SAG-AFTRA Chicago Conservatory Presents KMRC Tech Night 6 - 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 12 Introducing KMRC Tech Night on Monday, Jan. 12. This workshop includes an overview of basic computer knowledge (both Mac and PC), email and Internet tips. You'll also learn how to personalize your Actors Access and Casting Networks accounts and create social media accounts like LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Tumblr. Learn computer shortcuts, tips and tricks on using the Web and the many options for creating an online presence. This workshop is great for beginners and anyone wanting more proficiency with computers. It is also good for those wanting more knowledge about using the Internet and social media. There will be time for Q&A, too. Please bring your personal computer (either Mac or PC) or paper and pen to take notes and follow along. If you would like to get up to speed with social media, learn basic and general computer skills, or just need a refresher course, this workshop is for you. Please RSVP to Kathy Byrne at kathy.byrne@sagaftra.org. Park for $13 at 10 East Ontario. Enter on the north side of Ontario between Wabash and State, and then take a ticket. When you sign in, you may purchase a four-hour ticket for $13. You will need both tickets to exit the parking structure. Cash only. Debbie Reynolds to be Honored with 2014 SAG Life Achievement Award Debbie Reynolds - actor, singer, dancer, author, champion for the preservation of the artifacts of film history and for the understanding and treatment of mental illness - has been named the 51st recipient of SAG-AFTRA's highest honor: the SAG Life Achievement Award for career achievement and humanitarian accomplishment. Given annually to an actor who fosters the "finest ideals of the acting profession," the union's highest accolade will be presented to the Oscar-, Emmy- and Tony-nominated Reynolds at the 21st Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards速 by her daughter, actor and author Carrie Fisher.

You can also follow the SAG Awards on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. SAG-AFTRA to Volunteer at GCFD Feb. 13 SAG-AFTRA Chicago Local is returning to the Greater Chicago Food Depository. Join staff and members from 9 - 11:45 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 13. The GCFD is at 4100 W. Ann Lurie Place in Chicago. This is near Midway Airport. Free parking is available. We never know exactly what we'll be doing, but volunteer opportunities include repacking bulk products to individual/family sizes, assembling boxes with assorted food, checking expiration dates, labeling products, sorting products, etc. Participants must be at least 14 years old. The GCFD is a nonprofit food distribution and training center providing food for hungry people and striving to end hunger in our community. The GCFD distributes donated and purchased food through a network of 650 pantries, soup kitchens and shelters to 678,000 adults and children in Cook County every year. This event is open to everyone. Join the Rep Team Hey SAG-AFTRA Chicago Local members: We are looking for members to become part of the Rep Team. What is the Rep Team? The Rep Team is made up of SAG-AFTRA members who reach out to theater majors and film students at local colleges and attend local film-related functions like the Women in Film Focus Awards, Midwest Independent Film Festival, etc. If you are interested in being considered to serve on the Rep Team in 2015, please contact Kathy Byrne at kathy.byrne@sagaftra.org for the next training date. John L. Dales Scholarship The 2015 John L. Dales Scholarship competition is now open for SAG-AFTRA members and their dependents. The deadline for submission is March 16. Since its creation, the John L. Dales Scholarship Fund has awarded more than $6 million in scholarships to 1,730 SAG-AFTRA members and their dependents. There are two types of John L. Dales scholarships: Standard scholarships are awarded to eligible SAG-AFTRA members and their dependents for study at accredited institutions of higher education. Transitional scholarships are awarded to eligible SAG-AFTRA members interested in pursuing related professions within the entertainment industry or changing their career paths. John L. Dales scholarships are granted for study at accredited and licensed universities, colleges, junior colleges, adult specialty schools and trade/vocational schools. The number and amounts awarded are determined annually by a committee of the SAG Foundation. The John L. Dales Scholarship Fund is available for eligible SAG-AFTRA members and their dependents and made possible through gifts, grants and sponsorships. The SAG Foundation never draws on SAG-AFTRA dues or initiation fees. More details and an application are available online.
Parking Pass Increase The cost to park in the ramp at the SAG-AFTRA Chicago office increased on Jan. 1. A four-hour pass is $13 and a 12-hour pass is $15. The passes may be purchased at the SAG-AFTRA Chicago office. Holiday Schedule for Office and KMRC The SAG-AFTRA Chicago Local office and the KMRC will be closed on Monday, Jan. 19, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. In response to members' requests to stay informed, The Activator may include notice of rallies, pickets and other actions by unions and the labor movement that have not been sanctioned by the National or Chicago Board of Directors of SAG-AFTRA.
