From the Pastor’s Desk Dear Parishioners,

“I pray also for those who will believe in me through their word.” (John 17:20) We are preparing in our Scriptures for the glorious Solemnity of Pentecost. For the last few weeks in St. John’s Gospel, Jesus is preparing His Disciples for the reception of the power that will come from on high. One of the fruits of the Holy Spirit is unity. Unity in belief and unity in our actions. This unity is not expressed by each of us doing the “same thing,” but is seen as a sharing of hearts. It is an invitation to live and act in the one mind of Jesus. God has blessed each of us with gifts and talents. Each of the gifts we have received is different and unique and we are called to share them freely with Jesus and His life lived out in the Church. So, as we come to celebrate Pentecost next weekend, think about the gifts with which Jesus has blessed you. The first line of the Gospel, “those who believe in me through their words,” is certainly a way of living the unity that Jesus prays for. It is for us, the believers in Jesus, who are called to make a difference in our world. We are not just called to act in kindness and mercy, though those are certainly important attributes. The Scriptures are a little more specific, “through their word.” Our words are now compared to the Word of Jesus. We are invited to act not just in goodness, but also in the WORD. So this means that acts of kindness, mercy, and forgiveness are now part and parcel of the life of a believer. Those “good actions” are now done in the name and power of Jesus Christ. We are reminded that we must witness to those around us. This probably doesn’t mean in a pulpit, but certainly in our everyday dealings with those who come into our lives. To live as witness to those around us can certainly be a more daunting and difficult task. It’s easy, at times, to be forgiving to those we do not see very often. The challenge comes to offer that mercy to those we see and deal with each day. Maybe they have hurt us and continue to do so. Our forgiveness should not be based on whether they have sought it or not. It is gift freely given. Wow, how challenging is that! But that, my dear sisters and brothers, is what it means to live by our words. We profess faith in Jesus not just as a title but also as the WORD of God that invites us to a way of living and responding. So our “word” must stem from the WORD of God. So that in all we do and say we can respond in the unity of the heart of Jesus. That heart which calls us to action in compassion for all God’s people. In a very real and concrete way, it means a submission of our will to that of the Father. If we become so hardened in what we want or desire, we can break or weaken that bond of unity that Jesus so earnestly prayed for. As I mentioned, next Sunday is Pentecost. I would like to invite all people to wear something red that day. My hope is that the “external” may truly touch that which is called to be “internal” in our lives. Prepare your hearts during this week for the coming of the Holy Spirit in your own heart. In Jesus and Mary, Fr. Bob

My Dear Parishioners and Friends, As many of you have heard, our Holy Father, Pope Francis, has called for a universal Synod of the Church. The Holy Father hopes that the Church gathers to discuss questions of spirituality and our life of faith. The outcome he prays to achieve from this gathering of followers and the power of the Holy Spirit is to come to a deeper appreciation of our Catholic faith and be stronger evangelizers for the Church. As the pastor, I extend an invitation to all parishioners for an Evening of Prayer and Reflection on Thursday, June 9 at 7:00 PM in the Marian Room. Please encourage your family members, friends, and fellow parishioners to participate in this discussion, reflect, and pray upon our work here in Manhasset and around the world. Fr. Bob

Rosary Society Our Mission Statement: The Rosary Society fosters devotion to Mary through prayer and good works for causes that would be dear to her heart Invest 20 minutes of your day to pray the Rosary, and see the difference it will make in your life. If you would like the Rosarians to pray for a special intention, please e-mail us at rosarysociety@stmary.ws.

Rosary Society Closing Mass and Luncheon Wednesday, June 15th Details to follow. Tips for Praying the Mysteries of the Rosary TIP #2. Relax. It is easy to fall into the trap of trying so hard to do it all right, using the right prayers, speaking the right words, reflecting well on the mysteries, and all the other aspects of the Rosary. Remember it is the disposition of our heart that matters most. Don’t miss out on the peace that Jesus and Mary want to flood our hearts with when you pray the Rosary. (dynamiccatholic.org)

Feast of the Visitation -Tuesday, May 31st On May 31st, the Church celebrates the Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This feast commemorates the Blessed Mother’s visit to her cousin Elizabeth and the encounter of Jesus and St. John the Baptist while in the wombs of their mothers. Almighty and ever-living God, who while the Blessed Virgin Mary was carrying your Son in her womb, inspired her to visit Elizabeth, grant us, we pray, that, faithful to the promptings of the Spirit, we may magnify your greatness with the Virgin Mary at all times. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

