A Letter from The Collective

AS WE SAT AROUND THE TABLE ONE AFTERNOON DRINKING TEA, conversations about diversity, traveling, art, love, family, creation, and more emerged. Diversity around the grid seemed to be the topic that kept resurfacing. We realized at that moment, the Universe was trying to speak to us and we were all ears. These conversations led us each to do our own personal research which resulted in the creation of a group of like-minded people we call The Collective. Sage and Crystals Magazine is a virtual wellness and lifestyle magazine created to support and promote the richness of ethnic and cultural diversity that exists in the Second Life® virtual world. We are proud to deliver to you our inaugural issue, Diversity. We hope to inspire the community at large to try something different and to encourage people across the grid to inte-

grate themselves into different virtual communities that are unlike their own. With an open mind, endeavor to be curious, be bold, be fearless. But, do it with love, compassion, empathy for those souls you meet along the way. Love and Blessings,

The Collective

hen creating this space, I wanted to feel at peace and entirely in my vibe. While cooking, I allow myself to be a vessel for whatever mood suits me. Often dancing while I cook, I allow whatever feels right to go forth. Free yourself when you cook or create and let what is in you come out. I love cooking with items straight from my garden. Being able to grow your own herbs and ingredients takes food up to a whole new level. If you can do it, MAKE SURE YOU DO! There are layers to food. Before you even taste a bite, your senses kick in, allowing you to smell and anticipate what it will taste like. The feel, texture, and aroma of natural herbs are fantastic in the kitchen. In this space, you will see herbs everywhere to give the illusion of flavoring your food from anywhere in the kitchen. The color palette was chosen with a spring/summer feel that draws the eye while pops of color allowed the space to be vibrant and alive. Green stands for balance, nature, spring, and rebirth. It is the symbol of prosperity, freshness, and progress. While yellow stands for optimism, energy, joy, happiness, and friendship. It might also stand for intellect. Using both colors to play off each other allowed high energy in an incredibly organic space. In the world we live in, finding peace can be hard at times, but you must have someplace to recharge and refuel. Hopefully, this inspires you to create a place of your own. I recommend playing with color modifying things and letting yourself be the maestro in your own kitchen. Life can be stressful; make sure that you leave one place in your life to be your sanctuary… -Shanti

Cultivate th

he vibe!

How many times in your life have you wished you slept in nature? I have, and this space lets me do just that. This space, in connection with the kitchen space, is all about cultivating your vibe. Sometimes having an area that encompasses who you are is challenging. As a woman, I can be so

many things at once, a peacekeeper on one end, a freedom fighter with a bat of an eyelash, and a soulful songstress on the next. The best thing about being a woman is knowing that you can be all these things and a lot more. Embrace the flaws and the imperfections in this space. I looked for

my own soulful garden. I love having spaces I can relax in. Escape to a whole new level of self-consciousness. This space is packed with all the little things that make my melanin magic soar! I need music to live, art to escape, and thankfully this space was a perfect

blend of being outside and inside all at the same time. I hope you get inspired to find your own vibe space and let it represent you to the fullest.1 The patterns and colors in this space have a nice blend of everything. Nothing matches too much, yet everything flows together. So, mix it up!

OF THE SEASON

I

t’s that time to feel alive! For some, Spring and Summer are the most exciting seasons of the year. When fruits and vegetables are harvested during their normal seasons, we have a chance to enjoy and appreciate their true deliciousness that can arouse the soul and taste buds. You don’t have to be a professional real-life gardener to grow your own produce. They are in abundance at local merchants. However, on the grid, there are many talented creators that have expertly mimicked some of our favorite varieties to include on your in-world tablescapes. Here are some real-life health benefits to a few of this season’s available fruits, vegetable, and herbs that you can add to your shopping list -

Artichoke Artichokes are low in fat and full of fiber and rich in iron, magnesium, and potassium They contain antioxidants and are full of beneficial vitamins C and K. Great on salads with olive oil and in dips.

Avocados Touted as highly nutritious, avocados are higher in potassium than bananas and contain vitamins B-6, C, E, and K. Avocados also contain omega 3 fatty acids which are helpful and can lower the risk of heart disease, depression, dementia, and arthritis. They can be added to salads or eaten alone. Mashed, avocados are great on whole-grain toast.

