A Letter from Father Dominik Two weeks ago, I had the privilege of attending the priesthood ordination of Rev. Stephen Rooney, Rev. Christopher Heller, and Rev. Louis Cona. For so many years, I went to ordinations as a seminarian so this was my first experience going as a priest. It was truly a prayerful experience to see the guys who I had been in seminary with for many years and to see them enter the brotherhood. I can finally say that I am no longer the baby priest! But I am still an infant priest. During the ordination rite, the bishop asks the rector whether he finds these men to be worthy. The rector replies that after inquiring with the Christian people he has found them to be worthy. Shortly after, the men prostrate themselves on the floor of the cathedral and the Litany of Saints is chanted by the choir and the congregation. For me, it is the most moving experience because it is an act of humility. The word humility comes from the Latin root humus which means earth or ground. To be humble is to be grounded in reality and recognizing our lowly state. Even though these men have been found worthy, we know as priests that deep down how weak and broken we are. The act of prostration is that act of humility which reveals our lowliness before the grace of God. We know as priests that we cannot do it alone and so we ask the intercession of the saints and the Church to give us the strength to live out the vocation of priesthood. The ordination of these men also marks the one-year anniversary of my own priesthood. All of you have been a great gift to my life. I am grateful to God for allowing me to be your priest. To celebrate baptisms, weddings, funerals, and school Masses are true blessings. But the greatest honor, the reason I became a priest, was for the sacrament of the Eucharist. The Eucharist is the source and summit of my life and if the only thing I share with you is my passion and belief in God’s presence in the Blessed Sacrament, then it will be a priesthood well lived. The schools have also been an awesome experience for me. This past year, I went with the 8th grade class to Camp Getaway and I went on the Italy Pilgrimage with St. Mary’s High School. Fr. Bob always jokes that I must think priesthood is one big field trip. I am grateful to Fr. Bob for allowing me to go on these trips. It was a beautiful experience to share those moments with the kids who I know will never forget their experience and I will certainly never forget. After one year, I can say that I am truly happy to be a priest and I pray that I can continue to grow and serve you. I know I made mistakes as a new priest, but I am still learning and adapting. I am excited to see what more God has in store for us which will be for his Glory. Please pray for me as I have prayed for you and pray that God may call and send more priests into his vineyard. - Father Dominik

FOCUS Friends Offering Care Understanding and Support A St. Mary’s ministry for widowed, single and divorced parishioners The FOCUS group is back post-COVID and planning some great gatherings! Interested in a luncheon with a fabulous Elvis impersonator, a Christmas luncheon, or a play and dinner outing on Long Island? These are just some of the events planned for the coming year! We are also having a monthly game day where people can play Canasta, Bridge, Mahjong, Scrabble and more. If you are interested in joining this group or participating in these outings, please contact Esther Merkiewicz at 516320-5879 (epmark416@aol.com) or Bill Urig at 516-627-4282 (dorisbilljag98@aol.com). We hope to see you soon!
New Bereavement Group Seeks Volunteer Facilitators The Parish Social Ministry Office is looking for two volunteers who may feel God’s call to facilitate a Bereavement Group for the parish. Volunteers would be properly trained over a couple of weeks starting in September by Dr. Lou Sabatini. Those being trained would attend a one hour training session and then attend an hour actual bereavement session following the training. Once volunteers are trained, we will hold a bereavement session at St. Mary’s for those who suffer from loneliness and sadness after the loss of their lovedones. Our bereavement session (running eight weeks, one hour and fifteen minutes per week) could be on any day of the week that works for the facilitators. The facilitators could share the responsibility of the sessions so the time commitment could be a little less. The volunteers do not necessarily have to be people who have suffered the loss of someone close to them, but do have to be individuals who would be able to empathize with those who have. If anyone is interested in volunteering to facilitate this very important session allowing us to build this critical ministry, especially post-COVID, please reach out to Kathleen Kosciusko at kkosciusko@stmary.ws or at 516-365-2705.
Parish Social Ministry Reaches Out to the Elderly and Homebound The Elderly and Homebound Ministry provides a social connection between the parish and the one in need. If you are interested in being contacted by our volunteers, please call the Parish Social Ministry office at 516-365-2705. The Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time | July 3, 2022
Religious Education Registration Is Now Open for St. Mary Religious Education Program (2022-2023) Dear Families, It is so wonderful to invite you to now register your children for the St. Mary Religious Education Program (2022-2023). We are resuming in person catechesis as well as continuing to offer the optional model of online lessons. To enroll, visit the Religious Education page on the St. Mary parish website. Starting in September 2022, classes for grades 1-8 will be held on Sunday (9:15 – 10:15 AM), on Monday for grades 6-8 (7:00 – 8:00 PM), and on Tuesday for grades 1-5 (4:30 – 5:30 PM). It is always heartwarming to hear a person share the memory of someone who has made an impact on their life. Frequently, they will talk about a teacher who taught them something that made an impact on how they see the world. In sharing Christ’s Gospel to our young Catholics – this can be you! We are in need of Catechists and program volunteers with a devoted knowledge of Scripture and doctrinal teachings of the Catholic Church. Please do consider serving the parish as a Catechist, assistant or hall/traffic monitor. To join our growing school, please contact the Religious Education Office at 516-627-4028 ext. 1127. Have a wonderful Summer! Mrs. Granieri

