Cheerful Catholic Academic Alums Skate in Remembrance of Br. Kenneth
THE SCHOOLS OF ST. MARY
Saint Mary’s High School hosted the Second Annual Brother Kenneth Robert, FMS Memorial Alumni Hockey Game, earlier this spring. Over 30 former Gaels hockey players laced up. They took to the ice at Cantiague Park in Hicksville for the highly anticipated event, including a postgame alum reception at Willistons’ in Williston Park.
The esteemed coaching staff from 1992-1993, including Coaches Joe Trimarchi, Henry Lazar, and Anthony Attanasio, were at the rink to warmly welcome the alum. In a touching tribute to the late Br. Kenneth Robert, players proudly wore their BKR jerseys, symbolizing his enduring influence on the School’s storied Athletic Program.
In a show of support for the returning Gaels, the School’s Chaplain, Father Dominik Wegiel, Principal Gerard Buckley, Director of Admissions Norma Stafford, and Director of Alumni Relations Kiera Walsh were all present at the event. Their presence underscored the collective effort to honor Br. Kenneth Robert and celebrate the rich legacy of the St. Mary’s Hockey Program.
During a post-event interview with the Director of Communications, Eileen Symmons ’86, Coach Trimarchi shared that players from 1972, 1974, and 1993 through 2021 attended and skated. “Eileen, it was like watching 1993 all over again. They still have it! There was a lot of competitive fun and great camaraderie. It was a terrific night to honor those who made St. Mary’s hockey a powerhouse.”
The players’ wives and children filled the stands. Plus many parents returned to see their sons relive their glory days on the ice with the Gaels. Coach further added, “seeing the number of family members in the stands tells you the impact that the School, Br. Kenneth and the coaching staff made on these former students, who are now adults and many with their own families. I can tell you that they are already looking forward to next year’s game.”
Coach Trimarchi was instrumental in getting the alumni game off the ground last year to pay tribute to Br. Kenneth took on the leadership role again this year. “I would like to thank the administration and the Office of Athletics for honoring Brother Kenneth and the players who made the St. Mary’s Hockey Program successful. That’s what that night was all about. I would also like to thank the current St. Mary’s Varsity Team that helped with the setup and breakdown at the venue.”
After some time away, Trimarchi returned to St. Mary’s and once again is the current head coach of the Varsity Hockey Team. He is not shy about sharing his promise to Br. Kenneth to restore the School’s hockey dynasty before his passing in 2022. To honor this promise and to continue Br. Kenneth Robert’s legacy, we encourage you to support the Hockey Program. THE CHURCH OF ST. MARY, MANHASSET HISTORY ARCHIVES PROJECT
YOUR HELP IS NEEDED!
We are still attempting to collect photos, documents, and all kinds of information relating to the history of St. Mary’s, encompassing all aspects of parish activities and ministries, including the Schools of St. Mary’s.
As we look forward to the Centennial celebration of the Elementary School (2026), and the 175th Anniversary of the Parish (2028), our goal is to accumulate not only recent history, but find some missing pieces to fill in the past 170+years.
If you have any of the following from any event, ministry, or of any of the Schools of St. Mary’s, sharing these would be greatly appreciated:
Photos: Celebrations, graduations, sacraments, galas, etc.
Journals, Programs
Announcements (Bulletins not needed)
Newspaper articles
Family remembrances
Information regarding:
The Elementary and High School (s)
Past pastors, priests, nuns, principals, teachers
Clergy & Religious who were parish residents Knights of Columbus, Rosary Society, and other ministries
Any and all of these would be very helpful.
PLEASE NOTE: Any article of information which you wish to be returned can be “digitized” (scanned) and saved, then returned to you. Please include this request with your item with the contact information for its return to you. A box is located in the Parish Office to receive these valuable pieces of our parish’s history.

