student at Vega School of Brand Leadership. Second runner up is Welkom born Andricia Hinckemann, an LLB student at the University of the Free State followed by fourth runner up, Centurion beauty Milanie Cilliers, a BCom student at North-West University. Page 24

With an ever changing landscape of development and growth it is critical that youth and women are part of the critical agenda on sustainability, climate change and the responsibility each of us carries to build and empower our country. Thursday 10, September has seen the announcement of the 13th Ambassador of this highly acclaimed South African leadership programme; The Miss Earth South Africa. The underlying theme of this year’s campaign is to connect with the needs and responsibilities we have to the Earth, and all its offerings. The Miss Earth South Africa leadership programme has allowed the organization not only to connect with communities across South Africa, but individuals who strive to be exceptional in their disciplines and live in the pursuit to combat the effects of climate change and an ever changing world in the 21st Century. Climate Change has become an international concern, connecting human beings from across the planet behind one goal that will serve generations to come. International Climate Activist and Executive Director of the Miss Earth South Africa Catherine Constantinides said; “We ‘Salute’ each and every young ambassador that has taken up the challenge and has been a part of this extraordinary programme and by so doing has touched lives and impacted communities and those most vulnerable to the effects of climate change.” This initiative has taken its ambassadors across the world, connecting like-minded people through travel, association and communication via the avenues of greening our continent, sustainable development, waste management, renewable energies, water stewardship and the green industry.

Parco Bags, African Organics, leading South African designers, gifts from Tan Organic, Zoya, Crystal Forum and Jenni Gault Jewellery Design. Camelot International taking care of all her beauty needs. Earth ProBiotics, Fry’s vegetarian, Jojo Tanks, Carbon Track, Eco-Monkey Recycling will equip her for a greener lifestyle in her day-to-day living, while SWEAT1000 an intense exercise experience that has taken the country by storm, will keep the ambassadors fit and strong enough to tackle their exciting journey ahead along with gorgeous apparel from Lorna Jane. Skywise, powered by Motlekar Holdings will support her domestic travel. Samsonite will ensure that she travels in style both locally and internationally as they take care of her luggage needs. Cathay Pacific will continue to partner on projects and greening work across the year of her reign alongside other strategic partners such as Newsclip Media Monitoring. Miss Earth South Africa 2015 will travel to the 15th International Miss Earth competition on the 5th December in Vienna, Austria, where she will highlight key climate issues facing South Africa. As well as adding her voice to the biggest Climate negotiations to date, COP21 in Paris from the 30th November.

“Through the Miss Earth SA programme, we actively drive sustainable policy development from municipal level through to National government. We inspire people to look at environmental issues through new eyes, understanding that each individual has a role to play. Our programme strives to breed a culture of respect and mutual passion for the environment that we live in. Aligning with Tsogo Sun is a natural progression in achieving this goal, with the complimentary programme’s creating a partnership that ensures compound efficacy and growth. It is this collaboration that makes Miss Earth SA proud to call Tsogo Sun home,” concludes Catherine Constantinides, Executive Director of Miss Earth South Africa. SA’s green girl drives away with a Hybrid vehicle, compliments of IMPERIAL Toyota, for the year of her reign. She will receive prizes from Healing Earth, David Green Eyewear,

Why Alia Bhatt was uncomfortable in a bikini? Alia Bhatt, who will be seen in Shaandaar opposite Shahid Kapoor, felt uncomfortable while shooting for a bikini sequence due to extreme temperatures. Alia Bhatt will be seen donning a bright pink bikini in her upcoming film Shaandaar. While, a bikini is no big deal for the young actress, she confessed that she wasn’t comfortable in this attire. When quizzed about the same, she said, “At that moment, I wasn’t comfortable because it was very cold. But I was very happy.” Talking more about the bikini shot, Shahid revealed that it was -2 degrees centigrade when Alia wore that bikini. “The beach that they chose looked like any beach in India and everybody was freezing. I was wearing a ganji and pants and was barefoot. So, I can actually imagine what happened.” Alia further said that though it was freezing, once she faces the camera nothing can stop her. She elaborated that they not just shot in the -2 degrees centigrade but also swam in -5 degrees and spent two days there. Making fun of the director Vikas Bahl, Alia said, “Vikas was not at all feeling cold and was fine under the warm covers. He was wearing muffler, jackets, socks and everything.” While the two had a tough time shooting for the bikini sequence under extreme temperature, we wish them good luck for the success of their film.

