Monday, Sept. 11, 2017, at 7:30 p.m. The Albert Theatre at Goodman Theatre 170 N. Dearborn St., Chicago Alison Cuddy, former host of Chicago Public Radio's WBEZ 91.5 FM; Marilynn Thoma, artistic director of the Chicago Humanities Festival; and SAG-AFTRA Chicago Local First VP Craig Dellimore, political editor at WBBM Newsradio, will co-host and moderate this roundtable discussion on issues of importance and relevance to the arts, culture and creative industries ahead of the Illinois gubernatorial primary and the Nov. 6, 2018 General Election. Topics will include arts education, community development, cultural exchange, public engagement, and sources of funding and other support for the creative sector. Invitations to participate were extended regardless of party affiliation. Confirmed to attend are state Sen. Daniel Biss, representing Illinois' 9th District; Bob Daiber, regional superintendent of schools for Madison County; and J. B. Pritzker, managing partner and co-founder of the Pritzker Group. Any additional participants in the forum will be announced at later dates.
While admission to the 2017 Gubernatorial Arts Forum is free, space is limited and seating cannot be guaranteed for walk-ups. Join us for an evening with three industry insiders to discuss how to market to creatives. Scheduled to be on the panel: James "Stump" Mahoney of FCB Chicago, Vinny Warren, Founder/Creative Director of The Escape Pod Chicago and Robert Marshall of Source-Connect, with Tim Dadabo as moderator. SAG-AFTRA members, please bring your membership card or digital card on the app (paid through Oct. 31, 2017) for admittance. 2017 Chicago Theater Bike Ride on Sept. 9 Come out to celebrate and support the vibrant Chicago theater community at the third annual Chicago Theater Bike Ride. The Ride was created in September 2014 to memorialize SAG-AFTRA member Molly Glynn, actor and mother of two, with a mission to support fellow artists in times of greatest need. When: Saturday, Sept. 9, 11 a.m., First ride wave at noon. Community potluck barbeque at 1:30 p.m. Where: Foster Beach 5200 N. Lake Shore Drive at the Lake Chicago, IL 60640 The 12-mile bike ride starts at Foster Beach, takes a short loop up to Osterman Beach and then south to the turnaround at North Avenue Beach, ending back at Foster Beach. Register here. Suggested minimum ride donation is $25. Donations of any amount are accepted even if not participating in the bike ride. The 2017 fundraising goal is $15,000 and 200 riders. The ride has had increased donations, ridership and gifts each successive year.

SAG-AFTRA is here to help you learn how to make your brilliant short film. Each session will be on a Monday night from 6 - 9 p.m., and is presented by members of the local independent film community. Here's a sneak preview of this four-week intensive series: Week 1: Scriptwriting, fundraising and budgeting (Oct. 23) Week 2: Selecting equipment, casting, crew hiring (Oct. 30) Week 3: Contracts, locations, production (Nov. 6) Week 4: Post-production: editing and distribution (Nov. 13) These sessions will support you in creating your film. This is a four-week commitment. In week one, we will break into teams of two to four people who will make a two-to-three-minute short film by the end of November. There will be weekly homework and you must attend each of the four sessions. Films created during this series will be for educational purposes only, not for exhibition.