Memorial Day - Monday, May 30th As we celebrate Memorial Day weekend, we’d like to share this recent correspondence from Mari Brady, Ranger Rosaries Central, in Maryland: Dear Marijo, thank you for the two boxes of rosaries containing 500 in total. We have processed them and are sending them off to Paris Island Marine Training Base. Please continue to make black or brown or green. These are the colors most requested. And of course, use up whatever other color supplies you have on hand. All rosaries find a home in the hands of a service member or veteran. Thanks so much to our Ranger Rosaries Group, for their time and effort volunteered in making hundreds of rosaries for our military personnel. As of April, they have made 14,659 Rosaries that have been shipped since 2014. If you’d like to learn more, and maybe get involved, please contact us at rosarysociety@stmary.ws

RCIA and Adult Faith Formation The RCIA Group Learns About Evangelization The RCIA group will study their final formal class on the subject of Evangelization. Having studied much about our Catholic Faith and ready to embrace it formally on Pentecost Sunday, they are charged with spreading the “Good News” to others. They will learn that Evangelization is as old as Christianity. Jesus’ last words to the Apostles before He ascended into Heaven were about evangelization. Evangelization is the “bottom line” for all ministries of the Church. Sister Teresa can be contacted about our RCIA and other Adult Faith Formation programs at 516-627-0385, ext. 1010. The Seventh Sunday of Easter | May 29, 2022

Nine Day Novena to the Holy Spirit Friday after Ascension Thursday through Saturday, the Vigil of Pentecost The novena in honor of the Holy Spirit is the oldest of all novenas since it was first made at the direction of Our Lord Himself when He sent His apostles back to Jerusalem to await the coming of the Holy Spirit on the first Pentecost. It is still the only novena officially prescribed by the Church. Addressed to the Third Person of the Blessed Trinity, it is a powerful plea for the light and strength and love so sorely needed by every Christian. Each Day’s Prayer begins with: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Let us bow down in humility at the power and grandeur of the Holy Spirit. Let us worship the Holy Trinity and give glory today to the Paraclete, our Advocate. Each Day’s Prayer ends with: Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and enkindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created. And You shall renew the face of the earth. O, God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit, did instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant that by the same Holy Spirit we may be truly wise and ever enjoy His consolations, through Christ Our Lord, Amen. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Day 1 - Charity O Holy Spirit, by Your power, Christ was raised from the dead to save us all. By Your grace, miracles are performed in Jesus’ name. By Your love, we are protected from evil. And so, we ask with humility and a beggar’s heart for Your gift of Charity within us. The great charity of all the the host of Saints is only made possible by your power, O Divine Spirit. Increase in me, the virtue of charity that I may love as God loves with the selflessness of the Saints. Holy Spirit we ask for the grace of [Mention your intention here]. Amen.

Day 2 - Joy O Holy Spirit, by Your power, Christ was raised from the dead to save us all. By Your grace, miracles are performed in Jesus’ name. By Your love, we are protected from evil. And so, we ask with humility and a beggar’s heart for Your gift of Joy within us. All of the Saints are marked with an uncompromisable Joy in times of trial, difficulty and pain. Give us, O Holy Spirit, the Joy that surpasses all understanding that we may live as a witness to Your love and fidelity! Holy Spirit we ask for the grace of [Mention your intention here]. Amen.

Day 3 - Peace O Holy Spirit, by Your power, Christ was raised from the dead to save us all. By Your grace, miracles are performed in Jesus’ name. By Your love, we are protected from evil. And so, we ask with humility and a beggar’s heart for Your gift of Peace within us. The Saints were tempted, attacked and accused by the devil who is the destroyer of peace. When we are accused by the devil, come to our aid as our Advocate and give us Peace that lasts through all trials! Holy Spirit we ask for the grace of [Mention your intention here]. Amen.

Day 4 - Patience O Holy Spirit, by Your power, Christ was raised from the dead to save us all. By Your grace, miracles are performed in Jesus’ name. By Your love, we are protected from evil. And so, we ask with humility and a beggar’s heart for Your gift of Patience within us. O Holy Spirit, you give lavishly to those who ask. Please give us the patience of the Saints who are now with you in heaven. Help us to endure everything with an eternal patience that is only possible with your help. Holy Spirit we ask for the grace of [Mention your intention here]. Amen.

Day 5 - Kindness O Holy Spirit, by Your power, Christ was raised from the dead to save us all. By Your grace, miracles are performed in Jesus’ name. By Your love, we are protected from evil. And so, we ask with humility and a beggar’s heart for Your gift of Kindness within us. Jesus approached sinners with immense kindness. Holy Paraclete, please treat us humble sinners with the same kindness and give us the ability to treat all others with that kindness as well. Holy Spirit we ask for the grace of [Mention your intention here]. Amen.

