The Beaver Pond located West of Hungerford, is a perfect spot for your horses to take a drink.

Mission Statement: The mission of the Kensington Trail Riders (KTR) is to promote, preserve, improve and create opportunities for equestrians and the equestrian trails and facilities of Kensington Metropark and surrounding areas. KTR will work to ensure present and future equestrian usage and enjoyment while building a community of trail riders, cultivating strong relationships with the Huron Clinton Metropolitan Authority and other trail organizations in the area. By encouraging proper land management, equal access and promotion of equestrian trail opportunities, the Kensington Trail Riders will encourage equestrian tourism to the Huron Clinton Metropark Authority and be a voice and advocate to policy makers and management in regard to equestrian trails and facilities within the Kensington Metro Park or HCMAarea.
Kensington Metropark encompasses more than 4500 acres of beautiful flat to rolling terrain through mixed hardwoods and open fields. With more than thirty miles of out and back trails in the park and a single-track connector route to Proud Lake State Recreation Area and its trail system, there is a riding route and terrain elements for any riding preference. The Huron River meanders through the Northwest corner of the park and provides a welcome oasis for watering your horse or taking a swim after a hot ride.
The park is home to deer and wild turkeys. You might see the large Sandhill Cranes that frequent the area and get to hear their prehistoric cry In some places the trail will border Kent Lake or maybe you'll ride to the high points of the nine mile western loop. The staging area off Martindale Road between Dawson Road and GM Road is frequently busy with horse people from all areas. Kensington allows no hunting and is generally relatively bug free when other areas are unridable. Facilities at the staging area include a Porta John and nearby hand pump for water, although most just ride their horses over the hill to the river to water. In the warmer months many riders like to take a short ride to the Dairy Queen for a treat to complete their day in the saddle, so make sure to bring along a little extra cash. It is a beautiful park and we are sure you will enjoy your ride here.

Pinckney Trail Riders Association (PTRA) is a 501c3 non-profit corporation registered with the Internal Revenue Service and the Michigan Attorney General’s office as a charitable organization.
Our purpose is to improve, protect, maintain and expand the horse trails in the Pinckney Recreation Area and surrounding areas for use by horsemen and women, their families and the general public for horseback riding, horse camping and horse related activities.
Further goals are to establish and maintain a good working relationship with Michigan DNR personnel and to assist them in their efforts to maintain adequate campgrounds and riding trails. Pinckney Trail Riders Association is recognized as a Friends Group of the DNR. As such, PTRA participates with DNR sponsored equine related activities and has other related equine input. PTRA also regularly provides the DNR with our Volunteer Hours Log, where volunteer names and hours are recorded. Since May, 2009 PTRA volunteers have put in over 1,000 recordable hours.
PTRA provides our members with the opportunity to connect with fellow equestrians via our Facebook page and email groups (must be a member to receive the benefit of email group participation).
Members also enjoy the many activities planned each year including, but not limited to educational seminars, clinics, picnics, connection with fellow equestrians and other trail groups with information sharing.
PTRA encourages our youth to become involved with horses by exposing them to riding and horses.
PTRA raises funds through donations which are tax deductible, annual flower sales in March, and membership dues to hire contract labor for heavy trail maintenance. Periodic work bees are held for additional maintenance work with cooperation of other user groups (i.e., running and hiking groups). PTRA encourages cooperation between different user groups.
Although we support horseback riding, we also know there are those who do not ride but still support the idea of having open space where the public can go and enjoy the beauty of nature. Your membership can help us to protect the land without ever having “sat on a horse”. Visit our website calendar to learn more about our Spring Fling Banquet for members, plus our signature Blessing of the Horse and Ride to Hell is held annually in May.

The 9 Mile: Great for any rider. This trail system does have hills and some rougher terrain. Riders of all ages and skill levels love the scenery!
The 6 Mile: We would rate this trail great for any beginner rider. Minimal rocks and easily navigable terrain.
Yearly: $20

WHYBECOMEAMEMBER?
The 4 Mile: This trail is known for it's more rocky terrain. It does have some steep hills, but the scenes are WORTH IT! Find yourself on top of a high ridge looking down into the forest and you can sometimes see Gun Lake on a beautiful fall day when the leaves aren't so thick.
TRAILS ARE FOR EQUESTRIAN USE ONLY
The Yankee Springs Trail Riders Association is dedicated to preserving, protecting, improving, and expanding existing horse campgrounds and trailsintheYankeeSpringsRecreationarea. Your memberships are a big part of why we can continue our efforts. Without funding from our members and supporters, we cannot properly maintainandexpandwhatyou’vealreadycometoknowandlove.
Due to your support over the last couple of years, we have been able to make amazing improvements
• A new trail on the perimeter of camp (Billy the kid trail)
• Several upgrades to our obstacle course
• New corrals on many campsites
• And our current work in progress – an entire new day use area…with running water!
Without your memberships, these expansions and upgrades cannot be afforded so easily… or at all. While YSTRAstrives to host events for the community that are family friendly and fun, we believe that the overall function and maintenance of our facilities have needed to take precedence as of recent.
