The O cial Bank of the 31st Annual SAG Awards®
City National® proudly celebrates the entertainment industry and the performers who make it shine.
Since our founding here in Los Angeles in 1954, we’ve always supported the community that first inspired us.
Congratulations to all of this year’s nominees.
February 23, 2025
Fellow members of SAG-AFTRA,
Tonight we’re grateful that the Actors Party in the Actor’s House can happen at all. Our heartfelt sympathies go out to all who have been impacted by the wind-driven fires that have devastated parts of Los Angeles and the surrounding areas.
This evening we honor Jane Fonda with the 60th Life Achievement Award. Given annually to an actor who fosters the finest ideals of the acting profession, the Life Achievement Award is just the latest of Ms. Fonda’s impressive accolades; she has previously been recognized by the Oscars, the Emmys, the Grammys, the American Film Institute Life Achievement Award, and the Golden Globes, including with its Cecil B. DeMille Award, among many others. She received Women in Film’s Humanitarian Award, which is now named for her. Her screen roles, from Klute and Coming Home to The China Syndrome and On Golden Pond, are legendary. Outside of her acting work, Ms. Fonda supports a range of charitable organizations and has been a vocal advocate for gender equality, civil rights and environmental justice, most recently through her Fire Drill Fridays, a series of climate change protests aimed at raising awareness about the global climate crisis. Her latest book, What Can I Do? My Path From Climate Despair to Action, details her personal journey with the movement and provides solutions for communities to combat the climate crisis. She has described this as her life’s work.
We are grateful to the Directors Guild of America, the Writers Guild of America and the American Federation of Musicians, whose generosity enables the presentation of every film and television clip you see tonight. IATSE and the Teamsters have always supported the SAG Awards as well, and we appreciate the presence of their members on our picket lines last year.
118,690 members were eligible to vote this year. The votes have been tallied, and the results will be viewed live on Netflix by millions all over the globe. The show is also carried on the Armed Forces Network.
Every year, we are inspired by the performances of our nominees and fellow SAG-AFTRA members. This year, beyond being moved by them, we are thankful to all of the artists whose work has comforted us, entertained us and helped us through an exceptionally difficult year that none of us will ever forget.
Keep up your amazing work and stay strong.

Legendary actor and activist Jane Fonda is the 6Oth recipient of SAG-AFTRA’s highest honor: the SAG Life Achievement Award for career achievements and humanitarian accomplishments.
The SAG Life Achievement Award is given annually to an actor who fosters the “finest ideals of the acting profession”, and, as this year’s recipient, Jane Fonda will be celebrated for her masterful performances as well as her impactful activism.
Fonda’s acclaimed career, which spans six decades, has captivated audiences with her versatile performances across film, television and theater while using her platform to champion critical social causes. Her previous honors have included two Oscars, two BAFTA Awards, an Emmy, seven Golden Globes, the 2015 AFI Life Achievement Award, the Cecil B. DeMille Award, Elle’s Women in Hollywood Icon Award and the Women in Film Jane Fonda Humanitarian Award named after Fonda for her lifelong activism and philanthropic commitments, which has evolved into an annual award that honors other philanthropic female artists each year. She accepted The Harry Belafonte Voices for Social Justice Award at the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival, and, most recently, Fonda accepted the TIME Magazine Earth Award in April 2024.
Jane Fonda made her film debut in Tall Story , but it was her performance in Klute that solidified her status as a leading actor, earning her the first of two Academy Awards for Best Actress. She went on to star in iconic films such as Coming Home, for which she received her second Academy Award, and 9 to 5, a beloved comedy about workplace sexism in which she co-starred and produced alongside Lily Tomlin and Dolly Parton. Fonda’s filmography is as varied as it is impressive, with notable works like They Shoot Horses, Don’t They? , The China Syndrome and On Golden Pond
After her role in Stanley & Iris, Fonda announced her retirement from film, stepping away from the industry for over a decade. In 2005, Fonda made a highly publicized return with the comedy Monsterin-Law, opposite Jennifer Lopez, followed by Georgia Rule in 2007. In the 2010s, Fonda appeared in Our Souls at Night, reuniting with Robert Redford, and the ensemble comedy Book Club, which was a major box office success.
In 2023, Jane Fonda had a standout year with four film releases, proving that she can still commandeer a box office and push older generations to the theater. She reunited with Diane Keaton, Mary Steenburgen and Candice Bergen for Book Club 2; starred in Moving On opposite Lily Tomlin, a longtime friend and co-star; and voiced ‘Grandmama’ in DreamWorks’ Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken Fonda also starred in 80 for Brady alongside Lily Tomlin, Sally Field and Rita Moreno, all previous SAG Life Achievement Award recipients.
Jane Fonda’s work on television has been as impactful as her film career. In 1984, she earned a Primetime Emmy® Award for her role in The Dollmaker . In the 2010s, Fonda made a significant return to television with a recurring role as media CEO Leona Lansing in HBO’s The Newsroom. Her performance earned her two Emmy nominations for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series.
Fonda’s television success continued in 2015 with Grace and Frankie, where she co-starred alongside Lily Tomlin, and garnered three SAG Awards nominations for Outstanding Female Actor in a Comedy Series. The series continued to earn Fonda widespread critical acclaim and became Netflix’s longest-running series, with seven seasons, which concluded in 2022. In 2018, she also released Jane Fonda in Five Acts, a documentary for HBO chronicling her life and activism, which was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award.
Jane Fonda has never shied away from using her platform to effect change and her introduction to activism can be traced back to her prominent voice as part of the antiwar movement in the early 1960s and beyond. In 1969, Fonda lent her support to the Indigenous American occupation of Alcatraz Island, a protest aimed at highlighting the U.S. government’s failure to honor treaty rights and advocating for greater Indigenous sovereignty.