Aryan turns AbRam’s world upside down!

Big B wants to write about his father

Shah Rukh Khan posted this adorable picture on a micro-blogging site where Aryan and AbRam has indulged in some brotherly love

Amitabh Bachchan says there is a strong desire in him to focus his energy on writing to the world about his father and late poet Harivanshrai Bachchan’s literary works. The star, who has made a special place in the world of showbiz in his over four decade career, noted that he will embark on the mission someday. The 72-year-old cine icon seems to have immersed himself in the work of a website dedicated to his father’s legacy and his works.

The fact that Shah Rukh Khan is obsessed with his children can be made out from the various pictures he posts on social networking sites. On the one hand where Shah Rukh is definitely the King of Bollywood, it seems that when it comes to social networking sites, his kids are more popular than him. Whenever SRK has posted his children’s pictures especially that of AbRam, it has become a rage. The history repeated itself again when Shah Rukh posted the above adorable picture where Aryan Khan SRK’s elder son is seen having fun with his brother AbRam. Shah Rukh posted this picture and stated, ‘Sometimes you have two let life turn u upside down, so u can learn how to live, rite side up. Or Big Brother is always there. (sic)’

The Piku star experienced a pull towards penning his thoughts while going through his father’s work. “I languish in lethargy these days... in the seeking of aloofness and the wealth and admiration of each letter written by my dear and loved father...of lamentation at his absence to teach educate and to explain his words in the context of his living. “There is a desire to resign from life itself to dedicate whatever is left in the reading and writing to the rest of the world what his writing meant! It will someday…it will,” Big B posted on his official blog.

Indeed Shah Rukh’s quote has a deep meaning where it can be clearly seen that the actor knows that whenever AbRam will be in a difficult situation like an elder brother Aryan would be there for the little toddler.

Harivanshrai, who died in 2003, is credited with works like Madhushala and Agneepath. The Paa actor is often seen reciting Harivanshrai’s poetry as well and has called him a unique genius on several occasions.

Sonam Kapoor says break-ups are liberating!

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has topped a list of the most attractive personalities, leaving behind the likes of Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan.

Sonam Kapoor gives love advices; says women should not be afraid to break-up. “I Hate Luv Stories” actress Sonam Kapoor has, in a quirky online video, opened up about relationships, urging women who are scared to break-up, to just go ahead and do it. She says she’s glad she did it herself.

The Bajrangi Bhaijaan star is India’s “Most Attractive Personality”, according to a 16-city survey conducted by TRA (formerly Trust Research Advisory), a Omniscient Group company which has diversified interests in communication, media and brand analytics.

The actress, who speaks her mind and was earlier reportedly dating director Punit Malhotra, tweeted a link to the video. She is seen opening up about relationships and how one should break-up if someone or something isn’t making you happy. “Break-ups are so liberating... The first one was easy. We were young, stupid and immature... Basically, what I am saying is that if you’re in a really messy relationship, break it up.”

The company conducted a report based on what it called a 36 Trait Matrix to measure brand attractiveness. Following Salman in the attractiveness quotient are Amitabh, 72, and Shah Rukh, 49. Actress Deepika Padukone came fourth in the list dethroning Katrina Kaif, who was at the top among females when the list previously was published. Following Deepika in this year’s list are Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Rahul Dravid, Ranbir Kapoor, Hema Malini, Sachin Tendulkar, Aamir Khan and Virat Kohli.

The video ends on a cliffhanger, which reads; “Watch Sonam Kapoor spill the beans on her break-ups”. The actress, meanwhile, said, “I’m always in favour of letting go of the bad things in one’s life; whether it’s relationships or bad habits. Why should anyone have to deal with things that make them unhappy? We all deserve better in our life.”

In total, 11 personalities from cinema and sports are included in the report. “While we often see attractiveness only in terms of physical beauty, it is much more. It is certainly not skin deep. True attractiveness is based on four foundations that are based on appeals of Rational, Emotional, Aspirational and Communication,” N. Chandramouli, CEO, TRA, said in a statement.

