Celebrating 50 Years of Shore To Shore Rides!

Michigan Shore To Shore Riding Hiking Trail 50th Anniversary Celebration!

Saturday, June 21st, 2014 Kalkaska Kaliseum Horse Arena, Kalkaska, MI The MTRA invites you to help us celebrate the Michigan Shore-to-Shore Riding and Hiking Trail’s 50th anniversary dedication ceremony. The Shore-to-Shore Trail system was developed by the cooperation of the Michigan State Department of Natural Resources, the US Forest Service and the MTRA and was originally dedicated by then Governor, George Romney in 1964. In 2014 this trail system consists of over 500 connecting miles of non-motorized trails and 19 campgrounds. The Shore-to-Shore Trail system traverses through some of Michigan’s most scenic forests and woodlands as it crosses our state from Oscoda to Empire and Cadillac to Mackinaw City. Trail users are able to access remote areas of the Huron-Manistee National Forest and Michigan’s State Forests in a non-intrusive manner that allows them to experience nature first hand. Users will cross rippling creeks on quaint bridges, travel through wetlands on boardwalks and be awestruck by the beautiful vistas from the high banks overlooking riverbeds. The MTRA maintains marks and enhances this trail system in cooperation with and generous help from the Michigan DNR and USFS.
