SAG-AFTRA Conservatory on Self-Taping Jim Dougherty will present his self-taping workshop on Feb. 26. This workshop will be a refresher for those who attended the last one with additional new material - and it's a great opportunity for those just learning to self-tape. You will be empowered to make your setup great! Topics include: Lighting on a budget. Backgrounds and clothing to make you stand out. Utilizing your existing equipment. Getting great sound and capturing great video. Using editing software. Compressing video for EcoCast delivery. Utilizing file transfer services. Travel setups in a carry-on. Utilizing your cell phone. Dougherty has taught this workshop in multiple markets, including Chicago and Atlanta. He is an actor and editor with four IT certifications. He has successfully booked multiple roles via self-tape, including work on Chicago PD, The Inspectors, Killing Reagan and House of Cards. Attention Filmmakers A call for submissions is now open for the new screenplay table reading series At the Table. Deadline for script submissions is today, Monday, Feb. 5. SAG-AFTRA and IFP Chicago are seeking new narrative feature scripts in late-stage script development. This new program was created to support SAG-AFTRA and IFP Chicago members in an effort to spark more high-quality, completed work in the region. Our goal is to forge stronger connections between writers, filmmakers, actors and their respective communities. Eligibility Projects and teams must meet the following criteria:
A key team member must be a member of the SAG-AFTRA Chicago Local or IFP Chicago. The individual or company submitting material must either own or possess all rights contained within the material. If the writer/team is not the owner of the material, they must provide the necessary licenses. Must be a narrative feature in late-stage script development. Able to be produced for less than $2.5 million. More than 50 percent of the filming locations must be in local territory: Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana and the eastern third of Iowa.

SAG-AFTRA to Volunteer at GCFD on Feb. 16 The SAG-AFTRA Chicago Local is returning to the Greater Chicago Food Depository. Join staff and members from 9 - 11:45 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 16. The GCFD is at 4100 W. Ann Lurie Place in Chicago near Midway Airport. Free parking is available. Volunteer opportunities include repacking bulk products to individual/family sizes, assembling boxes with assorted food, checking expiration dates, labeling products, sorting products, etc. Participants must be at least 14 years old. The GCFD is a nonprofit food distribution and training center that provides food for hungry people and strives to end hunger in our community. The GCFD distributes donated and purchased food through a network of 650 pantries, soup kitchens and shelters to 678,000 adults and children in Cook County every year. This event is open to everyone. SAG-AFTRA Announces Its Newly Available Regional Commercial Code SAG-AFTRA Chicago is proud to announce the release of our newly approved Illinois Regional Commercial Code. Rates, terms and conditions apply to commercials produced within Illinois (except Chicago), Wisconsin, Indiana and Eastern Iowa. Commercials may be exhibited within the state produced as well as any neighboring states. All broadcast, cable and internet exhibition is included in one flat four-week, 13-week, six-month or oneyear fee. It's our hope that local and regional advertisers take advantage of this new opportunity to work with SAG-AFTRA members. The CFL will award 10 scholarships valued at $2,000
each to 10 high school seniors. Eligibility * The applicant must be a senior in high school and graduate in the spring of 2018. * Either the applicant or the applicant's parent must be a member in good standing of a CFL-affiliated union. Deadline Completed applications must be received by the Chicago Federation of Labor by 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 14. The Chicago Federation of Labor is located at 130 E. Randolph St., Suite 2600, Chicago, IL 60601. Applications may be dropped off at the office Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Mailed applications must be postmarked by Tuesday, Feb. 13.