Arjun Kapoor completely endorses the idea of a house husband Actor Arjun Kapoor, who plays the role of a house husband in Ki and Ka, opposite Kareena Kapoor Khan, said that he completely endorses the idea of a husband supporting his ambitious wife. “There is nothing wrong being a house husband and I do believe there is something right about it. When you see the film, you will realise why I feel so. I think society has to accept the choices younger generation make. They have their own reasons and understandings”. The R Balki-directed film deals with the nuances of a relationship between a househusband and his ambitious wife. Arjun, 30, who is currently shooting for the film in the capital, said the city plays an important role in the unique love story. “The film is based in Delhi. So, it’s an important aspect. It will be unique and quirky in typical Balki-style. It’s today’s love story. The premise and the philosophy of the film are very relatable. The film is not just about the song, dance and fun,” said the actor, who has shot the film in Hauz Khas, India Gate and Purana Qila. The Tevar star feels romance is one

Is Bipasha dating Karan Singh Grover? There is no sign of Bipasha Basu on the big screen after her last outing, ‘Alone’, earlier this year. Bips was supposed to be a part of designer Vikram Phadnis’s directorial debut, but things did not work out. So, she has been left alone with co-star and good friend Karan Singh Grover. Bipasha Basu and her affection towards Karan recently spilled over to the Internet with Bips tweeting: “True friend is someone who reaches for your hand and touches your heart. Thank you, KSG.” So, is this a hint that things are finally getting serious between them?

such genre in Bollywood which has been re-invented frequently with time and Bobby, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Jab We Met are the best examples of this changing phase. “Romance has always been a very important genre and it has been reinvented in subtle ways over the period of time. But a lot of people have followed that wave and so it feels repetitive. There have been enough changes that have happened,” he added. In Ki and Ka, Arjun has also shared screen space with Balki’s lucky charm Amitabh Bachchan and his wife Jaya Bachchan. The actor-couple will make a special appearance in the film that hit theatres next year. (Also Read: Arjun Kapoor ‘Beat’ Abhishek to Film with Senior Bachchans) “Every actor dreams of sharing screen space with Amitji or Jayaji. I am very lucky that I shared screen space with both of them. I have grown up in front of them. So, for me to be professional and face the camera in the front of them was a bit tough,” said Arjun, who is the son of producer Boney Kapoor. The actor, who took a while to sign his next project after his last release Tevar got a lukewarm response, said he is happy that he took a small break to figure out the kind of films he wants to do. When Balki approached him with an especially written role, Arjun felt lucky: “Balki sir is a very unique director. He has got unique ideas. He’s the perfect director to bring us (Kareena and I) in a relationship-driven film, which allows us an actor to come across as believable on-screen couple. It’s not a frivolous masala film. He has written the roles for her and me.”

Actor Suniel Shetty said that he would love to be referred to as Athiya Shetty’s father Athiya and Sooraj Pancholi made their debut in Bollywood with Hero, which was co-produced by Salman Khan. When Suniel was asked whether he preferred being called by his own name or as Athiya’s father, he said: “Athiya Shetty’s father. That’s what every parent wishes - to be known by their children’s name.” Suniel also said that Athiya is a natural actor. He is happy that she is “extremely confident, she’s looking good, and that she has acted well”. “That is the biggest compliment for a father. I wish that she’ll do good work so that she continues to receive good work. Several critics have panned her film but there has been immense praise for Sooraj and Athiya,” said Suniel. The Dhadkan actor also said that although box office collections matter, but people should have realistic expectations from a movie which features newcomers. (Also Read: Here’s How Athiya, Sooraj’s Hero Fared in Its First Weekend) “This is a Salman Khan production and not a Salman Khan starrer. People are expecting Rs 200 crore to Rs 300 crore, but they are just kids. I think they’ll manage to earn around Rs.50 crore,” said Suniel. Suniel also advised his daughter; “I told Athiya that there would be several critics who have an agenda of saying bad things about the kids and the film. This criticism would give you further strength to be stronger for the next. Consider this criticism as a lesson and think about how you can work on it and implement the suggestions,” said Suniel. “And I am glad as that’s what Athiya’s been doing,” he added.

Sidharth calls Fawad ‘masla’! Guess how Sidharth Malhotra has saved Fawad Khan’s name on his phone? Well, he has saved it as ‘masla’, which means ‘problem’ in Urdu. Fawad uses the term very often. Sidharth, who was unaware of the word before he met Fawad, found it very amusing. Every time Fawad spoke about a dilemma he’d refer to it as masla much to Sidharth’s amusement. What’s funny is that the two went to see Bajrangi Bhaijaan together. And Sidharth’s evening was made when Nawazzuddin Siddiqui’s character uttered the word masla in the film. He even whistled loudly much to Fawad’s amusement.

