Artwork Guidelines - E-mail artwork to: artwork@morcoline.com Artwork

The information on this page is to assist in preparing artwork for MORCO. The imprint method and the ad panel size (width x height) of each MORCO product is listed with each item.

Distributors will be notified if an art charge applies to their submitted artwork, the reason for that charge and their options.

• Factory reserves the right to determine acceptable art which may vary according to product.

• Art department time for artwork recreation, excessive typesetting, color separations, color trapping, adjusting thin lines, opening reverses, etc. is billed at $50.00(K) per hour.

• Artwork Transfers. Artwork cannot be transferred from one distributor to another without written permission from the customer.

• Use of Logos. The Purchaser must indemnify MORCO of any liability arising out of or relating to any actual or alleged infringement of trademark, copyright, service mark, etc.

• Most copy, art, logos and photos in magazines or books are copyrighted. Never submit photos or artwork that is not the property of your customers.

• Artwork submitted in vector format is recommended.

• Some thin lines, small copy and reverses may not reproduce as submitted and may need to be altered to imprint clearly.

• Halftones are printed at 55 lpi – (Non-Digital Printing). Halftone range from 30% to 55%.

At this line screen, dots are visible and may appear coarse or grainy. Gradients are available as a one-color fade and must be 30% to 55% range. Half-tones must be sent as digital files created at 600 dpi or in vector format. Placed images are not acceptable. Not available on all items.

• PDF files can’t be used as art unless they can be converted to an .ai file without any link or font problems.

• We do not accept page layout programs such as MS Word or Pagemaker. File formats such as .doc, .pub, .exe and .dat are unacceptable.

Four Color - Direct Screen, Morcolor and Digital

The best way to submit art is to send computer art on CD or e-mail attachments. See Choosing the proper program section. We can also work from high quality color photos and preprinted material.

Digital printing requires a customer approved color reference along with all files for color matching.

Note: The ad panel and bleed dimensions are different sizes.

Note: Exact PMS match may not be possible on full color digital printing. We will come as close as possible to the PMS color specified Note: Image colors can vary slightly during production runs and on repeat orders.

Tips when submitting copy: • Glossy color photos are best.

• Glamour photos with diffused lighting don’t reproduce well.

• Submit copy actual size or larger (8-1/2” x 14” max scanning size).

• Copy preprinted in photos that needs enlarged or reduced does not reproduce well.

Choosing the proper program to create your art files Please note: We use Macintosh computer platform.

• We make every attempt to convert PC generated artwork to usable MAC art. We cannot be held responsible for any discrepancies that may occur when documents are opened by our MAC version programs.

Artwork & Logos Use Illustrator CS3

• For logos and computer-drawn line art using vector lines.

• For simple typesetting. Note: convert type to outlines.

• Export other vector drawing program files (i.e. CorelDraw) to an .ai Illustrator file.

Make sure compatibility is set to Macintosh and text is exported as curves or paths.

• Save format as .ai not .eps.

• AutoTrace files are not recommended.

NOTE: A scanned image or logo placed into Illustrator and saved as .ai or .eps is not a true vector art file and can’t be used as art. To convert these type of files will incur an art charge.

Page Layout

Use InDesign CS3

• For extensive type layout with graphics included.

• You MUST send copies of all fonts used in the job.

• You MUST send copies of ALL imported or placed graphics (i.e. logos, line art, photos, scans, etc.).

Photos

Use PhotoShop CS3

• For B&W or color photos placed into other programs.

• For all full-color imprinting, photo resolution must be to at least 600 dots per inch.

• For high resolution scans that would be used as 1 color imprints, set resolution at 1200 dots per inch.

• Quality is best if PhotoShop is not used for logos or text. Usually, we will need to redraw these in Illustrator. This conversion will incur an art charge.

• Always send a layered file verses a flat file.

• Save format as layered .psd only.

Sending Art Via E-mail or Disk E-mail artwork attachments to artwork@morcoline.com 1. Art must include distributor’s company name, phone number and purchase order number.

2. Art must include product number, product color and imprint color.

3. A hard copy or PDF of the complete imprint must accompany the file(s).

4. “Stuff” or “Zip” large files or groups of files that are over 5mb in size.

5. Send copies of all fonts (screen, postscript and truetype) used. Outline all fonts in Illustrator.

6. Digital photo resolution should be at least 600 dpi. High resolution scans that would be used as 1 color imprint, set resolution at 1200 dpi.

7. Assign PMS numbers when possible or note when we can use our standard colors. See page 55 for standard printing colors.

8. To email large files, log on to morcoline.com or hugefile.com or transferbigfiles.com.

When sending art on a disk:

The same instructions apply as in sending art via e-mail with the following additions; 1. Send a copy of your files on disk, DO NOT SEND THE ORIGINAL DISK. Disk formats we can use: CD, DVD 2. Pack disk in a rigid envelope and mark outside “Magnetic Media.”

All media will be returned when order is finished.

General Information Production Time. Standard production time

varies depending upon item and imprinting method.

