From the Pastor’s Desk Dear Parishioners.
“As I have loved you, so you should love one another.” (John 13:31-35) St. John speaks so eloquently of the love that Jesus has for us. It should be a comfort to know that no matter where we are in our faith journey or how far we have traveled from the path of Jesus, His love for us is offered as gift to us. Love must play a vital part in the life of a believer. Love is the hallmark and sign of those who have chosen to accept Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior. If we ponder how much we are loved and cared for, it should be a moment of deep contemplation of what path we are traveling. If we have embraced and “believe” that we are loved, it should follow that we want to know more about Jesus and follow His commandment to love one another. In discovering the message, it makes sense that we would want to respond back to the free gift of love by freely walking the path that Jesus offers. When our hearts are open to Jesus, we see that His message is a path to personal freedom and peace. For our own wills, this giving of self to Jesus can be a difficult process. So often our own wills and desires “get in the way.” How often do we know what Jesus asks of us yet find it difficult to bend our wills in submission to His plan and purpose for us? Maybe, it is fear that keeps those walls up; fear of what Jesus will ask of us or fear that hearing His voice may mean that certain parts of our lives or response systems will have to change. But Jesus will never ask anything of us that He, with us, cannot accomplish. So how do we put fear aside? How do we open ourselves to living the will of God? It is through the power of the Holy Spirit, which has been given to each of us at Baptism and Confirmation, that we may be open to hear and believe the message of Jesus. This message promises us peace when we give ourselves to God. Through our own will this is not possible, BUT if we are willing to open ourselves to the power of the Holy Spirit, great things can happen. That power calls us to LISTEN to what Jesus may want of us. Listening is also a difficult discipline, but with practice and silence, it becomes easier. So hear the words of Jesus . . . Do not be afraid . . . . live in His love and be that love to one another. And, as I always encourage . . . READ THE SCRIPTURES so you may know the One you serve. This weekend, we completed all of our First Holy Communion Masses. As always, they were beautiful experiences seeing our young children so excited and so prayerful to receive Our Lord Jesus in Most Holy Communion. It is one of the joys of the life of a priest to celebrate these Masses. I would like to thank all those who prepared our First Communicants, Mrs. Marie Granieri, our Director of Religious Education, assisted by Mr. Joseph von Uffel and the catechists from our Religious Education Program. Thanks to our Catholic School principals, Mrs. Sarah Griffin and Mrs. Theresa Kemp, and the teachers from our School. I am also grateful to the staff of Our Lady of Grace. So many have shared so much to prepare our young people for this next step in their initiation into our Catholic Faith. THANK YOU TO ALL! The month of May is dedicated to our Blessed Lady. I encourage all to honor Our Lady by praying the Rosary during this month. I especially invite families to gather and join together to pray this wonderful and powerful tool to grace.

Stewards of God’s Gifts In today’s Gospel, Jesus gives His disciples a new commandment. Living Stewardship ~ Pillar of Service: Jesus tells His disciples to “love one another.” This may sometimes be easier said than done, but if we make a commitment to do something nice to someone each day, to do a good deed for them, then we will be taking steps closer to God.

WHAT IS A MARY GARDEN? It’s a garden that includes a selection of the many plants that are named after or associated with the Virgin Mary. The tradition of naming flowers after the Virgin Mary began centuries ago. During the Middle Ages missionaries in Europe began to unite plants named after Mary in “Mary Gardens.” Later, gardeners in America picked up the tradition. Generally, the plants represent some aspect of Mary’s clothing, home, or person. Some symbolize aspects of spiritual life. For example, according to legend, the Angel Gabriel was holding a lily when he told Mary that she was to be the mother of Jesus, thus the flowers signify purity and grace. Roses also symbolize Mary as the Queen of Heaven. Other legends about Mary provide additional floral associations. It is said that as Mary cried at the foot of the cross, her tears turned to flowers called Mary’s Tears, or Lily of the Valley. Mary Garden flowers may also include those that use the name “Mary” [such as marigolds]or some version of it in their common names or meaning.(gardeningknowhow.com)
RCIA and Adult Faith Formation The RCIA Candidates Continue Their Mystagogy Period The RCIA candidates are working through the final set of lessons called “Mystagogy.” Mystagogy is constructed to help them to manage their new lives as fully initiated Catholics. They are made aware of various programs and ministries that they can participate in with the parish and how to nourish and grow their faith in their daily life. They explore the many roles open to the laity to see where their own interests, capabilities and spiritual gifts will lead them in the choice of a ministry that fits who they are. Do keep them in your prayers. Sister Teresa can be contacted about our RCIA and other Adult Faith Formation programs at 516-627-0385, ext. 1010. Her office hours are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday between 10:00AM and 4:00PM and other times by appointment.