In 1984, Fonda co-founded the Hollywood Women’s Political Committee (HWPC) alongside Barbra Streisand and other influential women in the entertainment industry. The HWPC was created to mobilize political support for progressive causes, which led to the election of a record number of women to Congress in 1992, a moment often referred to as the “Year of the Woman.” Furthermore, she co-founded the Women’s Media Center alongside Robin Morgan and Gloria Steinem in 2005, an organization dedicated to amplifying women’s voices in media.
Fonda has also always been a vocal advocate for gender equality, civil rights and environmental justice, through her Fire Drill Fridays, a series of climate change protests aimed at raising awareness about the global climate crisis. In 2022, she launched the Jane Fonda Climate PAC, focused on defeating political allies of the fossil fuel industry down the ballot and in her latest book, What Can I Do? My Path From Climate Despair to Action, she details her personal journey with the movement and provides solutions for communities to combat the climate crisis, which she has proclaimed as her life’s work. Notably, Jane celebrated her 85th birthday by raising $1 million for her nonprofit, the Georgia Campaign for Adolescent Power & Potential (GCAPP), which is a statewide health organization focused on providing school-aged children with the resources they need to make healthy life decisions and maximize their potential.

Tonight, as we gather to celebrate the artistry and excellence of our community, we are also reminded of the strength and resilience that define us. In the aftermath of the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles, many of our fellow SAG-AFTRA artists and their families have lost their homes, vehicles, and sense of security. The SAG-AFTRA Foundation stepped up immediately, providing critical financial assistance to those in serious need—helping them secure housing and begin rebuilding their lives. We are grateful to SAG-AFTRA and everyone who contributed to our Disaster Relief Fund, ensuring our community in need has somewhere to turn when they need it most.
For 40 years, our Foundation has been a lifeline for SAG-AFTRA artists. Since 1985, we have granted over $33 million in emergency financial assistance to members in crises—whether from natural disasters, medical crises, industry work stoppages, or the COVID-19 pandemic. When disaster strikes, we take care of our own. If you or someone you know needs support, or if you’d like to help, please visit sagaftrafoundation.org.
Beyond emergency relief, the Foundation is committed to supporting artists at every stage of their careers. Our free educational programs provide vital resources, from casting workshops and industry panels to voiceover labs and on-camera training. And through Storyline Online®, our Emmy®-nominated children’s literacy program, SAG-AFTRA storytellers inspire millions of young readers worldwide.
None of this would be possible without the generosity of our supporters and donors, including the annual SAG Awards and its sponsors.
The work that we do matters—especially in challenging times like these. Film, television, and storytelling have the power to lift weary souls, bring laughter and joy, and offer hope when the world feels uncertain. Tonight, we celebrate the performances that bring us together—and stand united in supporting those in our community who need us most.
Gracefully,
Courtney B. Vance President and Chairman of the Board SAG-AFTRA Foundation
40 years, the SAG-AFTRA
We recognize the many challenges our community faces, especially those in Los Angeles. We remain committed to providing support, including disaster relief for members whose homes were lost in recent wildfires.
In addition, we continue offering career-building programs to help members nationwide grow and prepare for new opportunities as the industry recovers. Join us in strengthening our community.
The Screen Actors Guild Foundation is established as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and assumes responsibility for the Screen Actors Guild’s Emergency Assistance Program, providing emergency financial assistance to SAG members in urgent need.
The SAG Foundation begins fundraising and administering the John L. Dales Scholarship Fund, awarded to SAG members and their dependents for study at higher education institutions.
The Foundation launches Storyline Online, a children's literacy program that inspires a love of reading by featuring some of the world's best storytellers reading children’s books aloud alongside animated illustrations.
The SAG Foundation's Actors Center opens in Los Angeles, offering a screening room, computer lab, and classroom. It's the first center of its kind to provide free educational programs for working actors.
2014
The SAG Foundation’s New York Actors Center opens, and includes a voiceover lab, computer lab and classroom for educational programs.
Following the union’s merger in 2012, the SAG Foundation merges with the AFTRA Foundation to become the SAG-AFTRA Foundation, supporting all SAG-AFTRA members nationwide with a vital safety net and free educational programming.
The COVID-19 pandemic shuts down the industry, prompting the Foundation to shift from in-person to nationwide virtual programming. Under new President Courtney B. Vance, it raises and grants over $7 million in emergency aid, helping more than 7,500 SAG-AFTRA members with basic needs.
Due to the historic WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, the Foundation granted over $14 million in emergency aid to thousands of members, helping with housing, food, medical bills, and utilities—providing critical support until they could return to work and regain stability.
The Foundation’s state-of-the-art Meryl Streep Center for Performing Artists opens in Los Angeles, featuring premier spaces like the Tom Hanks & Rita Wilson Screening Room, Leonardo DiCaprio On-Camera Studio, Don LaFontaine Voiceover Lab, and more—offering cuttingedge resources and facilities for SAG-AFTRA members.
The SAG-AFTRA Foundation marks 40 years of supporting SAG-AFTRA members. One week into the new year, deadly wildfires devastated Los Angeles. The Foundation activated its Disaster Relief Fund to aid members who lost homes, helping them rebuild their lives. This vital work will continue as long as the need remains.
More than 33 million people in the U.S. suffer from life-threatening food allergies. Epinephrine is their lifeline—but 34% of people don’t use this life-saving medication when they should, citing FEAR OF NEEDLES among their reasons. NOW, there is a new needle-free epinephrine option, so there are no more excuses not to get or use this life-saving treatment.
