MUTATION Fall 2019 Studio I / AUD 121 University of California, Los Angeles Jennifer Meakins Adobe Illustrator & Rhinoceros 3D
An ongoing project that explores the process of mutation through exercise in abastract geometry, three dimensional volume, and interior space. The design focuses on the spatial qualities of an two platonic solids that was mutated through insertion and deletion of points and lines. Using shared points, axis, and rotation, the intersection created a dynamic space that inherit two mutant’s characteristic. Each operation are in relation to the spatial experience on each rooms as while considering circulation, apertures, and lighting. The mutation created a series of ramps, skylights, and openings connecting each space into a cohesive unit.

This project aims at creating a cabinet and tower design based off Mies Van Der Rohe’s Core Houses and it is grounded on the idea of symmetry while exploring methods of representation through models and line drawings.
CORE HOUSE
The points and lines that describe the plans of Mies van der Rohe’s Core House’ projects serve as both inspiration and precise launching pad towards a primitive design. With a fascination in the abstract, 2D organizational arrangements of the cores and grids, each plan is vertically stacked to establish a site that is dissected into quadrants.
Fall 2018 Technology I / AUD 141 University of California, Los Angeles Mohammed Sharif Adobe Illustrator & Rhinoceros 3D
The center quadrant of the Core House stack shall be the foundational premise towards building a cabinet space and a rising tower. The cabinet and tower design are created through rigorous implementations of rotation and elimination of panels while considering solidity and voids between space, symmetry, and consistent element of grid and core.

This is my Architectural Design and Theory final project where I was assigned to operate an architectural intervention on the “Equinox” (highlighted in red; refer to Site Analysis) section of an outdoor entertainment site, Pacific City, Huntington Beach. In this project, I strived to elevate social connectivity that is currently lacking in that area. I chose three words as the basis of my design decisions (GENRE, INTERACTIVE, COLLABORATIVE). To elevate human connectivity, I chose to repurpose the space into a Youtube creative space.I believe Youtube is the perfect media platform for this building because it focuses on collaboration between their content creator and viewers. The building aims to provide space for Youtube creators to connect with their viewers, host an event, and introduce people to the experience and joy of making a video on Youtube. Also, a conducted survey shows the majority of the user are actively using Youtube as their social media platform. Currently, the completely enclosed walls isolate the building from the people outside. Thus, in my design, I chose to provide glass as the major facade to connect outside elements into the internal space of the building and attract them to come inside and experience it for themselves. The shape of the structure is influenced by the original idea of youtube, which comes from the “tube” box. The shape of the tube and slanted roof break the norms of the “box shape” surrounding the area and get people excited. Furthermore, I believe with the direction of glass facade facing the main street helps garner more crowd into the area. As part of enhancing social connectivity and interactive experience, I integrated the use of Augmented Reality into the site program. The section on the sixth page shows the visual reality interface that enhances visitor’s connection with the building. In this case, the visitors will be given varieties of video genres they could experience, and the AR will show them how to utilize each function of the space inside the building.

As part of the Mid-semester project, I conducted a study of Pattern and Form Language by analyzing the Philology Library at Free University Berlin. By my definition, pattern language emphasizes on how human interacts with a physical built form and how well the structures complements human well-being as well as providing a solution to human needs. A form language emphasizes the aesthetics of the architecture, including the styles and materials. Here, I’m analyzing the balance between the form and pattern language. The bad moment in this building is; it does not show a connection between aesthetic and human well being. In this section, the transition between the glass and the concrete walls does not flow entirely; thus natural lights does not spread equally throughout the floor. The intervention would be to change the material of the upper walls and ceiling into opal diffusing glass to provide a smooth transition between the shell and the floor walls.

RESIST Fall 2017 Color Theory / ART 42 Saddleback College Erin O’Shea 8’x20’ on Wood
In a collaboration with OC Greenpeace, this mural serves to inform the public to “Resist” the hive mentality of crude based consumption and return to sustainable system of transportation, agriculture and renewable energy. The mural is a visual representation of the global and local affects of climate change including; endangered animal (honey bee, clapper rail, fox, and mountain lion), climate change (polar bears) and toxic waste (transportation and meat consumption). Our solutions involve; the use of clean energy by utilizing water, wind and sunlight energy, reduce beef consumption which is the number one source of toxic methane, and the corals regrowth that has been affected by toxic waste in the sea. We hope to engage the public to act and make a difference from their daily lives.
In discussing the creative design aspect of this project, we utilized complementary color harmonies and a hexagonal design as a compositional too. The hexagonal patterns reference the decline in local bee colonies and hive mentality of consumption that is both the cause and solution for planetary carbon levels. The color harmony from warm to cool symbolized transition from issues to solutions. The graphics were designed with simplicity to better engage with the audience and get the message clearly across.

Purpose of this project is to understand the visual effects of a specific color combination and explore colors based on hue, saturation, and intensity. Also, I studied colors found on the color wheel: primary color, secondary color, and tertiary color. The first project is Value and Space exploration using black and white color using a graphic object. I demonstrated an understanding of atmospheric perspective. The second project explored saturated value range using only primary and secondary color combination to provide distinct edges and color contrast. The subject is a mythical Indonesian creature, Barong. The third project explored the muted color range using unsaturated colors that are predominantly mixed with white or black. The structure was inspired by a visual mentor that explores futuristic architecture.

This painting represents the development of humans growing through the chaotic world. I was inspired by the one of cultural anthropology subject that discussed the connection between social environment with human development. The first frame demonstrates the pure character of human at their early age. As they dive into the social community, they encounter different challenges, social interactions, and demands that they transfer into a mask. As it progresses to the third frame, each humans transform into a mature and complex individual, as shown by their facial features that are more defined and specific. I was inspired by the traditional Indonesian patterns that symbolizes each individual’s personality.