Confirmation 2024
It is the Church that pours forth the Holy Spirit. We congratulate the baptized faithful Confirmand who received the divine gifts of grace through the sacrament of Confirmation celebrated last week. According to the Catechism, “Confirmation is the sacrament through which the Holy Spirit comes in a special way to enable us to profess our faith as strong Christians, and soldiers of Christ.”
Let us contemplate on the beautiful prayer recited by Bishop Lombardo during the imposition of hands, “Almighty, everlasting God…send forth upon them the Author of the Thy sevenfold Gifts, the Paraclete, Thy Holy Spirit, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and fortitude, the Spirit of knowledge and piety; fill them with the Spirit of Thy holy fear, and sign them with the sign of the Cross of Christ unto eternal life.”
We especially thank Bishop Lombardo and our parish priests, for the celebration of a most beautiful service. Additionally, we are grateful for the sacramental preparation and Catholic teaching led by St. Mary’s teachers, catechists, parents, sponsors, parish staff members, and volunteers.
May God bless our newly Confirmed. Congratulations! - Mrs. Granieri

What is a Knights of Columbus Family?
We are Catholic families building a bridge to our faith.
Our lives, time, efforts, and resources are dedicated to these values: Charity. Unity. Fraternity. Patriotism.
We come from different places, backgrounds, and all stages of life. But the common thread is our Catholic faith. We are Catholic families seeking to improve ourselves and the world. It’s one thing to say who you are. It’s another thing is to live it. Put your values into practice. Become a Knights of Columbus family.

Since May of 2004, neighbors on Hillcrest Avenue have met every Monday to pray Our Lady’s Rosary, asking her intercession for peace — in our world, in our families, and in our own hearts. Praying by phone during the pandemic, this 20-year milestone even includes holy days and holidays! Shown here are parishioners Teddy Bogner, Catherine Dillon, Liliana Madia and Eris Mirante. (R.I.P., original group members Marie O’Connell and Catherine N. Dillon.) For information on forming a Block Rosary, email RespectLife@StMary.ws

Blest are you, Lord Jesus who came to us a little child one of us, flesh and blood to share in our humanity For God so loved the world
ALL: That all might have eternal life.
Blest are you, Lord Jesus who came to us as carpenter and yet in whose creative hands a world was fashioned
For God so loved the world
ALL: That all might have eternal life.
Blest are you, Lord Jesus who came to us as fisherman and yet pointed to a harvest that was yet to come
For God so loved the world
ALL: That all might have eternal life.
Blest are you, Lord Jesus who came to us as teacher and opened eyes to truths that only the poor could understand For God so loved the world
ALL: That all might have eternal life.
Blest are you, Lord Jesus who came to us as healer and opened hearts to the reality of wholeness
For God so loved the world
ALL: That all might have eternal life.
Blest are you, Lord Jesus who came to us as prophet, priest and king and yet humbled himself to take our place upon the cross For God so loved the world
ALL: That all might have eternal life.
Blest are you, Lord Jesus who came to us as servant and revealed to us the extent of his Father’s love for human kind
For God so loved the world
ALL: That all might have eternal life.
Blest are you, Lord Jesus, who rose from the ignominy of a sinner’s death to the triumph of a Savior’s resurrection
For God so loved the world

Society of St. Vincent de Paul
Today as we anticipate the feast of the Ascension we are reminded that Christ’s saving work on earth continues through his disciples…and now through us. When we give to the poor, God indeed pours his love, peace and joy into our hearts, into our lives and into the hearts of those who are poor.
Our St. Vincent de Paul Conference is able to help our neighbors in need through the generosity of our St. Mary’s parishioners. Each time you donate, either through the collection slots at the doors of the church, or in an envelope marked for St. Vincent de Paul, you are helping our neighbors within St. Mary’s Parish. If you or someone you know is in need of assistance, contact the St. Vincent de Paul Society at 516-627-0385, ext. 1125, or email SVDP@stmary.ws. To donate furniture, clothing or household items, please call the store in Garden City Park at 516-746-8250. Thank you for your continued support.
