From the Pastor’s Desk Dear Parishioners,

“The Spirit enabled them to proclaim that Jesus is Lord.” (Acts 2:4) Each of us, to some degree I am sure, desire to proclaim Jesus as Lord of our lives. The way each of us will live out that proclamation depends on various factors. Our love of Jesus and hope for eternal life will certainly play a factor in how we live that out. So will the knowledge of the Holy Spirit that we have in our lives. Sometimes it’s fear that keeps us from abandoning ourselves to the power of the Name of Jesus. All sorts of anxieties may arise in our minds that can paralyze us from acting in the Name of Jesus. Those fears and anxieties usually arise when we attempt in act in our own power. To rely only on our own abilities is setting us up for failure. Pentecost reminds us of the words of Jesus, “I will send you the Holy Spirit who will teach you everything.” The power of the Holy Spirit is explained as a “wind” that came over the Disciples. That wind is called the “Ruah” or breath of God. In that breath of God is great power. If we remember the account in Genesis of the creation of the world, God breathed upon the waters and made them wellsprings of life. It was the breath of God seen as a wind that parted the Red Sea so the people of Israel could move from slavery to freedom. If we continue to look into the Scriptures, we see that when the prophets spoke, it was under the influence of the power of God. His spirit dwelling within them gave them the knowledge and strength to act as God had called them even in the midst of personal struggle and hardship. The more they relied on the power and “breath” of God, the more they could act in His will. And so it is or should be for us. In our own power we will probably fail, BUT if we are willing to submit ourselves to the power that God has given to us through the Holy Spirit, then things we thought could not be possible can become a reality. To submit to the Holy Spirit we first have to believe that we in fact DO HAVE the Holy Spirit within us. At our Baptism, the Spirit of God came upon us and the Holy Spirit was sealed again at our Confirmation. Secondly, we need to accept and believe that we are loved by God and, because we are loved, the promise of Jesus is given to us. Thirdly, we have to realize that God chooses us even in what we may perceive as our weakness. If we can accept that Jesus has a plan for us, then the Power of the Holy Spirit can and does give us the grace and ability to act in God. But again, we have to be willing to believe and then act on that belief. This is where trust must play a part. Trust that God will accomplish much in us if we are willing to listen to His voice (and you know, of course, that comes from praying the Scriptures and listening in silence). If our hearts are open, the Holy Spirit will truly guide us on this journey. That openness and trust takes work and, most importantly, an ability to “let go” of the control we treasure so much in our lives. So maybe we need to take those first baby steps and not “run” through life, but walk gently, taking steps that are slow, and, at each step, stop and listen to where God is calling us. The journey will be different for each of us depending on where we are in our spiritual journey. Never feel unworthy and NEVER compare your journey with God to someone else’s. God has made us all different and He comes to us in our uniqueness to gently call us to a deeper trust and love for Him. As we hear in the Gospel, “Do not be afraid,” for the God who calls us will give us what we need to live the faith. Just be open to the Power of the Holy Spirit that we have received. We know from the Acts of the Apostles that the Holy Spirit changed the Disciples. BELEIVE it can change us also! Let us celebrate with joy the “Birthday of the Church” and pray for a renewal of our present day Church in light of what Cardinal DiNardo once called “the laceration of the Heart of the Church.” Let us also pray for one another. Please see the bulletin for the Eucharistic Revival initiated by the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops that will begin on June 19th, Corpus Christi Sunday. In Jesus and Mary, Queen of the Apostles, Fr. Bob

This year, the celebration of the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ on Sunday, June 19th, has great significance. On that day, the Bishops of the United States are calling for a three-year grassroots revival of devotion and belief in the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist. The initiative is an expression of desire to see a movement of Catholics across the United States, healed, converted, formed, and unified by an encounter with the Lord in the Eucharist. All Parishioners Are Invited to Participate in a Eucharistic Procession after the 12:00 Noon Mass on Sunday, June 19th

Exposition and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament A Prayer of Adoration to Our Powerful God “God has spoken plainly, and I have heard it many times: Power, O God, belongs to you;” Psalm 62:11 Almighty God, Sometimes I feel like the disciples when they were in the boat, tossed around by powerful winds and fierce waves. But then I remember how the story ends, with your son Jesus speaking peace to the storm. The disciples were amazed, wondering what kind of man this was who could calm a raging storm (Matthew 8:24-27). I adore you because you are the only One powerful enough to quiet the storms in our lives. Exposition and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament with Benediction Mondays 3:00 - 5:00 PM

It’s so easy to get overwhelmed when I’m struck by difficult circumstances. But I don’t have to fear anything as a child of God. All power belongs to you! Thank you Lord for your mighty power at work in my life right now. Thank you also for your Holy Spirit who provides power within me to do the things you’ve called me to do. I will never forget where my source of power comes from. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

Rosary Society Our Mission Statement: The Rosary Society fosters devotion to Mary through prayer and good works for causes that would be dear to her heart Invest 20 minutes of your day to pray the Rosary, and see the difference it will make in your life. If you would like the Rosarians to pray for a special intention, please e-mail us at rosarysociety@stmary.ws.

Rosary Society Closing Mass and Luncheon Wednesday, June 15th 11:30 AM - Rosary in the Church 12:00 Noon Mass Luncheon to follow in the Marian Room Once again, we ask our talented Rosarians to start baking, and provide some delicious desserts. Please let us know if you are able to help with this.

Tips for Praying the Mysteries of the Rosary Tip #3: Ask Mary to guide you. Place your heart in the loving presence of Mary. Allow her to comfort you and love you. Your mind will follow your heart. Remember Mary offers a unique perspective as Jesus’ mother. Nobody see the life of a child the way a child’s mother does - not even the father. In the Rosary we ponder the life of Jesus through the eyes of His mother. This is an incredibly powerful experience if we enter into it fully. - dynamiccatholic.com
