Phil Ryan advisor to the team
In 2009, Phil was honoured again as an inductee to the Hunter Valley Legend Awards for “his 30+ years of outstanding service to the advancement of the Hunter Valley as a wine producing region.” Phil is now Chairman of the Legends sub committee of the Hunter Valley Wine and Tourism Association, whose role is to identify and select future Legend contenders. After 48 years with McWilliam’s, 35 years as Chief Winemaker, Phil retired from Mt Pleasant but not from winemaking. In 2012, following a twenty year association with Saddler’s Creek Wines as a neighbour, friend and advisor to our winemakers, Phil officially joined our team as Consultant Winemaker. With his extensive knowledge of our winemaking style and its’ subtleties, in 2014, we paid homage to Phil’s achievements and launched the Ryan's Reserve Collection. These wines are hand crafted and made in small batches in collaboration with our head winemaker, Brett Woodward. A collaboration resulting in wines of outstanding quality, synonymous with Saddler’s Creek signature winemaking style.
2009 Phil received the Hunter Valley Wine & Tourism Industry’s highest honour of ‘Hunter Valley Living Legend’ joining an illustrious list of winners: Karl Stockhausen, Max Drayton, and Jay Tulloch
2006 Phil received the prestigious trophy ‘Graham Gregory Award’ Past winners include: Murray Tyrrell, Deen De Bortoli and Brian McGuigan.
