n a hot Saturday afternoon, students, teachers and parents of SM Sung Siew have converged at the school’s open hall to attend the 1st series of ‘Jobs & You’ roadshow in Sandakan. A total of 200 Form 4 and Form 5 students, plus around 100 adult guests comprising of school teachers and parents attended.
The forum was moderated by Datuk Raymond Tan Shu Kiah, Deputy Chief Minister of Sabah with active participation from three guest speakers, namely Mr. Bacho Pilong, Senior General Manager of Malaysian Petroleum Management (MPM), Mr. Ian Lim, General Manager of Sabah Shell Petroleum and
Datuk Dr. Pang Teck Wai, Chief Executive Officer of POIC Sabah Sdn Bhd. The other attendees were GM of Petronas Sabah & Labuan, Puan Julita Ontol, Assistant Principal, Mr. Ganesan Kumarasamy and former principals of Sung Siew, Mr. Moo Fah Lin and Mr. Yap Pak Sun. The event kicked off at 2.15 pm sharp with Datuk Raymond explaining to the audience the rationale behind holding such an important seminar that was targeted at school
leavers and their parents. He urged secondary school students to refrain
from leaving school to enter the job market available in shopping malls and fast food outlets in the city. and parents to obtain information and to engage with each other and relevant personalities. Prior to the starting of the forum, officers from Petrosains of Petronas conducted a special session with the students to instill more interest and to engage in fun learning subjects related to the petroleum industry. The forum ended at 4.30 pm with a word of thanks from Mr. Henley Liew, Organizing Chairman and a big applause to everyone for their attendance.
PETRONAS ENCOURAGES UNITY AMONGST MALAYSIANS WITH #tanahairku KOTA KINABALU, September 12, 2015 – PETRONAS celebrates Malaysia Day with the launch of #tanahairku – an initiative aimed at promoting and strengthening social cohesion and unity in Malaysia. This initiative included the creation of two wall murals by local Sabahan artists which were revealed during the launch; each artwork showcasing the best of Malaysia, particularly Sabah’s unique cultural heritage. In conjunction with the upcoming Malaysia Day, PETRONAS presents the nation as a melting pot of cultures and traditions highlighting the common values that are shared among Malaysians. “PETRONAS is actively conducting its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives in the areas of education, community wellbeing and environment. With the upcoming celebration of Malaysia Day, we are committed to conduct programmes which are in line with the government’s initiatives in strengthening
the spirit of solidarity, understanding and tolerance among Malaysians,” said PETRONAS General Manager of Internal Communications, Khairuddin Jaafar. “PETRONAS’ #tanahairku campaign serves as a subtle reminder to the younger generation about what makes Malaysia special. We use street art as a medium to reach out and stir conversations because creative expressions have the power to transform people’s behaviors. We hope that these artworks will do just that,” he added. The third edition of #tanahairku covers three states – Sabah, Sarawak and Johor. Through this initiative, a total of 22 street artists have been commissioned to paint 10 selected walls in Kota Kinabalu, Kuching and Johor Bahru. In Kota Kinabalu, the two walls are located at Wisma Sabah on Jalan Haji Saman and Wisma Intiutama on Lorong Dewan. In conjunction with the recent National Day celebration, PETRONAS also released its highly anticipated National and Malaysia Day 2015 web film titled ‘akrab’. Set in 1957, the film tells the story

‘Hornbill, Hibiscus and Harmony’ located at the Handicraft Wall of Jalan Main Bazaar, Sarawak represents the spirit of ‘Agi Idup Agi Ngelaban’ which, loosely translated, means to never give up.
‘Leaping Feline’ on the wall at Ethnic Tribal Cafe at Lebuh Carpenter, depicting the what appears to be a fusion of a domestic cat and the hind of a clouded leopard wearing traditional Iban headgear. The artwork is about moving ahead into a progressive future while the hind leg signifies Sarawak strong identity and roots.