Exposition and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament Prayers in the Company of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament My child, you need not know how much in order to please Me; only love Me dearly. Speak to Me simply, as you would talk to your mother, if she had taken you in her arms. Have you no one to recommend to Me? Tell me the names of your relations and of your friends; after each name, add what you wish Me to do for them. Do not hesitate to ask a great deal! I love generous hearts who forget themselves for others. Speak to Me with simplicity about the poor whom you want to help, the sick whom you have seen suffer, the sinner whom you would convert, the persons who are alienated from you and whose affection you wish to win back. For all, recite a fervent prayer. Remind Me that I have promised to grant every prayer that comes from the heart, and surely the prayers are heartfelt which we say for those whom we love and who love us. Have you no favors to ask for yourself? Write, if you like, a long list of all your wishes— all the needs of your soul—and come and read it to Me. Tell Me frankly how selfindulgent you are, how proud, how touchy, how selfish, how cowardly, how idle…and ask Me to help you to improve. Poor child! Do not blush! There are in heaven so many saints who had the same faults as you! But they prayed to Me with humility; and little by little, they were freed from their defects.
Exposition and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament with Benediction Mondays 3:00 - 5:00 PM Do not hesitate to ask for the goods of body and mind—for health, for memory, for success in your works, business, or studies. I can give you everything, and I always give when the gifts would make souls more holy. What do you want today, My child? Oh, if you knew how I long to do you good! Have you no plans to interest you? What can I do for you? Do you have any projects that you are working on? Tell Me about them. Do they concern your vocation? What are you worried about? What do you think of? What would you like? Are you planning some pleasure for your parents, your family? What do you wish Me to do for them? Well, my child, go now and resume your daily work. But do not forget the minutes we have shared together. Go now and practice silence, modesty, honesty, patience, charity. Love My mother, who is also your mother, the Blessed Virgin, and return again tomorrow, bringing Me a heart even more devoted and loving. Tomorrow I shall have new favors for you. In My Heart you will always find new love, new benefits, new comforts.

Contributions are devoted entirely to rehabilitation and assistance for veterans, the military and their families. Unit 304 has a close relationship with the Northport VA Medical Center and has helped to fund many programs for our veterans who are homeless or struggling, suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or in need of suicide prevention treatment and support. On behalf of those veterans and military, thank you for your generosity and for caring. The Fifth Sunday of Easter | May 15, 2022

What is a Knights of Columbus Family? We are Catholic families building a bridge to our faith. Our lives, time, efforts, and resources are dedicated to these values: Charity. Unity. Fraternity. Patriotism. We come from different places, backgrounds, and all stages of life. But the common thread is our Catholic faith. We are Catholic families seeking to improve ourselves and the world. It’s one thing to say who you are. It’s another thing is to live it. Put your values into practice. Become a Knights of Columbus family. Interested? O Most Holy Trinity, Who deigned to raise Venerable Anthony Vincent Gallo to the priesthood, and endowed him with precious gifts, especially that of a burning love for suffering and immolation, we humbly beseech You, if it be Your will, that he may be glorified on earth, and that we may obtain through his intercession the particular grace which we ask for with living faith. Amen.
Are You Being Called to Serve? By virtue of our Baptism, we are all called to holiness— the lay faithful as well as Bishops, priests, and deacons. But have you felt called to serve in a much deeper and committed way? If you are a man between the ages of 30 and 60, who feels that you are being called to ordained ministry as a deacon in the Church, you are invited to come for an Evening of Prayer and Discernment with other men of faith to discuss and explore that very question. There is no cost to the evening—just your time and openness.