Carrots It’s true! Carrots are great for the eyes because they contain lutein, which protects the retina and helps improve overall eye health as we age. They are a great source of fiber, Vitamin A, K, beta carotene, and potassium. Weight loss friendly, carrots are also said to help lower cholesterol. Try them in your smoothie, oven-roasted, raw with hummus, or toss a few in a salad.

BLACKBERRIES Blackberries pair well with yogurt or granola, salads, and dessert. For a yummy treat, try tossing a few blackberries on an open-faced peanut butter sandwich. This superfood is high in antioxidants, magnesium, calcium, potassium and rich in vitamins A, C, and E. It’s also packed with so many health benefits including the ability to boost brain health and immunity along with reducing your risk of heart disease and cancer.

Herbs - dill & mint Dill is used in many dishes to enhance flavor. It is especially great in yogurt-type sauces, lamb dishes, and wonderful on smoked or baked salmon. Though dill is generally eaten in smaller quantities, it can assist with eye health and lowering blood sugar to name a few of its nutritional benefits. Mint (peppermint, spearmint, or any of the several other varieties) is a great garnish for summer drinks, adult beverages, and chocolate desserts. Brewed mint tea is absolutely wonderful for an upset stomach or can aid indigestion. A beneficial healthy herb, it is rich in vitamin A and like carrots, mint can also help with eye health.

Five Outdoor Dining Ideas for the

Spring & Summer Season Photographed and written by Amethyst and The Collective

I

t’s the season! The time has come. The clouds are sparse and the sun is warming but gentle. Plants begin to bloom, and, when a gentle wind blows their fragrances become enticing. We all know this signals that internal itch to get outside. How can we not take advantage of outdoor spaces to enjoy an exquisite food spread solo or with good company? Impossible! Whether your outdoor event is in the woods, a nearby local park, backyard, or beach what’s your personal preference? Whatever wonderful space is available to you, the elements remain the same: the smell of the outdoors, a cozy blanket, and appetizing food. Here are five outdoor dining ideas presented by The Collectives to help you plan the perfect outdoor meal -

Charcuterie & Cheese Boards

Charcuterie, a French term, is a collection of cured meats, such as sausages, pâtés, cheeses, olives, crackers, nuts, and various fruits. Although these are the basic items found on charcuterie boards, we encourage you to create your own version of delectables. What speaks to your palate?

Salad, Anyone?

Salads, wine, and french bread can really compliment a spread. Spice up your salads with fruit, herbs, prosciutto, or any toppings of your desire. Salads don’t have to be a leafy base either. Salad bases can come in different forms as well, for example, macaroni, noodles, or beans. Get creative and make a masterpiece!

Finger Foods Dainty finger foods are a popular outdoor dining staple. Cute and decorative tea or pinwheel sandwiches, miniature wraps, or chicken wings are usually the best and easiest. Everything from veggie tortilla wraps to French rolls can be used to create a variety as well. Additions, such as dips and spreads can give a little extra zest to your finger foods.

Fruits

A medley of fruit artfully arranged can make a great centerpiece. Colorful, they add brightness and can really make a table look attractive. Because fruit is easy to prepare and transport it makes for a great option for dining outdoors. Also, cut, chopped, or sliced and displayed in cups or bowls, not only dresses up the table but also gives guests clean and easy access. Serve some in an ice cream or waffle cone (sans the ice cream) for an earth-friendly approach!

S

ometimes we look for an escape within the virtual world. Some of us will take virtual vacations, explore, or immerse ourselves in interactive gaming or role-playing environments. Recently, I decided to spend a few hours at the Tulum Reserve - a beautiful, lush seaside sim.

riences - hangouts, places of relaxation, spots with photo opportunities, and more.

While looking up at the robust trees and admiring the exotic flowers hidden amongst the lush foliage, I stumbled across a tucked-away cave called Cueva de Luz Estelar. Watching my step as I approached When I arrived, my imagination took over. I fanta- the opening of the cave, I looked up and noticed a sized that the air was hot, thick, and moist and no soft glow against the jagged cave walls. In front of matter how much I fanned myself with my hands me lay a calm pool of water a few yards from my to bring some sort of coolness to my face I was un- feet. The cave resembled a night sky without the successful. Further in my daydream, I felt it was invasive light pollution from nearby congested citimpossible to avoid the strands of hair sticking to ies. The magical glow came from plankton residing my lightly dewed back. I tried to gather my hair amongst the cave’s internal surfaces. into a ponytail as I walked along one of the tropical tree-lined wooden paths. The rays of the sun As I continued to explore this beautiful sim, I pierced the trees’ canopy as I walked the windy stumbled upon the breathtaking, wide, and cavernpath of slatted wood that led me to different expe- ous El Cenote, or as some will call it, The Sinkhole.

