Summer Intensive 2019 The SAG-AFTRA Los Angeles Conservatory Committee is a remarkable part of our Los Angeles Local – you know that because you’re a member! The Summer Intensive is the biggest annual event of the Conservatory, and we work for months to make it inspiring, challenging, and fun by bringing you the teachers you already know and love, as well as new instructors, classes, and workshops. We strive to provide you opportunities to connect with your fellow members in the classrooms, at the food trucks, or even in the NextGen Performers lounge, where you can charge your phone. As you enjoy the fun and exhilaration one gets from being immersed in a weekend of creativity, our hope is that everything we offer helps you with your successful, ever-evolving, and thriving career.

You are a writer-producer who wrote and produced a short form series so you could play that fulfilling role you weren’t getting from auditioning, and now you want to do more of that. You may be a singer or dancer who also choreographs and coaches.
With the Conservatory offering a year round curriculum, the Summer Intensive is a chance to explore areas that may call to you but are not necessarily on your radar as a serious pursuit. So this summer, go ahead and take that improv class, attend the stunt panel, explore that voiceover workshop, or learn more about social media. This is your weekend to just go for it! Anything that inspires you to be creative and express yourself will also inform your acting. We believe that informed actors are empowered actors. Since being a successful artist often entails some business savvy, we are offering classes on various contracts being taught by the experts who really know what they are

Since its formation in 1997, SAGindie has been traveling to film festivals, trade shows and conventions spreading the word: Just because your film isn’t produced by a studio doesn’t mean you can’t use professional talent. With monthly contract workshops, SAGindie offers filmmakers clarity and kinship by guiding them through the SAG-AFTRA signatory process, making it even easier to hire professional actors, regardless of budget. sagindie.org

FROM STAFF Welcome to the Summer Intensive at the SAG-AFTRA Los Angeles Conservatory! I hope you take advantage of all the casting opportunities, classes, workshops, and panels. This year we are thrilled to roll out new and robust programming. Our journey to create a safe space for actors led us to establish new guidelines and policies that will provide a pleasant learning experience in a professional environment. It is an exciting time for us as we expand our curriculum to include a new space at 5757 Wilshire Blvd., which will allow us to offer more on-camera classes and events to accommodate our growing membership. In addition, the Conservatory now offers table reads where students work on scripts with Writers Guild of America members. The goal is to encourage performers to network and collaborate with other professionals in the industry. When you need coaching, our volunteer teachers are ready to provide you with their knowledge, experience, motivation and strategies to ensure your career is on track. Memberships now run 365 days from the date you enroll. With more classes than ever, be sure to check the classes and events page periodically. Don’t forget to RSVP for our exclusive Actors’ Evening panel discussions that cover industry related topics and are held approximately nine times each year. Maximize your potential to be cast in American Film Institute projects by making sure all of your iActor information is current. Add a reel, fresh headshots and list all of your credits to market your talent. We also invite you to volunteer with the Conservatory and build relationships that will follow you as your career grows and prospers.
