MEET THE BOARD 2016-2017 Blue Ranger: Tiffany Aquino Hi, my name is Tiffany Aquino and I am Treasurer! I am a Senior and Captain of the Dashing Debs Varsity Drill team. I also love to sing as I am in the A?Cappella choir and of course love to dance. I go to Saturn Road Church of Christ and really enjoy going on mission trips that I get to go out of the country or city and help kids, families and communities. We help them with any type of aid they need from just giving the kids a ?spa day? or giving their families food for a month. Along the way I have gained experience in many service opportunities that inspired me on having a sort of idea on what I want to major in college. I hope I get accepted to A&M or Blinn Community College and major in social and humanitarian efforts. I enjoy Key Club so much because service is basically my life (and aiming to really make it for the rest of my life). I am so honored to be apart of a great organization and excited on what this year will bring!!

2016-2017 Pink Ranger: Jessica Nguyen Hello, everyone! I?m Jessica Nguyen and I will start off by introducing myself as your secretary for Key Club for the 2016-2017 school year. It was back in my freshman year when I joined Key Club and since then, I have enjoyed every moment that I have spent participating with the club when I volunteered at events. Key Club had not only given me an opportunity to make new friends and help others around me, but it has also made me a better person overall. I had only been a general member of Key Club at the time, but I wanted to contribute more to the club so I ran for secretary. My goal for this year will be to help all of you, the members, by keeping your hours up to date and by giving out information for events that you could volunteer at. I will be available to listen to any questions or concerns and will try my best to fix the problem. I want to ensure that everyone has a great experience from Key Club just like I had ever since I had first joined. I look forward to working with everyone during my term as secretary and I will try my best to help you all during your time spent as a member of Key Club! Let?s work together and make Key Club a place where people can come together as one and work for a good cause!

JUNE'S SERVICE PROJECT: ANIMAL CARE June's service project encompassed the care and service for dogs at our local shelters. Our original goal was to make 100 dog toys that were to be donated to the Garland Shelter. We hosted a Pet Party Social and in the end, we made WAY over 100 dog toys! While volunteering at the shelters and Pawsability, we noticed that a majority of the animals seemed to be underfed. Because of this, we collected donations of pet supplies and a portion of our summer fundraisers will go towards buying specific dog foods to be donated.

July's Service Project : Lake Ray Hubbard If you have ever been on President George Turnpike or crossed lake in Rowlett, you have been over Lake Ray Hubbard. Just last year from a major flood, Lake Ray Hubbard was revived again into a beautiful lake that people said would possibly never be full again. Well as much as there is water, sadly there is trash. Along the sides of the lake is trash and garbage, but we're going to try to change that. To be announced are the dates us Key Clubbers and the City of Rowlett will try to clean up Lake Ray Hubbard and spread awareness of the effects of littering. As Donald Trump always say "Let's make America great again!"
Maybe we'll find it while cleaning

Wh at Is UNICEF? As many of you guys know, we often donate a portion of our profits to great organizations and UNICEF is one of them. But just what exactly is UNICEF? UNICEF is a United Nations Program headquartered in New York City that provides long-term humanitarian and developmental assistance to children and mothers in developing countries. It is one of the members of the United Nations Development Group and its Executive Committee. UNICEF's work is carried out in 192 countries through country programs and National Committees. Some 85 per cent of the organization's posts are located in the field. There are seven regional offices as well as country offices worldwide, a research center in Florence, a supply operation in Copenhagen and offices in Geneva, Tokyo and Brussels. UNICEF headquarters are in New York. Their ultimate goal is to give children a fair chance in life. They believe that when children do not have a fair chance in life, significant inequalities emerge between those who have the most and those who have the least. Those inequalities are passed from generation to generation in a vicious circle that has significant economic, political and social consequences ? leading to an unequal and unfair world. When the most deprived children are not given a fair chance to realize their rights, they fall further behind and equity gaps grow wider. As children age, these initial inequities result in worse health and learning outcomes, lower nutritional status, earlier fertility for adolescent girls, and lower employment rates and earnings as adults. Today, too many children are not receiving the basic nutrition they need to survive and thrive. Under nutrition is one of the greatest killers of children under 5, responsible for nearly half of the deaths for that age group. For those who survive, the consequences of stunting ? an irreversible condition that inhibits the physical and intellectual growth of children ? cast a long shadow across their lives, harming health, school performance and potential future income. Guaranteeing a fair start for every child therefore begins with making sure that mothers have access to quality health care and education. Poor maternal nutrition impairs fetal development and contributes to low birth weight, subsequent stunting and other forms of under nutrition. Millions of children die each year from preventable causes. One of the surest ways to end these unnecessary deaths is through vaccinations. The past 30 years has brought considerable progress in expanding vaccine reach, so that today, more than four out of five children are vaccinated against deadly diseases. But that still leaves millions of children at risk, directly resulting in up to 3 million preventable deaths each year. Together, they are able to make a significant difference in the lives of many all around the world.