Sussanne Khan to marry Hrithik’s close friend? Sussanne Khan, who recently ended her 13-year long marriage with actor Hrithik Roshan, is apparently all set to marry his closest friend. And irony of the matter is that the close friend is alledgedly the one who was the reason behind their separation! Hrithik Roshan and Sussanne Khan married in the year 2000 and separated in 2014 with mutual consent. Speculations were also rife after their separation that Arjun Rampal and wife Mehr, who were also close to the couple, would be getting separated. However, Meher and Arjun dismissed rumours of their divorce earlier this year. In a recent music video launch, Hrithik Roshan said that he is single and the actor is now being allegedly linked to Queen star Kangana Ranaut.

After Wesley Snipes expressed his desire to work with Bollywood Baadshah Shah Rukh Khan, he reached out to the Hollywood star by asking him to say the time and place and he will be there to share the screen space. Responding to the American actor-producer-martial artist Wesley Snipes’ desire to work with Bollywood Baadshah Shah Rukh Khan, the Hindi film superstar has reached out to the Hollywood star by asking him to say the time and place and he will be there to share the screen space. In an interaction with an Indian publication, Snipes, who is popular for his role of vampire hunter superhero, Blade, had talked about his love for Bollywood films and his wish to share screen space with Shah Rukh, who has dominated the Hindi silver screen for over two decades. SRK, 49, then took to Twitter to confess that he is a fan of Snipes. “@ wesleytsnipes whenever you say my friend. I am a fan... say the time and place I will be there to share screen space with the Blade,” Shah Rukh tweeted. Meanwhile, Snipes is gearing up for his act as Mr. Johnson, a mysterious pit boss, in NBC’s thrilling drama The Player, which will air in the US and in India simultaneously. It will be aired in the US on September 24, and in India on September 25 on a reputed channel.

I have got into random processions even after becoming an actor. Vaibhavi calls me ‘visarjan specialist’,” Ranveer said. Ranveer and Deepika got delayed in reaching the venue. They apologised to the audience, as Ranveer said in a cheerful mood: “I was told that people have been waiting since 9 am for us. But Deepika is so beautiful I would wait a lifetime for her.” (Also Read: Agent Deepika’s Rainy Bajirao Mastani Adventure. Of Bajirao Mastani box office clash with Shah Rukh Khan’s Dilwale, Ranveer and Deepika said they are not disturbed. The Piku actress said: “I don’t understand the business perspective. I think there is a place for both films. Our job is to work just as an actor not to get into all this.” Ranveer’s comment was shorter and crisp: “I am an actor and can understand only acting. Can’t say anything on clash”. Bajirao Mastani narrates the story of Maratha general Peshwa Bajirao I, and his second wife Mastani, played by the Ranveer and Deepika. OMG! But he’s proud of it! The Namastey London actor took to Twitter, where he shared a photograph of himself and his wife sitting in a book store. In the image, Akshay is seen sitting on a sofa and his wife Twinkle is seen signing a copy of her bestseller for a fan.

Actor Saif Ali Khan said his in no hurry to have children with actress-wife Kareena Kapoor “I am in no rush to become a father... whenever she is ready (for it),” Kareena had recently said in an interview that she wants to become a mother but not in the next two to three years. Saif has two children, Sara and Ibrahim from his former wife actress Amrita Singh. Kareena, who married Saif in October 2012, is having a good run at the box office with the success of her latest release “Bajrangi Bhaijaan”. The “Phantom” actor said Kareena has managed to strike a fine balance between the blockbusters and small-budget films with meaty roles. “I think it is important for her to balance with huge blockbuster films where she has nice small roles and with smaller budget films that are about her. She is doing that balance really well. I am happy to see that,” he said.

