A Refection by Father Anthony

My dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:

“I am among you as one who serves.” (Luke 22: 27)

Today, as I step into the role of your new Associate Pastor here at St. Mary’s, I am reminded of the profound words our Lord shared with his apostles on the night of the Last Supper. In the Gospel of Luke, Jesus spoke these words to the Apostles after the institution of the Sacrament of the Eucharist, emphasizing that their ministry and vocation are always in service to the Eucharist and the People of God gathered around it.

Terefore, I embrace the role of Associate Pastor in this beautiful Parish of St. Mary’s, Manhasset, with great joy. I am deeply grateful to Bishop John for entrusting me with this responsibility and to Father Bob for his invaluable guidance and support during my frst days here at St. Mary’s.

Allow me to share a bit about my journey. Like other priests who have served this Parish Community in the past, I was born on the tiny island of Malta, of the coast of Italy, a place rich in history and faith. In Rome, I studied Fine Arts and Design. Following my priestly ordination in June, 2001, I furthered my studies in Sacred Teology and Art. My service to the Church, particularly in Catholic Education in the Ambrosian Diocese of Milan, has shaped my understanding of our Faith and the importance of the Parish Community.

My journey in the Diocese of Rockville Centre began in September, 2016 when I was assigned as Associate Pastor to the Parish of St. Raphael in East Meadow. After fve years of service there, I moved to the Parish of St. Rose of Lima in Massapequa, where I spent these last three years. Two years ago, I also incardinated myself as a priest of this Diocese. Now, as I transition to your Parish dedicated to the Blessed Mother, I am flled with anticipation for the growth we will experience together in Christ and the relationships that will enrich our community.

Today, I sincerely ask for your prayers as I do my best to serve you as one of your priests. I promise to pray for you and to accompany you as we live and share our beautiful Catholic Faith. Relying on the prayers of the Blessed Virgin Mary, let us begin this journey together.

Tank you for your warm welcome, faith, prayers, and greetings. Your support is invaluable and the foundation upon which I embark on this new chapter of my priestly ministry. May God bless you abundantly for your kindness and generosity!

Fr. Anthony Saliba

Prayer from the Roman Missal

Almighty, and everlasting God, who has appointed your onlybegotten Son to be the redeemer of the world, and has been pleased to be reconciled unto us by His Blood, grant us, we beseech you, so to venerate with solemn worship the price of our salvation, that the power thereof may here on earth keep us from all things hurtful, and the fruit of the same may gladden us forever hereafter in heaven. Trough the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

Exposition and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament

Prayer in Full Faith

- St. Tomas More (1478-1535)

Give me, good Lord, a full and fervent charity, a love of you, good Lord, incomparable above the love of myself;

and that I love nothing to your displeasure but everything in an order to you. Take from me, good Lord, this lukewarm fashion, or rather this cold manner of meditation and this dullness in praying to you. And give me warmth, delight, and life in thinking about you. And give me your grace to long for your holy sacraments and specially to rejoice in the presence of your blessed body, sweet Savior, in the Holy Sacrament of the Altar, and duly to thank you for your gracious coming

Prayer from the Coptic Liturgy

A Prayer for Deliverance

- St. Teresa of Calcutta (1910-1997)

Deliver me, O Jesus,

From the desire of being loved,

From the desire of being extolled,

From the desire of being honored, From the desire of being praised, From the desire of being preferred,

From the desire of being consulted,

From the desire of being approved,

From the desire of being popular,

From the fear of being humiliated

From the fear of being despised,

From the fear of sufering rebukes,

From the fear of being culminated,

From the fear of being forgotten,

From the fear of being wronged,

From the fear of being ridiculed,

From the fear of being suspected.

We thank you, O Lord our God, the true Word, who has loved us and thus gave us yourself as a sacrifce for our redemption, who has granted us life from your holy body and precious blood, and who has made us worthy to partake of them. We confess our sins to you, O God, lover of your creatures, and send them up to you glory and honor and worship with the Father and the Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen.