Normal production time is 2 weeks. Production time does not include day order is received; production time will begin after receipt of usable art. Production time starts after final proof approval.

MORCO offers a 3 and 5 day Rush Service on many of our items (as indicated at each item). RUSH SERVICE must be clearly marked (as well as the Event Date) on the purchase order and be pre-approved by MORCO. Rush Service availability is based upon product inventory, imprint method, and imprint complexity.

A Rush Charge of 15% could be assessed depending on workload, delivery time, order requirements, if non-premium ship method is used, etc. If a Rush Charge is required, MORCO will quote upon receipt of inquiry/order.

Cancellations or Changes to Orders.

A minimum of $35.00(G) charge will be assessed on all orders cancelled 24 hours after receipt by MORCO. Actual cost will be based on the value of the work completed at the notice of cancellation. All cancellations and any changes to an order must be submitted in writing.

Order Set-ups. See individual product listings.

Setups are per imprint color per location.

Reorder Set-ups. Reorder set-up is for the

printer putting the plate/screen on the press, positioning the copy, mixing the ink, running a test piece and to get the printing approved/inspected before the production run.

Reorders must specify previous invoice number, date, PO number, item number, item color, and imprint color. Reorder set-up must be for EXACTLY the same copy – no changes. Any copy or product change does not qualify for a Reorder set-up. Orders more than 3 years old will require a regular set-up.

Less Than Minimum. Absolute minimum for

each item is one-half the minimum quantity list in catalog under each item (except 819, 820, 821, 822, 823, 828 & 900). Absolute minimum for these is 200 pieces. LTM charge is the same as an item’s regular Set-up charge based on the printing method. Note: Clipboards with copy on clip and board will incur a LTM charge for the board imprint only.

Change of Copy. Is the same as an item’s

regular Set-up charge based on the printing method.

Absolute minimum quantity still applies (see above).

Electronic Personalization. Products available with electronic personalization can have each recipient’s name imprinted on them. This personalization is available at no additional charge on the same side as the ad copy based on proper submission of names.

Each individual name (upper and lower case) must be typed on one line and then the next name on the line below, etc. The file must be saved in a “.txt” format or an Excel (.xls) format. Submit list via e-mail. Names will be printed directly from file with no alterations. For Morco to type names from a printed list add $.50(G) per name.

Overruns and Underruns. Morco reserves the right to overship or undership up to 5% and bill accordingly. Orders requesting “No Overruns” are subject to undershipment of up to 5%. Orders requesting “Exact Quantity”, will incur a $35.00(G) per order handling charge.

1. Paper Proofs. Fax paper proofs or e-mail proofs

are available on request within 2 to 3 days. Add $7.25(G).

2. Actual Proofs. Item’s set-up cost(s)/color/location.

Adds 5 days to production time. Recommended on all large orders. Unavailable on some items.

3. Production time does not begin until we receive a signed approval. Delays in approving will delay the shipping of the order.

4. Light imprint on dark surfaces or large reverse areas. When a light color imprint is

requested on a dark surface or when a large reverse area is needed, it is difficult to get the coverage on an item that is normally printed via letterpress. The screen printing process is best for these instances.

When silk screen printing an item normally printed via letterpress printing, add the following per color: a. Additional Set-Up: $15.00(G) b. Additional per piece: $.25(G)

Random Samples. There is NO CHARGE for

random imprinted samples up to $5/order. Please provide shipping account number for expedited shipping.

3. Bio-Recycled Products. Morco offers many of our products in bio-recycled plastic (off-white or black). The content of the plastic is targeted at 50% post consumer and 50% post industrial. See Item Color listings of individual items for availability.

4. Drop or Split Shipments. $9.00(G) per address.

Orders calling for future shipment must be completely shipped within 6 months after receipt of order.

5. Residential Deliveries, if not specified on purchase order, will be subject to a “Residential Delivery Charge” by the carrier. Charge backs will be invoiced at a later day after the factory receives them from the carrier.

6. Incorrect Addresses are subject to an “Address Correction Charge” by the carrier. Charge backs will be invoiced at a later date after the factory receives them from the carrier. If a shipment is returned to the factory there is an additional charge per carton to repack and reship. Factory to quote.

7. Shipping weights are approximate. Morco is not responsible for the difference in actual freight vs. quoted estimates. Air Freight/3 Day Select charges are subject to dimensional weight regulations by individual carriers. Ground charges for oversized cartons up to 108” are calculated at 30 lbs./carton.

Over 108” cartons are charged at 70 lbs./carton.

8. Claims & Returns. All shipments should be thoroughly checked upon arrival. Factory must be notified within 30 days of any defects, omissions or errors in manufacturing. Only authorized returns will be accepted. All shipments leave the factory in good condition after inspection. Claims for lost or damaged merchandise, or concealed damage should be filed with the delivering carrier. Leave shipment intact and file claim immediately.

9. Palletizing. All truck shipments will be palletized and shrink-wrapped. Handling charge is $18.00(G) per pallet.