“Ignored by a fan who wanted an autograph of @mrsfunnybones...happens when your wife is a bestselling author! #proud,” Akshay tweeted on Monday. Sharing the same image, Twinkle quipped: “Where the big star happily looks on at the little one that twinkles - sorry reposted couldn’t resist the poor pun :)” Twinkle had launched her book on August 18th at an event. The duo, who got married in 2001, are proud parents of two children, Aarav and Nitara. Akshay, meanwhile, will next be seen in Singh Is Bliing, which also features Kay Kay Menon and Lara Dutta. Sonakshi: I won’t marry an actor! Sonakshi Sinha feels actors are complicated; says she needs someone simple and uncomplicated. Actress Sonakshi Sinha has been linked up with Arjun Kapoor in the past when she was working with the actor in Tevar. However, the actors had clarified that there is no base to such rumours. Speaking on all her Bollywood link-up rumours, Sonakshi Sinha says that she will not marry an actor. She said, “Two young actors who are single and working together. People can’t digest that fact. The Arjun rumour came from doing a film together. And he is my neighbour. He lives behind my house.” Elaborating further, the Dabangg girl added, “Actors are complicated. I am not complicated. I am a misfit, which is why I cannot see myself settling down with an actor, or being with an actor. I want somebody simple, someone who is uncomplicated.”

Saif said he also likes to watch Kareena in romantic roles like the one she played in 2007 release “Jab We Met”. While Kareena bonds well with Saif’s kids Ibrahim and Sara and has been often seen hanging out with them, the actor said he too shares a good rapport with Kareena’s sister Karishma and mother Babita. “I don’t think we would have got married if I wouldn’t have had a great relationship with them. I am fond of her (Babita). She is an honest and down to earth person. I share a good relation with Karishma as well,” he said. The 45-year-old actor also revealed that his mother-in-law likes his romantic comedies like “Love Aaj Kal” and “Cocktail”. Saif said both his children are free to pursue their Bollywood dreams but only after completing studies. “I think they both want to join films. Sara is doing well in studies but she has to complete her education first, then Ibrahim. I want them to have a degree (first) and after that they can do whatever they want,” he said.

arun Tahiliani’s “Easy Glamour” collection was an eclectic line of the perfect préta-porter offering presented by Reliance Trends at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2015. The ramp was covered with graphics of “India Modern” visuals, which is the inspiration for most of Tarun’s designs. A full length mirror on stage and a rack with clothes as the backdrop, a very stylish video featuring model and Bollywood actress Lisa Haydon modelling Tarun’s collection. International model Ujjwala Raut opened the show with a looped black will-powered midi, which was followed by a great mix of black creations with occasional bursts of colour. Printed dolman sleeve top, sleek sheath, poncho draped skirt and tabs held in place flowing printed scarves on tunics, while patterned gilets added style to shorts.

VARANASI

Going for easier silhouettes that featured a SoHo style, capes, capelets, jumpsuits and saris were the focal interest. Tarun’s women’s wear line had intriguing construction and exotic prints with a marked Russian influence of vibrant stripes and the tribal gypsy elements were contemporised with leheriya prints. The black and white striped cascading top and the asymmetric kurta with leggings, will-power corset dress, the black dhoti sari and choli brought a great fusion story. A maroon jumpsuit with embroidered printed belt and lungi dress were interesting diversions. There was a profusion of carpet weaves and dramatic borders in shining shades of rust, olive and blue. The kaftans, tunics and shift dresses created easy, relaxed dressing options. The jumpsuit-sari, an innovation by Tarun, had the pleats and draped dupatta, which was a great concept to step into and zip up. Peplum quilted gilets in winter shades of steel grey and black were ideal for cooler climes. Satin draped lungi cowl gowns, saris with velvet obe belts and printed Tees with satin dhotis, were great in construction and style. The kedia style blouses with skirts, woven embroidered pencil skirt, attached cape to blouses and the mini kaftan with a skirt added variety to the collection. For formal wear Tarun picked a rich colour format of yellow, emerald, rust, teal and aubergine, which were just right for festivities. Velvet hemlines added sophistication to body-con saris; while 3D floral visions looked fabulous on kalidaar jackets. Mughal motifs were splashed lavishly on the creations, but black and gold had silk embroidery with golden flecks that moved to darker tones for ultimate drama. Bringing a glamorous end to the show was the lovely Chitrangada Singh in a black draped gown and velvet cape splashed with gold embellishments.

