Background 101 Food Drive
Join the Day of Action on May Day -- Today, May 1 Today, workers will join with allies from across Chicagoland to take to the streets to unite against attacks on our communities. Additionally, AFL-CIO Executive Vice President Tefere Gebre will be on hand throughout the day and will be a speaker at the rally at Daley Plaza. May Day Noon: Illinois Labor History Society program at Union Park 1 p.m.: Rally at Union Park 2 p.m.: March to Daley Plaza 4 p.m.: Rally at Daley Plaza For more information on the rallies and march at Union Park and Daley Plaza, as well as other actions throughout the day, visit chimayday.com. A Conversation: Opportunities for Asian Pacific American Actors - Monday, May 1 Sponsored by the SAG-AFTRA National Asian Pacific American Media Committee What challenges do you face as an Asian-American actor? Are you looking to leverage your talents across several acting mediums (TV, theatrical, voiceover, live theater, commercials)? Do you get hired primarily only in one area and ask yourself why? Share an evening with drinks and a light dinner along with other Asian-American actors and let's discuss what it takes to navigate the industry and put ourselves in a better position for more work. Read More Background 101 Do you ever wonder what your contract rights are on set? What constitutes an upgrade on a TV/Theatrical project? If something goes wrong on set, who should you tell, and should it be reported immediately or can it wait until tomorrow? There is so much to learn about the contract provisions for background performers. Come learn the ins and outs of doing background and extra work in Chicago. Enter on the north side of Ontario between Wabash and State, and then take a ticket. When you sign in, you may purchase a four-hour ticket for $13. You will need both tickets to exit the parking structure. Cash only, otherwise add $1 for credit card purchase. This meeting is only open to paid-up SAG-AFTRA members in good standing. SAGAFTRA members, please bring your membership card (paid through Oct. 31, 2017) for admittance. 2017 National Association of Letter Carriers Food Drive The Chicago Local is currently collecting nonperishable food items for the 2017 NALC Food Drive. These donations will help to serve many food banks in the Chicago area. We are one of many unions that will be collecting items at their union halls. Last year, 13 unions collected over 130,000 pounds of food for food banks. Here's how you can help: Bring nonperishable food items with you when you stop by the Chicago Local and KMRC. Or, put your nonperishable food items in a bag and leave it by your mailbox on Saturday, May 13. Your letter carrier will deliver your donation to area food banks. Please be sure to spread the word! One act of kindness births infinite possibilities.
