The Woolgathering Project Something as simple as socks can make a significant impact on a person who is living without heat or a home. Last year during the polar vortex, two SAG-AFTRA members, Beth Lacke and the late Molly Glynn, launched the Woolgathering Project. Tapping into the generosity and warmth of our community, they began collecting socks for Chicago's homeless. This year, Janelle Snow has joined Lacke to keep the dream going and growing. Why socks? Often, the most requested item at homeless shelters, socks get a lot of wear and become dirty very quickly. With no place to wash clothing, socks are discarded regularly. Those without homes spend much of their time on their feet, making foot health important. Clean, dry socks play a key role, especially during the cold Chicago winter. Donations may be made at Sock-Boxes, available in several locations, including the SAG-AFTRA Chicago Local at 1 East Erie, Suite 650. Visit the Woolgathering Project for other locations, special events and more information.