TRAVEL

The Paradise of India

Kashmir Vaishno Devi Temple

House Boat People have written zillions of words to best describe the beauty of Jammu & Kashmir; however the truth is that the power of words can never comprehend the mysticism that this state possesses. This northern-most state of India has been endowed with nature’s best and that is why it has been an object of interest for many travel enthusiasts. Today many honeymoon couples visit Jammu & Kashmir to seek a perfect romantic getaway. A land of anomalies, Kashmir is most definitely a paradise on earth with its snow-capped mountains and scenic landscape. Despite the politically-induced territorial division, Kashmir sees a healthy influx of tourists from all over the world. With an eclectic mix of tourist attractions comprising of beautiful gardens, lakes, valleys, and much more, Kashmir remain one of the most celebrated tourist spots in the world – and as Led Zeppelin quotes- it still remains the Shangri-la for most Kashmiris. Srinagar… Redefines Beauty The capital city Srinagar is the prized possession of the Vale of Kashmir. Imbibing many colours of the state, it reflects the authentic Jammu & Kashmir. The city sits quietly on the bank of Jhelum and contemplates the vivaciousness. The canopied Shikara boats, plush houseboats, snow-capped mountains and the sparkling water of Dal and Nageen Lake come together to bring the picture of authentic Srinagar come alive. The blessing of Prophet Mohammad from Hazratbal Shrine and Jama Masjid, the divinity of Shankarcharya temple, glimpse of floating vegetable market and the bountiful flora and fauna, all honour the capital city with a title of Paradise on Earth. Srinagar also renders great options for activities like bird watching (Dachigam Wildlife Sanctuary) water skiing (Dal Lake, Nagin Lake and Bod-dal),

golfing (Kashmir Golf Course), trekking (towards Pir Panjal, 89 km from Srinagar) and boating (Shikara ride on Dal Lake and Nagin Lake) and thus makes holidays in Jammu & Kashmir a successful expedition. When to go: June through October, December & January for snow. Our two cents: Stay in a houseboat to get the true Srinagar experience. Evening Shikhara rides are very romantic. Jammu City… A Blessed Land Protected and blessed by Mata Vaishno Devi, who seems to have found her earthly abode on the Trikuta Hills, Jammu City is indeed amongst the top places to visit in Jammu & Kashmir. Dubbed as the City of Temples, Jammu invites those seeking peace and tranquility. The unmatched divinity at Raghunath temple, Ranbireshwar temple, Mahamaya temple, Peer Baba and Peer Khoh touches every corner of Jammu invigorates visitors. One must visit the Bahu temple, which is situated inside the majestic Bahu Fort. The temple is dedicated to presiding deity of Jammu, Goddess Kali or Bawe Wali Mata as she is popularly called in the region. Besides the temple, a travel enthusiast can witness architectural grandeur of Bahu Fort and Mubarak Mandi Palace. The Aquarium at Bagh-e-Bahu (Bahu Fort) also catches the eyes of the tourists as it is the largest underground aquarium in the country. A trip to Jammu is no less than an expedition to a holy land. Gulmarg… Entailing Adventure and Excitement. Meadow of Flowers Dubbed as skiers’ paradise, Gulmarg is indeed amongst the best places to visit in Jammu & Kashmir. Located approximately 52kms away from capital city Srinagar, Meadow of Flowers as it is popularly called Gulmarg is a haven for adventure enthusiasts. Along with prominent skiing options, trekking, snowboarding, golfing, mount biking and fishing are the prime options that Gulmarg overwhelms you with. Visit Kongdori, Shark Fin and Apparwath Peak not only for skiing but also to witness the splendid natural landscape of Gulmarg. Other places to see the blessings of majestic nature near Gulmarg are Nagin Valley (for which you have trek), Khilanmarg, Frozen Lake and Bota Pathri. Baba Reshi and Gulmarg Gondola (Cable car) also makes for a must visit in Gulmarg. Things to see and do: Gondola rides up the mountain, leisure walks through the meadows, and ski-

highway.

When to go: June through October, December & January for snow.

Always take a guide along while trekking in snow. Some sections have very thin ice.

