The Woolgathering Project Something as simple as socks can make a significant impact on a person who is living without heat or a home. Last year during the polar vortex, two SAG-AFTRA members, Beth Lacke and the late Molly Glynn, launched the Woolgathering Project. Tapping into the generosity and warmth of our community, they began collecting socks for Chicago's homeless. This year, Janelle Snow has joined Lacke to keep the dream going and growing. Why socks? Often, the most requested item at homeless shelters, socks get a lot of wear and become dirty very quickly. With no place to wash clothing, socks are discarded regularly. Those without homes spend much of their time on their feet, making foot health important. Clean, dry socks play a key role, especially during the cold Chicago winter. Donations may be made at Sock-Boxes, available in several locations, including the SAG-AFTRA Chicago Local at 1 East Erie, Suite 650. Visit the Woolgathering Project for other locations, special events and more information. Follow the KMRC on Facebook and Twitter How often have you visited the KMRC website in the past month? Member Alert All travel provisions related to the issue commonly known as "portal-to-portal" remain in effect as always, and did not change during our recent negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers or with the television networks. It's important that you know that producers may not unilaterally rewrite these rules. SAG-AFTRA intends to vigorously defend this contract provision using all means available. We are addressing this matter directly with the studios to ensure the proper administration of this provision in our agreement. Performers working on location should review carefully their time sheets and call sheets, and immediately advise the union of any discrepancies they find. We appreciate member inquiries about this issue and will keep you apprised as the situation unfolds. If you have any questions, please call or email Kathy Byrne at (312) 573-5508 or kathy.byrne@sagaftra.org. The Greater Chicago Food Depository is a nonprofit food distribution and training center providing food for hungry people while striving to end hunger in our community. This event is open to everyone. Please ask family and friends to join you. To volunteer, please RSVP to Linda Swenson at linda.swenson@sagaftra.org.
