Dear Parishioners,
Fr. Eddy, who has been with us for a year, has been assigned by his community to be the pastor of three parishes in Canada. I want to thank him for the ministry he shared with us and, in your name, to wish him much blessings in this new path that God calls him to.
Thank you, Fr Eddy!

A Reflection by Father Anthony
THE CHURCH’S MISSION
As Jesus commissions the Apostles in today’s Gospel, He not only gives them a mission but also provides us with a glimpse of the Church’s mission after His Resurrection. This mission, entrusted to the Apostles, is not just a task but a continuation of God’s work in the world.
The various instructions Jesus gives to His Apostles mirror those given by God the Father to the twelve tribes of Israel before their departure from Egypt in the Old Testament.
• Just like the Israelites, the Apostles are directed to trust entirely in God’s provision and His grace
• Like the Israelites, who set out with no bread, only one set of clothes, wearing sandals, and carrying a staff (cf. Exodus 12: 11; Deuteronomy 8: 2–4), the Apostles are called to rely solely on God
St. Mark, in this Sunday’s Gospel Reading, invites us to perceive the Apostles’ mission, and, therefore, the mission of the Church, as a new exodus. This mission is not just about delivering people from their exile away from God because of sin, but also about leading them to the Promised Land, the Kingdom of Heaven.
Similar to the Prophet Amos in today’s First Reading taken from the Old Testament, the Apostles are not “professionals” who earn their bread by prophesying. They are ordinary men (cf. Acts 14: 15) who were called from their regular jobs and sent by Jesus to be shepherds of their brothers and sisters.
This Sunday we reminded once again of the theme of rejection. The Prophet Amos, mentioned in today’s First Reading, experienced it. And in the Gospel Reading, Jesus warns the Apostles that there will be some who will not welcome them. But, as Jesus reminds us today, the Church is not called to be a successful corporation, but to bear the weight of the responsibility to be faithful to God’s command. With the authority and power given to her by Jesus, the Church proclaims God’s peace and salvation to those who believe in Him, as we sing in today’s Responsorial Psalm.
The Gospel of Salvation, this Word of Truth proclaimed in today’s Gospel Reading, is not a distant proclamation but a personal address to each of us. This is affirmed very clearly by St. Paul in today’s Epistle (2nd Reading). In God’s Divine Plan, we have been chosen from before the foundation of the world to be His sons and daughters and to live for the praise of His glory. Then, let us give thanks to God today for the gift of the Church and all the spiritual blessings He has bestowed upon us through her. And let us resolve to further the Church’s Mission: to help others hear the call to repentance and welcome Christ into their lives.
J Stewards of God’s Gifts
In today’s Gospel, Jesus commissions his disciples to go forth and preach repentance.
Living Stewardship ~ Pillar of Service: We, too, are called to go forth and spread the Word of God to all we meet. Meditate on this quote from Padre Pio: “Do good everywhere, so that everyone can say: This is a son of Christ.”

O Holy Mary, Mother of God, Queen of Heaven and Earth, I humbly beseech you from the bottom of my heart, to succour me in this necessity; there are none that can withstand your power. O, show me herein you are my Mother.
O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee. (3 times)

Prayer Before the Blessed Sacrament
I adore you Jesus, true God, and true man, present in the Holy Eucharist, kneeling before you and united in spirit with all the faithful on earth and all the saints in heaven. In gratitude for so great a blessing, I love you with all my heart, for you are worthy of all praise and adoration. Lord Jesus Christ, may I never offend you with my lack of love. May your Eucharistic presence refresh me in body and soul. Mary, Mother of the Eucharistic Lord, pray for me and obtain for me a greater love for Jesus. Amen.
A Prayer of Faith in The Divine Eucharist
I believe in my heart and openly profess that the bread and wine which are placed upon the altar are by the mystery of the sacred prayer and the words of the Redeemer substantially changed into the true and life-giving Flesh and Blood of Jesus Christ Our Lord and after the Consecration, there is present the true Body of Christ which was born of the Virgin Mary and offered up for the salvation of the world, hung upon the Cross, and now sits at the right hand of the Father and there is present the true Blood of Christ which flowed from his side. They are present not only by means of a sign and of the efficacy of the Sacrament, but also in the very reality and truth of their nature and substance. Amen.
Prayer in Adoration of The Blessed Sacrament I adore You, Bread from Heaven. I adore You, Bread of Angels. I adore You, My Jesus, truly present in the Blessed Sacrament.
(Pause for silent adoration.)
I adore You, Jesus, my true life because You died for love of me. I adore You, Jesus, Divine Light because You show me the way to heaven. I adore You, Jesus, Divine Lamb, Who takes away the sin of the world.
(Pause for silent adoration.)
My God and Savior Jesus Christ, true God and true Man, I firmly believe that You are really and bodily present in the Blessed Sacrament of the Altar. From the very depths of my heart, I adore You.
(Pause for silent adoration.)

Society of St. Vincent de Paul
In the Gospel today we see how Jesus sent his Apostles out two by two. From the beginning of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, members visit in pairs “two by two”, those who are poor and needy in their homes. It is there, in the family setting, that Vincentians listen, offer humble advice, and render assistance. Have you considered answering the call to help serve the poor by joining the Society of St. Vincent de Paul?
Our St. Vincent de Paul Conference is able to help our neighbors in need through the generosity of our St. Mary’s parishioners. Each time you donate, either through the collection slots at the doors of the church, or in an envelope marked for St. Vincent de Paul, you are helping our neighbors within St. Mary’s Parish. If you or someone you know is in need of assistance, contact the St. Vincent de Paul Society at 516-627-0385, ext. 1125, or email SVDP@stmary.ws. To donate furniture, clothing or household items, please call the store in Garden City Park at 516-746-8250. Thank you for your continued support.

Parish Groups Offer Congratulations and Bid Farewell to Father Eddy
A gathering of about fifty people, primarily participants from the recently-formed Book Club and a separate Prayer Group, both moderated by Father Edward Obi, MSP, attended a special Mass of Thanksgiving on Monday, July 1st at Noon, for the 35th anniversary of his ordination to the sacred priesthood of the Church. It was, coincidentally, an event to thank Father Eddy for his time with us as he has received a new assignment from his order. Our new Parochial Vicar, Father Anthony Saliba, concelebrated the Mass. Members of Father’s prayer group and book club came together to observe this wonderful anniversary and gives thanks for his priesthood. A luncheon readied by the two groups was enjoyed after the Mass in the St. John Paul II Room.
After about a year’s service at St. Mary’s, Father Eddy will be heading to his next assignment this weekend. He will supervise the running of four parishes in the nearby suburbs of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, CANADA.
We wish Father Eddy a safe trip to his new assignment. Thank you for leading our two groups in prayer and discussion. Congratulations and farewell, Father Eddy. We wish Father Eddy the blessings of Our Loving Savior now and always.

Good Samaritan House Announces Fall Bereavement Group
A weekly support group for the bereaved and those struggling with unresolved loss will begin on September 14, 2024.
The session will run for ten consecutive weeks on Saturdays from 9:30-11:00 AM. The primary goals of the group are to help the participants learn about the grief process, develop skills to manage their grief, and help them adjust to living in a world without the deceased.
The group is open to anyone who has lost a spouse, partner, parent, or sibling – including non-parishioners and people of other faiths. It should be noted though, St. Mary's bereavement sessions are faith based sessions that at times refer to bible verses or prayers to assist in the healing process.
