We thank you! 2
Dear HARC Family and Friends, Welcome to our 27th Annual Auction! Our theme "Denim and Diamonds", was such a hit last year that we brought it back by popular demand! Whether this is your first time at our auction or if you look forward to this event every year, you're in for a special time. Our auction is a celebration of the lives of people with many abilities - to work, play, be with family and friends and create lives for themselves full of joy and fulfillment. At HARC, we believe that every person with a disability deserves to live a life of quality, dignity and inclusion. From helping babies and toddlers reach their potential through our Stepping Stones Birth to Three program to providing meaningful experiences for people with disabilities in retirement in our Life Enrichment program, we know that with the right supports and your help, people with disabilities can live wonderful lives in ways that were thought to be impossible only two generations ago. Through your generosity, our youngest children improve their speech and motor skills. We put people to work at meaningful jobs. We help young adults successfully transition from school to work and community. We advocate on behalf of people with disabilities so that their voice and their importance in our society is always heard. In this world of constant, rapid change, one thing remains the same - our commitment to providing the highest quality services and supports to people with disabilities. On behalf of the Board of Directors and the entire HARC family, welcome! Enjoy tonight's festivities, bid high and often, and know that your gift really does change lives and change minds.

HARC, Inc. was founded in 1951 by parents of children with intellectual disability, long before programs and services were available. We help people with intellectual disability and their families by advocating for their human and civil rights and by providing community-based services throughout their lives.
Programs Offered: Early Intervention Family support Residential services Employment opportunities Respite care Recreation Summer camp Adult day services Elderly enrichment
HARC’s programs have national accreditation and licenses. Though HARC has become a large multi-service organization, it retains a strong sense of family. The Board of Directors consists of committed community leaders including parents, adult siblings and self-advocates.

Today Spencer is thriving. He competes in Special Olympics, and plays basketball, softball, and track and field. He also takes pottery, art and exercise classes and frequents the dances at Elmwood Community Center in West Hartford. While at HARC’s day program, Spencer reads to other participants and participates in actvities including math, writing, nutrition, art and music. One day a week he works at Walmart. Spencer goes to temple with his family, visits his grandmother in New York City, and is frequently visited by his parents and two sisters. Spencer is truly living HARC’s mission - HARC helps people with intellectual disability and their families enjoy lives of quality, inclusion and dignity by providing support, education and advocacy. 5
How You Can Help and get involved: Donate HARC gets partially reimbursed by the State of Connecticut for providing programs and services for individuals with intellectual disability. Funding from the State only goes so far and HARC needs your philanthropic support to improve the lives of our participants and to provide their families with peace of mind knowing that their loved ones will be safe and secure with HARC after they are gone or unable to provide care.
Advocate HARC’s engaging advocacy efforts focus on empowering our participants, families, supporters and staff to contact their legislators and advocate for their needs. Each year, our growing group of motivated self-advocates directly help craft HARC’s legislative agenda and present it to legislators. Last year over 600 emails were sent to legislators through HARC’s Advocacy Center.
6
Participate HARC uses many different forms of media to educate people about intellectual disability and the different programs and services we provide. However, the best way to learn about what we do is to volunteer. Last year, HARC had 390 volunteers including 10 corporations and 12 schools complete 4,000 hours of service! The projects vary, but what volunteers take away from the experience is a personal understanding of people with intellectual disability and the programs they rely on, not to mention they always have a great time!

As we move forward in our efforts to increase dollars raised, our hope is that more of our HARC family will give consideration to joining the 1951 Founders Society. Currently, HARC serves 2,200 clients and families annually, in one or more of our programs. Celebrate this important milestone and recognize the transformational impact HARC has had on