Neighboring waterfalls streamed against towering rock surfaces which created soft pools of freshwater. Those pools of freshwater fed into flowing creeks which then generated waterfalls that fell from a high altitude and into El Cenote’s basin. I secured my backpack and climbed down a thick leafy vine that hung deep into El Cenote. I thought to myself, “Thank goodness I never missed a day of push-ups and core workouts! Ha!” I gripped the vine, made sure I had the proper footing and climbed down into the mystical abyss below. Looking down while finally coming to the end of my descent, I made a small leap onto a flat rock that hugged the wall of the basin. The beauty of El Cenote was unexplainable but astounding. Below where I stood, I could imagine that the chilled

crystal waters reflecting the vibrant colors from the coral reef were spectacular. I followed the water with my eyes and saw that El Cenote had a wellsized opening that led out to the sea. The sun was beginning to hang low in the sky and tuck itself behind the ocean’s horizon. Although I wanted to stay and get lost in the soft and ambient sounds that echoed throughout this spacious sinkhole, I knew that my day visit was coming to an end. I quickly snapped my pictures and took one last deep breath. I couldn’t leave this extraordinary sim without visiting the Mayan ruins located on the opposite side of the sim.

I

had the great pleasure and privilege of interviewing Luis Lockjaw of Templemore City, a beautiful location he co-owns with Gracie Sixpence. I’ve known Luis since the beginning of my Second Life® adventure and watched his talent develop over the years. As we settled onto a bench in front of a beautiful memorial for his dear friend, Garret Lutz, I read this touching statement in his profile Beyond the iron wrought gates and stone sculptures that usher you past the brick archway, lies Lutz City of Templemore. True to its name, you’ll find yourself immediately immersed in a whimsical world reminiscent of Peter Pan and Hogwarts. But Lutz City goes beyond that. Here your imagination can be engaged in a place and time that defies the limitations of such concepts. Every detail of Lutz City tells a story, every building creates a unique experience. As a celebration of art, Lutz City continues the Templemore tradition of offering the greatest musical experiences. Do you have a lot of photographers that come and take pictures here? I see where the sim has cute little nooks that are great for pictures! If so, do you have a social media group like Flickr where people can tag Templemore in their pictures? To be honest, I have no idea who visits here and what they do! If and when people do visit, I’d like for them to put their photos in our Flickr, Discord, or Facebook group. We also have a website and I believe my team may have added additional social media outlets. Tell me about Templemore City’s amazing venue? Our grand Lutz Theater venue is our iconic stage. It is where we have big shows. This venue is probably the only venue I have repeatedly used after rebuilding sims. It was Garrett Lutz’s favorite venue. He used to stand on the rooftop and oversee the sim from there or just hang out. He is missed by many.

We construct other stages too for different events but those stages come and go. This one is permanent. What type of entertainment can be seen at the Lutz Theater and other venue areas that you build within Templemore City? We primarily host live music entertainment. The shows seen here are either live full bands, solo artists, musicians, or track artists. We support it all! Recently, the staff has hosted game nights and soon will also have movie nights. I’m not sure of the dates yet but they have had game nights once a month. Movie night is coming soon. I know that ballet, opera, and dance performances are very popular on the grid along with live music. Do you think that could ever be something that would come to the Lutz Theater or any of the venues that you build in Templemore City?

I think if it catches my eye then I’ve been to many performances we will try to feature it, but as

of now, we stick to only live music. But you never know. If something we come across is good and our team wants to give it a chance, then we will have it. Unless my Gracie says she wants it then we must have it! Wonderful! I was able to experience a few performances here and fell in LOVE with some of the artists that performed. Amazing talent! I love how everyone here works together, thus what you were telling me earlier about the story of Templemore.

