Dear Sacred Heart Community, It is with great pride and sincere appreciation that I share with you the Annual Report for Sacred Heart Schools, Atherton, 2014-2015. As a school we strive to provide the highest quality academic and co-curricular programs each year—a goal we are able to meet in large part due to the generous commitment of time, talent, and treasure from our community and volunteers. Within this report, you will find both insight on the success of our fiscal management last year and our grateful acknowledgement of the role you played.

In addition, it is my hope to convey just how instrumental your individual participation has been, and how it has made a measurable difference in the lives of our students.

Introduced in late spring, Vision 2025 and its four central priorities of Intellectual Formation, Character Formation, Community, and Stewardship now serve as the benchmark against which we evaluate our progress. I am pleased to share a few key highlights connected with these priorities, achieved during the 2014-2015 year:

• Character Formation: We solidified a new and distinctive academic program, the Creative Inquiry Lab, which will not only serve as an incubator for student-driven conceptual, material, and entrepreneurial projects, but whose fundamental experience is designed to develop essential traits necessary for success in life and career: perseverance, collaboration, creativity, leadership, among others.

• Community: Ensuring we remain strong in our heritage and as a community of faith, we successfully launched our Family Mass Series, and marked a significant boost in participation and attendance throughout the broad spectrum of co-curricular programs, including new signature events in the fine arts, such as the artists-in-residence concert performances by the Rimsky-Korsakov String Quartet.

• Stewardship: Continuing emphasis on "paying it forward," we made strides to build financial reserves to anticipate, plan for, and ably meet future need in terms of financial aid, programmatic growth, and campus and facility maintenance.

Our efforts as a community ensure our path to success, and we are incredibly blessed by the generosity of spirit that defines this Sacred Heart family. In essence, the annual report is an articulation of the many individuals and organizations who have generously contributed to the support of our school this past year. More than that, it is a tremendous and heart-warming endorsement—echoed in the voices found throughout this issue of students and families, alumni and past parents, faculty and staff—that clearly underscores the high value each of us places on our collective Sacred Heart experience.

• Intellectual Formation: We successfully sustained and expanded a dynamic co-curricular opportunities to complement academic programs, and recruited, hired, and retained outstanding faculty in each school and across every discipline, ensuring our students have a consistently outstanding classroom experience.

Together, we have achieved much on behalf of this institution and for our students, and I remain grateful for your loyal partnership, your dedication, and your continued investment in our future and the mission and legacy of the Religious of the Sacred Heart (RSCJ).

Annual Auction Benefit Engagement. Engagement in the Sacred Heart community is evident in classrooms, on athletic fields, in theaters, in conference rooms, and in every venue across campus—and especially on the evening of the annual auction benefit. The Sacred Heart Schools, Atherton endowment supports scholarships, faculty development, and many other areas critical to the success and financial well-being of the school. Each year the Investment Committee of the Board of Trustees carefully reviews the spending policy and recommends an annual spending rate that is appropriate to meet these needs. This spending rate is applied to all gifts where the donor has not otherwise made a specific spending request. The remaining unspent monies are reinvested for continued growth as a hedge against inflation. The spending rate for 2014-2015 was four percent, based on a three-year average of the endowment’s market value.
