Bands

Intermediate Band

This group is perfect for people who have little or no experience of playing in a group. You’ll learn new repertoire as well as how bands work and learn together. This band is suitable for people in the absolute beginner classes as well as those with a little more confidence.

For people who feel reasonably confident on their instrument and are ready for a step up into a performing band. The Intermediate Band produces more complex arrangements and studies more challenging repertoire than the Basic Band. The group will be divided up into three classes on the first week of term.

Band with Song

Band by Ear

Basic Band

Whether new to folk or confident in the genre, if you like singing with instruments then this is the group for you. Previously this class has featured songs by acts such as Show of Hands, Bellowhead and Kate Rusby. You can sing, play or do both. Harmony Band

This is for anyone who would like to explore harmony singing. The group will use instrumentation as well as vocals to create harmonyfilled arrangements of folk songs. The group is for beginner or intermediate level instrumentalists who would like a new challenge.

Advanced Ceilidh band

Whether you’re a chord or melody player you’ll explore what makes a great ceilidh band how to provide lift and groove and to work for each ceilidh dance specifically.

An intermediate band with a twist. No notation will be given out for this ensemble. The aim of the ensemble is to develop aural and ‘learning by ear’ skills whilst arranging music in a band setting. Everyone will have a part to play in the arrangements and it’s advised to bring a small recording device so you can practise at home. Advanced Band

Fast tunes, emotive and evocative arrangements and lots of fun. Some learning is done aurally and some with notation and the group will be divided into two bands on the first week of term.
