After the perpetrator realised he had been spotted by residents, he ran off without entering the home. He was subsequently apprehended by the police and was found to be homeless, in possession of Viagra tablets and in search of food. He has since been charged.
Heat Sensitive A 48-year-old man was taken ill with heatstroke on September 11 while hiking with a friend on Jin Island. As he was unable to walk, his friend contacted the police and he was airlifted to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital. He subsequently made a full recovery.
Love Story A 20-year-old man was chatting with someone via an online dating app and agreed to meet her on August 28. After arriving at the Hang Hau MTR rendezvous spot, the man received a WhatsApp message, saying that he would have to pay HK$5,000 before the meeting. He duly bought HK$5,000 worth of online iTunes vouchers and sent them to his “date”. Unfortunately, she never showed up.
Too Good To Be True When an avid gamer aged 49 saw an advert for the hard-to-find PlayStation 5, he thought Christmas had come early. He contacted the advertiser who told him to pay an HK$800 deposit, which he did via AliPay. The PS5 and its seller never materialised. The case is still under investigation..
Job Related Beware scammers preying on the unemployed. A cold call claiming there was a job vacancy delivering mobile phones in Sau Mau Ping hit its mark. The man who got the call happened to be looking for work. He registered his interest and was told to pay HK$4,000 to secure the job, which he did via FPS. The job advertiser was subsequently uncontactable. The case is still under investigation.

Mount Hallowes in Sai Kung Country Park after he had been missing for five days. Hundreds of people had joined the search but efforts were complicated by torrential rain and hail stones. Chief inspector Kong Sze-wan said it was possible Shou accidentally fell down a slope and became separated from his phone. “There were scratches on his body and his legs were fractured,” Kong said. “But we found no suspicious wounds.”
What’s happening at sea Borrowed goods On August 27 a couple were riding on a jet ski near Tai Tau Chau fish farm when the jet ski collided with a fishing vessel. When police were called to the scene they discovered the couple had borrowed the jet ski without permission from the owner. Lightning causes tragedy A man kayaking around Green Egg Island was tragically struck by lightning on the afternoon of September 16. He had been kayaking with his wife when the bad weather hit and unfortunately was pronounced dead at the scene. Another jet ski incident On the afternoon of September 15, an male on an unlicensed jet ski collided with a pleasure boat. Marine police arrived at the scene and the driver was taken to Tseung Kwan O hospital in a conscious state.
Supermarket staff spotted a man stealing a bag of rice at 10pm on August 26. They raised the alarm and the shoplifter threw the rice to the floor and ran off. Although the police arrived on the scene, the man was long gone and a lack of CCTV meant he could not be identified or caught.
RIP Two men, both 25, were out hiking from Pak Lap to Pak Fu Shan on September 11 when they found a man lying unconscious beside the mountain path. The victim, aged 46, was airlifted to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital where he subsequently passed away in the Intensive Care Unit. He had no underlying conditions but his death is not being treated as suspicious.