To be seriously honest, Templemore was not built for it to evolve into anything - it was built to give people a place to tell us and show us their story on stage. I cannot wait to see what magical manifestation comes from your collective brains! Luis, I am extremely grateful and honored that you were able to set some time for me to be able to interview you. Thank you so much. I am excited for people on the grid to visit Templemore City. It has so much to offer. It is because of people like you and your team, that we have access to such amazing talent on the grid. I am honored too. I usually shy away from interviews, but this was great!

Center for Learn An Interview

r Mindful ning with Cythe

After a beautiful evening meditation with Dann, a meditation guide at the Center for Mindful Learning, I wiggled my toes and settled my spirit back into my body as I sat on the firm floor cushion. I inwardly exclaimed, “Woah, that was excellent!” At that moment I knew there was something magical about this place. Once our meditation session was over, people quietly stood up, gathered their belongings, and silently exited the center. A few more sat statuesque on their pillows as if the session was continuing only to come out of meditation when they were ready or just to stay because, well, it was such a calming place to be. I wondered how could anyone want to leave this place so hastily, especially while the transcendent meditation music softly pulsated in the background. You could also hear the sounds of trickling water from the creek next to the cen-

ter. With eyes closed, you could sense the chill of the water as you heard it dance against its rock bed in rhythm with the soft clinking of the wind chimes. The ambiance was palatable. I stood up slowly, reached for my flip-flops, and tiptoed out towards the lounge area, careful not to disturb those who were still basking in the ethereal light of their experience. I made my way out to the lounge to meet with Cythe (known in-world as cytheria.teardrop), the owner of this beautiful center. My eyes landed on several neatly hung reminders - a mindfulness checklist and several spiritual affirmations. One, in particular, caught my eye. It read, “Do not feel lonely. The entire universe is inside of you.” I smiled inwardly and sat next to her eager and honored to begin our interview.

Well, Cythe I feel so honored that I get to sit down and interview you. Again, thank you so much for inviting me to your space!

I love this concept! The center seems to have many things to offer. Tell us more! The center now offers regular guided meditations, workshops on various mindfulness topics - Tai Chi, Qiigong, and stretching exercises. I’ve been to Tai Chi at the center and I really enjoyed it. What I loved about the class was that I was able to get up and physically participate. I did some of the moves and felt like I was physically there. That is great! I plan to lead some of the Qigong and Tai chi classes in the future Does the Center for Mindful Learning offer any counseling services as well or life coach support? No, we do not have any formal counselors on staff as guides here. We also do not offer medical services. However, many of our practices have research that shows how mindfulness is good for mental and physical health. As far as life coaching, it is possible to find life coach support here. I am trained as a life coach and likely other guides are as well. I will follow up on that. Wonderful, Please keep us informed. I think there are some people that would really like to explore those services. What are the hours of the center? We keep the center open 24/7 so it is always available for private mediation or to listen to relaxing music. Looking into the future, even though we are supposed to stay in the present moment, would you say that the Center for Mindful Learning will likely be expanding?

It seems to keep growing in popularity, and now we have expanded physically over the full sim. I am sure we will continue to add more guides and classes, but not likely more locations. We just added a wonderful guide who is available to serve those in Asian time zones. These services are offered on Sunday mornings with a focus on hypnosis and relaxing meditation. Our blog is the best place to check the calendar and announcements about classes.

As my conversation with Cythe came to an end, I thanked her for her time and for her commitment to holding a space for us in-world. We could all benefit from the teachings and also the level of peace and tranquility that exists at the Center. I even felt a sense of internal peace as we left each other’s presence. Mindfulness is just one technique of the ever-growing, ever-evolving field of mind-body practices. In our real lives, many of us use meditation, tai chi, yoga, massage therapy, or even acupuncture to try to achieve inner balance. Or, we may use a variety of techniques as a way to strengthen the mind which can have a positive healthy effect on the body. You can find some of that when you visit the Center of Mindful Learning - the Center of Mindful learning. Check out their calendar here -

In the last few years, diversity and inclusion have been at the forefront of conversations in real life, within the media, corporate organizations and interpersonal conversations. It’s also important to acknowledge the importance of diversity in the Second Life® virtual world as much as we do in real life. It affects how we socialize, integrate and relate to one another. Our grid is a beautiful platform where one can meet someone across the world and nurture beautiful connections--we are a global community and we should cherish that. It’s easy to slip into comfortability in any environment especially on this platform but we ask you today to expand your network and tribe, and get to know others from other backgrounds and cultures. We are all multi-faceted beings--friends, lovers, parents, children, coworkers, and so on. Surely, you will always be able to see we have much more in common at a deeper level than the physical things that differentiate us.

