During Lent, Pray the Rosary!

Lent is a perfect time to renew our devotion to Mary as our spiritual mother who cares for us in the midst of challenges and difficulties.

One of the oldest known prayers to Mary is called the Sub Tuum Praesidium (“Under Thy Protection”), which goes back to the third or fourth century... it reads:

We fly to your protection, O Holy Mother of God; Despise not our petitions in our necessities, but deliver us always from all dangers, O Glorious and Blessed Virgin. Amen.

Let Mary be our guide this Lent.- Our Lady in Lent

RCIA and Adult Faith Formation

The RCIA Elect will be prayed over at the 10:30 AM Mass with the third and last of the three Scrutinies. They are looking forward to the Easter Vigil and their reception of the Sacraments of Initiation and complete membership in the Catholic Church. Do keep them in your prayers.

Our Lenten Prayer Group Meets on Tuesday at 1:00 PM in the Msgr. Sharp Library

The Lenten Prayer group meets each Tuesday and prays over the upcoming Sunday readings. They find the Mass to be more meaningful to them through these sessions. We welcome anyone who would like to join in for the remaining weeks.

For more information about RCIA, the prayer group, and other aduly faith formation programs, please contact Sr. Teresa at 516-627-0385, ext. 1010. Her office hours are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM and other times by appointment.

Society of St. Vincent de Paul

In the Gospel today, Jesus says “Whoever serves me must follow me, and where I am, there also will my servant be. The Father will honor whoever serves me.” When we help the poor, we are truly followers of Jesus, servant of the poor. As you place your gift in the Society of St. Vincent de Paul poor box, know that you are a sign of God’s love to those who are suffering, and you give them Easter hope and joy.

Our St. Vincent de Paul Conference is able to help our neighbors in need through the generosity of our St. Mary’s parishioners. Each time you donate, either through the collection slots at the doors of the church, or in an envelope marked for St. Vincent de Paul, you are helping our neighbors within St. Mary’s Parish. If you or someone you know is in need of assistance, contact the St. Vincent de Paul Society at 516-627-0385, ext. 1125, or email SVDP@stmary.ws. Students Dive In for Exclusive Performance in Newly Renovated Auditorium

On Friday, March 8, 2024, The Little Mermaid Jr.’s cast and crew took to the stage again after two incredible shows the previous week held at an offsite location due to construction delays. One week later, we received notification that the stage could now be utilized, so excitedly, plans were made for an encore performance on campus. It was very special for our youngest students in the Early Childhood Program, who were the show’s guests. Students and parents attended the exclusive, first-time performance in our newly renovated Immaculata Hall Auditorium! It was the first time the new stage, lighting, and sound system were used as a soft launch before our future dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony. (More to come about that upcoming event)!

After the show, the students met the entire cast and crew! How magical was that for these enchanted little ones? Great job to the students in the Saint Mary’s Performing Arts Program and Director Brian Stalter!

LENTEN PRAYERS

POINTS FOR THE EXAMINATION OF THE HEART

By the solemn forty days of Lent the Church unites herself each year to the mystery of Christ in the desert. Let us now follow Christ in the “desert” of our hearts and allow ourselves to be enlightened by the light of his grace.

1. Do we believe that the Lenten season is a sign of grace – a sacred sign which renders present the saving value of Christ who fasted in the desert and victoriously asserted his total commitment to the Father’s saving plan?

2. United with Christ, in what ways are we tempted? In what ways are we victorious over evil temptations?

3. In this season of Lent, are we ready to relive with greater intensity the baptismal dynamics of conversion-sanctification? Are we ready to discover more fully the meaning of Christian discipleship, to listen more intently to the word of God, and to practice more assiduously the Lenten works of penance: fasting-prayer-almsgiving?

PENITENTIAL PRAYER

Lord, your sons and daughters stand before you in humility and trust. Look with compassion on us as we confess our sins. Heal our wounds; stretch out a hand of pity to save us and raise us up. Keep us free from harm as members of Christ’s body, as sheep of your flock, as children of your family. Do not allow the enemy to triumph over us, or death to claim us forever, for you raised us to new life in baptism. Hear, Lord, the prayers we offer from contrite hearts. Have pity on us as we acknowledge our sins. Lead us back to the way of holiness. Protect us now and always from the wounds of sin. May we ever keep safe in all its fullness the gift your love once gave us and your mercy now restores. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Parishioners have reported receiving emails appearing to be sent by an email address that includes Fr. Bob’s name and sometimes the name of our church. Typically, the note begins with “Do you have a moment...?” and is a request for money, usually in the form of gift cards. Do not reply to these emails; they are scams.
