Sai Kung Cub Scouts farewell to retiring Akela and Grizzly Caps off and a deep bow to Sai Kung Cub Scout leaders Clare “Akela” Fisher and Ellen “Grizzly” Hobson, who are retiring after six years leading Sai Kung’s scout group. To mark their departure a traditional “Wolf Howl’’ was held at twilight by the flagpole overlooking Hebe Haven. A new leadership team continues the work: including Kathy Brewin, Gill Prior, Linsey Irvine and Catalina Abel, Shermon Joy, Ged Finlay, Aaron Goach, Sean Prior, Winnie Chan and Delian Gaskill. Sai Kung’s 299th East Kowloon scouting group was established way back on 1st November 1979. The group provides weekly outdoor adventuring and hall activities for youth members aged from seven to seventeen years old: 20 Beavers, 28 Cub Scouts and 40 Scouts. It is based at the Pak Sha Wan scout centre. The volunteer-run scout group has flourished over the years, leading activities ranging from camps, climbing trips, beach clean up’s, trail hike support and other community service as well as international expeditions to far flung places such as Nepal and the Lake District. “Nothing beats toasting smores over an open fire in Sai Kung’s great outdoors!” said outgoing group scout leader, Ellen “Grizzly” Hobson. “Scouting embraces outdoor activities, physical pursuits, endurance, confidence, kindness, and

an all-important service to the community.” For membership enquiries, contact Winnie Chan at 299membership@gmail.com