Our two cents:

Pahalgam… Tucking Refreshment and Excitement

It is better to purchase the Gondola (cable car) tickets from Srinagar so that you don’t have to wait in line once you get to Gulmarg. Avoid going to Gulmarg as part of a day trip from Srinagar. One needs to stay there for at least one night. Kupwara… Rightfully the Crown of Kashmir Noted for natural beauty and charm, Kupwara is indeed a vital part of Jammu & Kashmir tourism. The lush meadows, alpine mountains and the gushing clear water make Kupwara an important tourist attraction in the state. Boasting of lofty mountain peaks like Shamsbari (12000ft above sea level), Nastachun (10273ft above sea level) and Dajalonjun (16000ft above sea level), this district exemplifies the beauty of Kashmir. The Ainch Mountain offers the opportunity to get a panoramic view of the Vale of Kashmir from its top. There are also many historical villages that allow the history lovers to contemplate including Gushi (Built by Kashi Shah), Karnah (mentioned in Raj Tarangini written by Kalhana) and Keran. However, the Lolab Valley steals the limelight and Kheer Bhawani Asthapan, Hazrat Mehmood Shah Shrine, Shaloora shrine and many other make for other brilliant option for sightseeing in Kupwara. Sonmarg… The Kingdom of Untainted Beauty. Meadow of Gold Needless to say that without a visit to Sonmarg, a trip to Jammu & Kashmir would be incomplete. Blessed with unmatched landscape, Sonmarg make for an extravagant visual treat. Famed for many excursion options, there is a large number of trek and short routes that lead to places like Gangabal Lake, Kishansar Lake, Vishansar Lake, Naranag, Haramukh Mountain and the famous Baltal and Thajiwas Glacier. Baltal, which is located 15kms away from Sonmarg, is used as the base camp for pious Amarnath Yatra. Sonmarg. Do not miss out on the opportunity to visit Zojila Pass, which is situated near Sonmarg and connects Kashmir and Ladakh. Things to see and do: Thajiwas glacier, leisure walks through the meadows, trekking. When to go: June through October, December & January for snow. Our two cents: Try the local cuisine at the small eateries along the

The green meadows and the lofty mountains are followed with tranquility and serenity in Pahalgam. The beauty of this small exceptional town does by no means can be a disappointment for an ardent nature lover. Blessed with good accommodation option, Pahalgam is indeed one of the best places to visit in Jammu & Kashmir. Expect a lot of greenery, hotels and resorts and lot of beauty surrounding you. Aru Valley, Betaab Valley, Baisaran, Sheshnag and the Tulian Lake excursion can invigorate your senses and activities like horse riding; trekking and golf make sure that you remain engaged all through your journey. Chandanwari, which is located 16kms away from Pahalgam is the base camp for Amarnath Yatra, a trekking route of approximately 30kms lead up to the holy shrine of Amarnath from here. Pahalgam is the most developed region of valley of Kashmir and thus don’t expect it to be quite like other destinations in Kashmir. When to go: June through October, December & January for snow. Our two cents: If you are driving up from Jammu to Srinagar, then Pahalgam is a good place to take a break for a couple of days. Don’t forget your trekking shoes. Pahalgam offers excellent trekking opportunities. Baramullah…Reflecting Perfectly the Beauty of Kashmir Reckoned to be the Gateway of Kashmir, Baramullah is another bright gem from the Kashmir’s treasure trove. Both the city and the district of Baramullah are generously blessed with natural endowments. Gulmarg, Khilanmarg and Tangmarg are also places of interest in Jammu & Kashmir tourism along with being important tourist attractions in the district. Where Gulmarg is an idyllic skiing resort, there Khilanmarg is a flower-spangled wide valley, you will get ample of opportunities to click beautiful pictures here. If in Baramullah, you must also visit Wular Lake, which is considered Asia’s largest fresh water lake and if you enjoy bird watching, you can also visit Manasbal Lake. Vijimarg, Mahalishamarg and Uri are some ideal picnic spots. However, it can rightly be said that a journey to Uri is more interesting rather than the destination.

Kashmir

A jewel of a destination, Kashmir is one of the most amazing holiday destinations in India. Srinagar, the state’s winter capital, is the first stop for most travellers to Kashmir; and with its great lake and meandering river, its exquisite pleasure gardens and romantic shikara rides, the old-world charm of its houseboats and the ageless grace of its architecture, the city is a fitting introduction to the many enchantments of the valley. The vast Dal lake is, of course, Srinagar’s emblematic feature, and its deep waters carry the most popular of Srinagar’s attractions: houseboats and shikaras.

Jammu

Jammu is separated from the Kashmir Valley by the snow-capped Pir Panjal range, is the winter capital Jammu and Kashmir. The land is mostly hilly and mountainous and is part of the Great Himalayas. It marks the transition between the Himalayas in the north and the dusty plains of the Punjab in the south. Jammu City is also known as “City of Temples” as it has many temples and shrines. The Surinsar Lake is a natural attraction here. Places like Patnitop, Sanasar, Krimchi and Kishtwar are adventure spots where one can indulge in adventure activities like, mountaineering, trekking, rafting and nature walks. Jammu is also famo us for its intricate handicrafts.