Yoga Poses for Computer Users

any of us tend to sit for hours behind desks and aimlessly stare at our computer screens. Whether it be gaming, creating, blogging, vlogging, or writing, sitting for long periods can be strenuous on different parts of our bodies. Here are a few asanas or yoga poses that may help release the tension you may feel from sitting too long. With disciplined practice, these asanas could provide positive long-term effects. Child’s Pose - Sanskrit: Balasana When we breathe, we are not conscious of it and we’re not usually breathing into the trunk of our bodies. Child’s Pose (Balasana) gives us this chance. Gently kneel on the floor, allow your big toes to touch, and sit on your heels. Separate your knees hip-width apart and lay your torso between your thighs. Your arms can either line up with your torso and with palms up, or they can lay forward. Advanced Cobra Pose - Sanskrit: Purna Bhujangasana The Cobra pose can be beneficial for stretching the spine and chest throughout the day. Even though this asana can promote flexibility to the spine and open up the pectoral muscles, it could cause back pain if not done correctly. First, lay flat on the floor belly

down. Stretch your legs back, place the tops of your feet on the floor. Place your hands on the floor and under your shoulders. Elbows should hug into your body. Once you are positioned, push your torso up and into position. Downward-Facing Dog - Sanskrit:

Adho Mukha Svanasana The Downward-Facing Dog pose is a popular pose within the yoga community. Downward-Facing Dog strengthens our core, tones arms, and reinforces the shoulders. This pose also elongates the hamstrings and extends the calves, resulting in a delicious full-body stretch. Starting off on all fours and aligning

your arms and legs hip-width, tuck your toes under, spread your fingers with hands flat on the floor, inhale and push your hips back and up. At this point, your knees should be up off the ground. They can be slightly bent until you are able to straighten them fully. This may take some practice. Make sure to check your foot placement.

Self-Care Diary:

Skin Care - Facial Roleplay

R

ecently, there has been a small surge of products dedicated to facial care on the grid. Facial masks to moisturizers and even cold sliced cucumbers for the eyes are available to decorate your avatar and we are here for it! Roleplay spa treatments at resorts and quick getaways have incorporated products made specifically for facials and other skin care experiences. People can’t seem to get enough of indulging in the experience. When we feel tired and burned out, it’s your body’s way of saying time out! Caring for yourself is important to feel renewed, refreshed and rejuvenated. One way that we can give ourselves selfcare is by taking care of our skin. Taking time out of your day to tend to the body’s largest organ can feel like a task, but caring for your skin daily is a way to create a healthy habit and, well, it just feels nice!

Tips and Tricks for your Roleplay Experience: 1. Always cleanse your face first with system water and a gentle mesh cleanser before applying your face mask. 2. Next, apply a mesh toner or micellar water to help remove any additional dirt and impurities. 3. BOM/Applier Facial masks should be added to your routine once or twice a week. 4.Moisturize with a mesh moisturizer depending on which BOM/Applier mask you used. Clay masks can be drying. 5. Voila! *Note: Do not forget to apply sunscreen to your neck and face every day!*

Jordie B. Hendrix is an upcoming, phenomenal blogger who has a style that reflects her passion for style and roleplay in Second Life®. Through her images, she presents a youthful, neo-cyberpunk style that we just love. Personable and friendly, be sure to say hi to her if you see her on the grid! Check out her blog here.

I’m willing to try and do anything new as long as it’s fun. I mean, I am a Leo after all!