Day 6 - Faithfulness O Holy Spirit, by Your power, Christ was raised from the dead to save us all. By Your grace, miracles are performed in Jesus’ name. By Your love, we are protected from evil. And so, we ask with humility and a beggar’s heart for Your gift of Faithfulness within us. You, oh Lord, are ever faithful. You are faithful until the end. Though we are weak and distracted, please give us the grace to be faithful to You as you are to us! Holy Spirit we ask for the grace of [Mention your intention here]. Amen. Day 7 - Gentleness O Holy Spirit, by Your power, Christ was raised from the dead to save us all. By Your grace, miracles are performed in Jesus’ name. By Your love, we are protected from evil. And so, we ask with humility and a beggar’s heart for Your gift of Gentleness within us. Despite the gravity of our sins, oh Lord you treat us with Gentleness. Dear Holy Spirit, give us your power to treat all in our lives with the Gentleness of the Saints. Holy Spirit we ask for the grace of [Mention your intention here]. Amen. Day 8 - Self-Control O Holy Spirit, by Your power, Christ was raised from the dead to save us all. By Your grace, miracles are performed in Jesus’ name. By Your love, we are protected from evil. And so, we ask with humility and a beggar’s heart for Your gift of Self-Control within us. Your Martyrs had the overwhelming self-control to go joyfully to a painful death without shrinking from the opportunity to join You in heaven. Give us this self-control to have command over our emotions and desires that we may serve You more fully. Holy Spirit we ask for the grace of [Mention your intention here]. Amen.

Day 9 - Goodness O Holy Spirit, by Your power, Christ was raised from the dead to save us all. By Your grace, miracles are performed in Jesus’ name. By Your love, we are protected from evil. And so, we ask with humility and a beggar’s heart for Goodness within us. We want to be like your Saints in heaven. Holy Spirit, renew us by your power with your Goodness that we may bring the Good News to the world. Holy Spirit we ask for the grace of [Mention your intention here]. Amen.

SUMMER SUMME ER

CAMPS PS S

Religious Education Dear St. Mary’s Parish Family, As the end of classes draws near (May 26th), I would like to once again encourage all students to complete their remaining online work for the year. The arrival of summer always brings a flurry of activities that will need student time and attention. We understand that final exams approach along with many other academic requirements. Thank you for your efforts to prioritize the completion of the 2021/2022 catechism.

Reflection on 2021/2022 This is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the memories we created this year as a parish community. Well over seven hundred students have or will soon successfully complete their catechism at the Church of St. Mary. We are blessed to bring the Gospel to such a large student community across Long Island. This year, it was wonderful to hold special seasonal events within the Church. We explored the significance of Advent, the meaning of the sacraments and the gift of our Catholic faith. Spiritual preparation and celebration of the sacraments of Reconciliation, First Eucharist and Confirmation were our greatest joy. God’s grace made it possible for Confirmand to again partake in the retreat experience at the Seminary of Immaculate Conception. We are so thankful to have reunited the Sisters of Renewal with our students after a several year freeze due to COVID-19. It was truly a most beautiful day of spiritual reflection for all of us. All of the blessings we experienced this year were especially made possible by St. Mary Catechists who are so committed to our students and program. The generous sharing of their faith, time and even their own backyard for catechetical gatherings is truly unique to St. Mary’s Parish. Our gratitude for them always abounds! With the return to in-person classes next year, it is my sincere hope that they will return in the fall. Thank you Catechists - for all your love and support this year. It is a joy to look back at the ways God has been so lovingly present. We are grateful for all of our parish families, teachers, principals and especially thankful for our pastor Fr. Bob and parish priests for the work they do every day to spiritually guide the St. Mary Religious Education program. I would also like to express my gratitude to our Religious Education Coordinator, JP von Uffel, for bringing great joy and deep commitment to the success of all that we do in Christ. The peaceful days of summer are almost upon us. Thank you for choosing the St. Mary Religious Education program for your children. Exposition and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament Adoration Prayer for God’s Greatness “Come, let us tell of the Lord’s greatness; let us exalt his name together.” (Psalm 34:3) Dear Lord, I adore you because you are great, and greatly to be praised! (Psalm 145:3) All I have to do is look around to see your greatness displayed. Creation shows me your wonderful work, your power and beauty in all things. Romans 11:36 reminds me of this, “For everything comes from him and exists by his power and is intended for his glory. All glory to him forever!” When I slow down from the busyness of life, I notice you more. I hear you in the birds singing and sense your presence in the gentle wind. I get a glimpse of your goodness in the miracle of new life. The morning sunrise reminds me of your mercies Exposition that begin fresh every morning (Lamentations 3:22). As I go about my day, I will admire and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament how great you are by pausing to enjoy what you created. In the holy name of your son Jesus I with Benediction pray, Amen.
