MANAGING DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE
This issue of Imagineering Magazine demonstrates the many options that AEC professionals have when working with precast concrete components and systems. Whether you are an architect, engineer, owner, developer, general contractor, specifier, construction manager, student or professor, we want these pages to help you visualize how precast concrete can be used in your upcoming construction projects. Today there is much focus on project delivery methods and regardless of what project delivery method is used, whether it’s Accelerated Building/Bridge Construction (ABC), Design-Bid-Build (DBB), Design-Build (DB) or Multi-Prime (MP), CPCQA certified precast concrete producers can play an integral role on your team. The precasters can collaborate with you to help determine which method will best suit your needs by taking into consideration the size of the project, complexity of the project and the delivery schedule. One important element with any construction project is the desire to accelerate the process. Speed to market, reducing construction time, and accelerating realization of revenue are always critical to all clients financial pro forma. When it comes to Accelerated Building/Bridge Construction (ABC), the precast concrete industry has the knowledge and the expertise to bring projects in on time and on budget. To ensure the success of projects, it is always important to involve your precaster in the early stages of project planning, as their expertise in engineering, fabricating and installing precast concrete will assist in overcoming any design and construction challenges. In addition, working with a CPCQA certified producer provides assurance of quality production and performance of precast products and systems, which is crucial not only for successful project outcomes but to also maintain the highest quality standard and commitment to resiliency and public safety.

IMAGINEERING - FALL/WINTER 2020
It is an exciting time for AEC professionals and owners, as well as precast concrete producers. Accelerated Building/Bridge Construction (ABC) with precast concrete elements was once considered a new technology but it is gaining popularity and now has wide general acceptance. This Imagineering issue showcases many successful precast concrete projects like; The Spot at East Village, in Manitoba, an 18-storey mixeduse beautifully clad total precast apartment building, a Walmart Store in Ontario with exterior insulated wall cladding that simulated brick and stucco matched with the new Walmart colour scheme. Also highlighted in this issue is the Trent Durham Residence and Academic Building in Ontario with its varying architectural features that enhance this modern, sleek design and floating catwalk on the second level, cut with angles that continue in the ceiling design. Lastly, this issue features the 427 Highway Expansion in Ontario which had no shortage of obstacles along the way; rivers, creeks, ravines, railways, and other roadways. The project used precast concrete girders, retaining walls, wingwalls, box culverts and reinforced concrete pipe to meet strict timelines, as well as resiliency and durability requirements. Please enjoy this issue of Imagineering.