I just love blogging, taking pictures, and getting dressed up in Second Life ®. I got started blogging because I’ve always had a ‘passion for fashion’ as cliché as that sounds, it’s true! I started off with random pictures and then it blossomed into what Here’s what Jordie had to say when we asked her it is now. Frequently, I’ve been asked where I’ve about her passion to create and her blogging style - gotten certain clothing items, or sometimes people want to know how I take nice pictures. Although I consider myself to be outgoing and friendly and there is always room for me to grow and learn, I’m

not perfect but I think overall I am pretty decent at my craft. One of my proudest achievements would be when Second Life® followed me on all of my platforms. They had me listed as a featured blogger. That was amazing! My style derives from the various types of roleplay that I participate in from time to time. It changes daily. I may be roleplaying at Hogwarts and then another day I can roleplay a cyber sex bot working at a next-level strip club. The list goes on and on. For me, it’s all about imagination and creativ-

ity that drives my passion for memorializing these moments through pictures. I enjoy styling myself according to a theme and I want to tell a story through my photography. Additionally, as a woman of color, I wanted to show that style can go beyond the average urban/ street fashion that’s so popular today. Through my pictures, I love showing that it’s okay to be and do something different.

Tarot Astrology with Ametrine

Our Tarot Zodiac for Summer 2021 -

Aries Are you allowing yourself to be open for miracles to appear in your life? If not, why not? Are you holding on to what no longer serves you? Change your thoughts and leave your conditioned behavior or baggage behind. Stop preparing for doom and gloom, or trouble ahead and misfortune which is all fear-based behavior. Practice transitioning your thinking into letting go of fear and stop dragging past experiences forward. Step ahead into the unknowable knowing that you are divinely protected. You may find the answers to the positive things you’ve been trying to manifest.

Taurus Have you been in a gambling mode or maybe had a few things that didn’t materialize? Don’t give up, Taurus! There is something BIG for you on the horizon. You will have a lucky encounter that will lead to a blissful moment or event. Perhaps it’s that promotion or that love interest that you’ve been eager to have come to fruition. Whatever it is, be prepared to receive it. However, it does come with one caveat. You have to be open and co co-create with Spirit because this opportunity that will come to you is going to be significant!

Gemini Are you in the “in-between” and feeling not quite comfortable or sure what’s next? Well, dear Gemini, those seeds you planted some time ago are about to bloom and blossom into something extraordinary for you. Be forewarned - it’s not going to be what you envisioned but, it will be what you need. Being in the “in-between” isn’t comfortable, but the lesson here is to explore the energy that exists in this stage. Rushing a result is not going to help you get what you want, so take the time to sit still in anticipation. Remember how you felt as a child waiting for the ice cream truck?

Cancer Take a deep breath and stop taking everything so seriously! Being so austere and business-like is robbing you of your ability to see things joyously. Make laughter your first order of the day and not your to-do list. Yes, things will get done but you need to let loose and invite some playfulness into your life. Take a moment and celebrate your life and all the wonderful people and blessings that surround you. This is a way to invite more wealth, more love, more abundance plus the deliciousness of unexpected generosity that is sure to come your way. Embrace your child-like, lighthearted side, Cancer because this will open your heart up to some miraculous surprises!

Leo So, Leo? Well, it’s time for you to be open to giving and receiving help in all forms. Relationships of all kinds require a dance that includes alignment, interdependence, trust, and support. Choosing to go it alone is not going to be beneficial for you right now. You can still stick to your program while securing a strong foundation for yourself but know at this time you may be offered unexpected assistance to get where you are going. Why not take it? Gifts from the Universe come in a multitude of ways, so don’t rule out things that are unfamiliar. You may be surprised!

Remind yourself that it’s ok to be a nonconformist or to walk to your own drumbeat without judgment. Your tribe will provide you that comfort. The lesson is to move towards your calling and you can do that freely in an environment that is as cozy as a blanket.

Capricorn If you're feeling overwhelmed or mired down in disorganization and conflicts of all types, it is now time for doing some internal and external housecleaning. It is energetically interfering with you moving into being more of your authentic self. During this season, spend time getting yourself and your surroundings in order. In addition, clean up any current conflicts or disagreements with those close to you. You don’t need to concern yourself with being right as you work on the issue. You just need to be over it so you can allow your blessings to flow after you remove this blockage.

Aquarius Do something unfamiliar, different. Explore new ways of thinking and doing. If you are seeking that comfortable spot or way of being now is the time to create a new normal. Sticking to things that are too familiar to you will not get you the results that you seek. You’ll either get more of the same or be so closed off to anything new that is seeking you that would be the comfort your spirit needs. Be curious and unafraid, dear Acqu.