Ladakh

If there’s a heaven on Earth, then it’s in Kashmir(Ladakh). Bounded by the Karakoram and Himalayan mountains, Ladhak is the largest province in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. The landscape of Ladhak, a high altitude desert, is defined by craggy, barren cliffs and plateaus. Ladhak is a favorite among adventure sports enthusiasts, offering unique adventures in trekking, mountaineering and white water rafting. While rafting options are available on both Indus and Zanskar rivers, the Zanskar course is more difficult and exciting. The trekking options range from short, day-long walks to visit monuments or monastic settlements to long, trans-mountain treks involving weeks of walking and camping in the wilderness.

MUSIC FEATURE

Indipop sensation

From being a child artiste on stage, to becoming a successful TV show host, popular playback singer, Indipop sensation and even an actor, Sonu Nigam has worn many hats in his two-decade-long career in Bollywood. Although his voice isn’t heard in films as much as it used to be, the singer assures us that there’s a lot in the future. In this interview, Nigam talks about some of his upcoming projects and why new singers in the circuit don’t bother him.

Are you getting enough challenges as a singer?

The difference that as a singer, if you just depend on movie songs then you cannot make your own identity as a celebrity.

I don’t think the film industry is able to provide me many opportunities. I have to create my own challenges. There are a lot of opportunities, there are so many young singers and their singing is commendable.

You became a celebrity but you always get the second kind of treatment. Everywhere in the West or everywhere in the world, not just west but in the world, singers and actors and sportsmen are treated the same way. In India there was a practice of only looking down upon the singers because the singers were only part of the background. Now the singers are coming up in the front and that’s a good move.

What do you think of all the singers who have come from Pakistan? A few were good. But most of them were strictly okay. Who wants these voices in a country which has heard Lata Mangeshkar and Mohammed Rafi?

Where do you intend to go as a playback singer? I’m doing too many things at the same time. I love the feeling of being in demand everywhere. I’m not passionate about anything except music. My work is my only high. I do concerts and return to work on my classical album. But I miss the glory of playback singing. I wish we had one good music company that could respect a good artist. Nowadays, it’s more about putting up with singers out of defiance rather than conviction.

What does music mean to you? Music means expertise to me. It gives me lot of pleasure, it gives me lot of happiness but I need to become an expert. That’s why I always keep working at. I never take music lightly. So music for me is an expertise. I need to know everything of music, I need to listen to lots of music, I listen to lots of English music, to lots of Indian classical music and I get a feel of all kind of music. During the flights I just keep skipping channels, so I just get a feel of Japanese music, I get a feel of oriental music, and sometimes you get Irish music on the flight. Music for me is an oral knowledge and expertise. I need to grow myself. That’s what it is for me.

What do you have to say about the Would you call yourself happily current crop of singers? Has your work suffered due to their growing married? popularity? Well I am married. One can be happily married. Marriage is a very small part of life. There’s a lot more to life.

I have been in the industry long enough to not be affected. It’s good to see new people and new voices; they are no threat to me. Movies keep me busy even today.

A.R. Rahman protests against the practice in Bollywood that he has What do you feel about the changes no rights of his creations, that only in Bollywood music in the past two the film producers hold the rights. decades? Do you have the same problems as a singer and what’s your opinion Change is the only constant, whether it’s in music, culture, dance or fashion. Since music is a about that? reflection of our mindset and our culture, it is Yes we have such problems and it is basically not because of injustice, it is because the private music scenario is just coming up. And it was just used for singing for movies and that was fine but singers like us, we want to make our individual recognition and that is why the private music is coming up. And when the singers come up with their own albums, with individual songs, not depending on any movie or cinema, then they have their own rights and we are approaching that in time gradually.

You just talked about it that once you only sang for films. Why do you think there is a difference in the treatments between actors and singers? Page 64

bound to change with time. I am glad that India is such a receiving country and is always open to all kinds of music. Our composers, singers and writers are open to experimenting. That is what is happening in Bollywood and that’s how it should be.

You have tried your hand at acting before. Will we see you as an actor again? It will happen if I am convinced about the project in totality. I am no longer that inexperienced boy who had signed three movies which never saw the light of day.
