SAG-AFTRA Conservatory Presents Working Around the Country Are you interested in pursuing work outside of Chicago? Wonder what the difference is between New York, Los Angeles and Atlanta? How do you approach pilot season - if it even exists anymore? This is your opportunity to hear about this topic from the perspective of actors in the know along with agents and casting directors who help to book talent in jobs across the country. When you sign in, you may purchase a four-hour ticket for $13 cash, $14 Visa, MasterCard or American Express payment. You will need both tickets to exit the parking structure. This meeting is only open to paid-up SAG-AFTRA members in good standing. Unfortunately, no guests allowed. Parents/guardians of younger performers under 18 years old are welcome. SAGAFTRA members, please bring your membership card (paid through April 30, 2016) for admittance.
Chicago SAG Awards Viewing Party Saturday, Jan. 30 5:30 p.m.: Reception 7 - 9 p.m.: SAG Awards Show Live Rockit Bar & Grill 22 W. Hubbard Chicago, IL rockitbarandgrill.com Light hors d'oeuvres, cash bar, prizes, casual attire Free to SAG-AFTRA members in good standing. Guests are $15 each, maximum of two guests per member. We will have a special section for our young performers, so all are encouraged to attend! Space is limited. Please RSVP to kathy.byrne@sagaftra.org with the names of your guests. We will be accepting new or slightly used socks for the Woolgathering Project, which was started by members Beth Lacke and the late Molly Glynn. Tapping into the generosity and warmth of our community, they began collecting socks for Chicago's homeless. Janelle Snow has joined Lacke to keep the dream going and growing. So, please bring some socks. Special note: We are looking for an amateur photographer to take pictures during the event. Please let us know if you are interested. The SAG Awards will be simulcast live coast to coast on TNT and TBS on Saturday, Jan. 30, at 7 p.m. CT. An encore presentation will air on TNT at 9 p.m. CT. The stunt honors will be announced live from the red carpet on sagawards.tntdrama.com and people.com at 5:15 p.m. CT. Please watch. KMRC Committee Meeting Noon, Wednesday, Jan. 20 Join the Kaufherr Members Resource Center Committee and play a role in guaranteeing that the KMRC continues to be a valuable resource. Your input is important to the KMRC and the many members who use it. Whatever your skills or areas of interest are, your help is needed. There is always much work to do. SAG-AFTRA to Volunteer at GCFD Feb. 5 The SAG-AFTRA Chicago Local is returning to the Greater Chicago Food Depository. Join staff and members from 9 - 11:45 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 5. The GCFD is at 4100 W. Ann Lurie Place in Chicago. This is near Midway Airport. Free parking is available. We never know exactly what we'll be doing, but volunteer opportunities include repacking bulk products to individual/family sizes, assembling boxes with assorted food, checking expiration dates, labeling products, sorting products, etc. Participants must be at least 14 years old. The GCFD distributes donated and purchased food through a network of 650 pantries, soup kitchens and shelters to 678,000 adults and children in Cook County every year. This event is open to everyone. Applications for Scholarships Now Available The SAG-AFTRA Foundation has three types of scholarships available for eligible SAG-AFTRA members and their dependents:
The John L. Dales Standard Scholarship is awarded to eligible SAG-AFTRA members and their dependents for study at accredited institutions of higher education;
The John L. Dales Transitional Scholarship is awarded to eligible SAG-AFTRA members to pursue related professions within the entertainment industry or change their career paths;
The George Heller Memorial Scholarship is awarded to eligible SAG-AFTRA members and their dependents for study at accredited institutions of higher education.
There is a single online application that must be filled out to apply for the SAG-AFTRA Foundation scholarships. The Foundation staff determines which scholarship criteria (Dales or Heller) the applicant meets. An applicant may qualify for only one scholarship per year. Application deadline is Mar. 31. For more information and to apply, please visit sagfoundation.org. CFL Applications for the Chicago Federation of Labor's 2016 William A. Lee Memorial Scholarship are available on the CFL website. Five academic-based scholarships and five random-drawing scholarships in the amount of $2,000 each will be awarded to high school seniors who will be graduating in the spring of 2016. More information and the application is available online. The application deadline is Tuesday, March 1, 2016. The applicant or his/her parent must be a member in good standing of a union affiliated with the Chicago Federation of Labor. SAG-AFTRA is an affiliate. All applications must be signed by one of the top officers of the member's local union. Union Plus Scholarship Program The Union Plus Scholarship program, now in its 24th year, has awarded more than $3.7 million in educational funding to more than 2,500 union family members. The 2016 Union Plus Scholarship application is now available online. These programs are being produced and administered by entities independent of SAG-AFTRA. Any questions must be handled by the provider.

Holiday Schedule for Office and KMRC The SAG-AFTRA Chicago Local office and the KMRC will be closed on Monday, Jan. 19, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
