WINGS OF HOPE HOSPITAL DESIGN

MULTI SPECIALITY HOSPITAL DESIGN

Location: Calicut Latitude: 11.264oN Longitude: 75.811oE The site is located at a prominent location in the outskirts of Calicut city. The site have the NH 7 bypass road running through the front. The highspeed bypass road is a lotcation for frequent accidents and therefore it makes complete sense in the selectionof the site. Site area: 3.27 acres Category: Group C FAR: 1.2 Coverage: 4300 m2

7

2015

About the Project The multi-speciality hospital design is a seventh semester academic project. The project was to design a 300 bed hospital with all major and minor departments, advanced facilities also including all the supporting facilities. The site was selected on the outskirts of the city of Calicut infront of the National Highway.

Concept Every patient coming to the hospital are in chains. They seek freedom from this burden. What keeps them holding up is HOPE. The whole design revolve around this concept. Here we provide with an environment that enhance healing through the ways of nature. The wings of hope, are nothing but the hospital and the caregivers who frees the patient out of their chains. Showering on them the light of healing.

Design The design process included various stages like case studies, live documentation, sketching, form development, vertical zoning, 3d visualizing... All of which have played a vital role in the final design development. The concept was continuously influencing the design throughout. The design incorporated green spaces inside and outside the premises.

8

MULTI SPECIALITY HOSPITAL DESIGN

The form development is clearly visible in the design of the building as well as the surroundings. 9

HIGHER SECONDARY SCHOOL DESIGN

The site was connected to two major roads. The school therefore required two entrances which are to be given equal importance. The main entry to the building was placed at a central position.

The ramp was made along the side of the auditorium which then wraps the cilindrical block till it reachess the top.

The circular blocks are offsetted at each floor. The offset is used as a green space were flowering plants are planted.

HIGHER SECONDARY SCHOOL DESIGN

The high school block has been inspired from the large tanks. The floors were offset to get the stepped nature of the tanks. The offsets are utilised for mutual shading between the floors.

The ramp act as a shading device for the offsetted cilindrical block. The ramp runs at a gradual slope of one in fifteen. It hence encourages the students to use bicycles to the school.

The stepped tank inspired form in the interior of the high school block gives the central courtyard a feeling of vast openess.

FIVE STAR HOTEL DESIGN 18

FIVE STAR HOTEL DESIGN

Location: Calicut Latitude: 11.314oN Longitude: 75.731oE The building is to be designed for a site near Mananchira, the lung of the city of Calicut. The hotel faces the beautiful mananchira lake. Site area: 1.7 acres2 Category: Group A2 FAR: 1.9

19

2014

The view towards the lake and the design of an efficient vertical core for the guests and the staffs were the challenges to overcome. The access towards the building is so planned that efficient parking is provided for different user groups.

20

FIVE STAR HOTEL DESIGN

The north facing side has a full glass facade, while the southern side tiltable solar panels were ued as shading devices from the sun.

2015

About the Project The design was made as a part of my workshop at Uravu Bamboo Log. The thirty day long workshop has given us a lot of knowledge about the low cos constuction and the use of sustainable materials. The task was to design a community center for the neighbourhood especially for the women and children. Uravu is a community empowerment NGO which organizes regular workshops for women and children. They had requested four of the interns to bring up two different designs for the community center.

Design The idea was to derive at a design that is site responsible and low cost. The site constituted a large hill and contours. A flat vertical side of the hill was decided to be a wall of the community center. This would significantly reduce the cost of construction. Apart from this a workshop and kitchen was allotted in the bottom floor and a childrens club on top of the workshop. In the end the whole building became an integraal part of the site. The community center would become a space where all age groups of the village could engage in social activity. 22

PUBLIC SPACE TRANSFORMATION COMPETITION

UNIVERSITY OF WESTMINSTER TROPHY 2015

We Indians have a high tolerance to filth. We only care for our own personal space and belongings. We are the root cause for deteriorating our public spaces and yet we blame authorities for not taking appropriate actions. We need to take responsibility for our own actions. If there is one thing that is to be learned from this exercise, it is to stop thinking and to get to work and the rest will follow.

This community intervening project was a challenge that needed us to exhibit our skills in management and presentations before the stake holders. The funds for the project was arranged and the project was completed in 136 hours of sleepless nights.
