Help a Family in Need Through United for the Holidays The United Way is building on the success of its annual Adopt-a-Family program and expanding it into a new program called United for the Holidays. The event will be a resource fair held on the South Side of Chicago, and families will receive winter essentials, such as winter coats and scarves, in addition to being able to access health screenings, resume workshops and learn about other services and resources available in their community. How to Make a Cash Donation: Donations can be made directly to United Way to support a family, most of which have four to six family members. All amounts are welcome. Volunteers are also welcome at the event, which will likely take place the first week of December.
A donation of $250 will provide a family with winter coats and a holiday meal. A donation of $500 will provide a family with winter coats, other winter essentials, a holiday meal, and transit cards. A donation of $1,000 will provide two families with winter coats, other winter essentials, a holiday meal and transit cards.
Checks should be written out to United Way of Metropolitan Chicago and sent to: United Way of Metropolitan Chicago c/o Labor Department th 333 S. Wabash, 30 Floor Chicago, IL 60604 How to Donate Other Items: United Way is also looking for donated items, including grocery gift cards, new coats, hats, mittens and scarves, as well as toys and transit passes.