Society of St. Vincent de Paul In the Gospel today we see how Jesus sent his Apostles out two by two. In this spirit, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul members “go out two by two” to visit those who are poor and needy in their homes. It is there, in the family setting, that Vincentians listen, offer humble advice, and render assistance. Know that the members of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul bring your gift directly to the poor and suffering in our parish. Our St. Vincent de Paul Conference is able to help our neighbors in need through the generosity of our St. Mary’s parishioners. Each time you donate, either through the collection slots at the doors of the church, or in an envelope marked for St. Vincent de Paul, you are helping our neighbors within St. Mary’s Parish. If you or someone you know is in need of assistance, contact the St. Vincent de Paul Society at 516-627-0385, ext. 1125, or email SVDP@stmary.ws. To donate furniture, clothing or household items, please call the store in Garden City Park at 516-746-8250. Thank you for your continued support. Church of Saint Mary | 8
Rosary Society Our Mission Statement: The Rosary Society fosters devotion to Mary through prayer and good works for causes that would be dear to her heart Invest 20 minutes of your day to pray the Rosary, and see the difference it will make in your life. If you would like the Rosarians to pray for a special intention, please e-mail us at rosarysociety@stmary.ws.
Praying the Rosary As we pray the rosary we meditate on the events of Our Lord’s life and Passion, which are called Mysteries. The repetition of the prayers assists in this prayerful meditation. The rosary, in essence, is a compendium of the Gospel and leads us, through the intercession of Our Lady, to contemplate Jesus Christ.

Exposition and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament Consecration of America on Independence Day Immaculate Mary, most Holy Mother of God and of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, we the people of the United States of America at this historic moment stand before you in a humbled condition of love, loyalty, affection, and thankfulness. To your Immaculate Heart we recommit and dedicate ourselves throughout the entire American nation. To your Son Jesus Christ we pledge to serve His teaching, His church, and to work for His kingdom on earth. O Mary, to you do we flee for protection. Surround the American family with your maternal care; enfold us in your arms. Give to this American land, built on the blood and tears of so many faithful forebears, a peaceful and praiseworthy existence in truth, love, justice, and freedom.
Exposition and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament with Benediction Mondays 3:00 - 5:00 PM
O Mary, we submit to you as the Patroness of our beloved country. O Mary, Help of Christians, enfold the Holy Father and the Catholic Church within your protective cloak; be our shield in the days ahead. Give to the Church true holiness and freedom. Obtain for our leaders holy zeal, the ability to face the truth, and the courage to correct all abuses. Stop the flood of atheism, greed, heresy, impurity, lukewarmness, materialism, and selfishness that threaten our nation. Show to those who have strayed from the Church the way to Our Lord Jesus Christ. Mother of God, accept our personal consecration to you and, through you, bind us forever to the Holy Trinity. Gather us all into your Immaculate Heart and unite us forever with Jesus. O Mary, we love you.
Respect Life Ministry In Gratitude, We Continue Our Prayers On the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, we received the news that the U.S. Supreme Court issued its decision in Dobbs v. Jackson, stating: Abortion presents a profound moral question. The Constitution does not prohibit the citizens of each state from regulating or prohibiting abortion. Roe and Casey abrogated that authority. We now overrule those decisions and return that authority to the people and their elected representatives. In New York State, we have much work ahead as we try to develop a culture of life through peaceful, prayerful and compassionate, loving witness. May we increase our prayers now especially for those women over the past 49 years whose minds were swayed by the prior court decision into thinking that ending their unwanted pregnancy was the right and just solution. Our diocesan Office of Human Life, Family, and Bioethics asks that we pray in thanksgiving for this victory for life, for all those considering abortion, those who have participated in abortion and their healing, for the safety of the Justices and their families as well as churches, pregnancy care centers and all who bear witness to God’s gift of life, and for the road ahead. See the link to a pastoral letter by Bishop Barres at right.

O Most Holy Trinity, Who deigned to raise Venerable Anthony Vincent Gallo to the priesthood, and endowed him with precious gifts, especially that of a burning love for suffering and immolation, we humbly beseech You, if it be Your will, that he may be glorified on earth, and that we may obtain through his intercession the particular grace which we ask for with living faith. Amen.
We come from different places, backgrounds, and all stages of life. But the common thread is our Catholic faith. We are Catholic families seeking to improve ourselves and the world.
