Respect Life Ministry Please Join St. Mary’s Respect Life Ministry as We Pray

One Thousand Hail Marys

for Peace in the Holy Land, in our country, and around the world

Saturday, December 9th Following the 9:00 AM Mass, until mid-afternoon, in the side Chapel Our Blessed Mother has promised that with prayer, there can be peace in the world. Please join us, if only for a few minutes!

Each life is precious. As Catholics, we know something many of our brothers and sisters in the Middle East do not know: the power of Our Lady’s intercession for peace, in particular through the Rosary. With so many lives lost, countless lives in turmoil, and atrocities committed against babies and people of all ages in the Holy Land, we ask that you pray particularly for peace. St. Mary’s Respect Life Ministry will hold its monthly meeting on Wednesday, November 29th, 2023, at 7:00 PM, in the St. John Paul II Room of the Parish Center. Newcomers welcome! Please consider joining us — and bring friends and family. Very often a simple invitation is enough to encourage someone to participate. We will discuss ways we can follow and implement for St. Mary’s the three important steps outlined by Bishop Barres: (1) stay informed and educated, (2) get involved, and (3) PRAY! St. Mary’s Respect Life Ministry encourages you to share in our pro-life efforts — your help is needed now more than ever! For more information about St. Mary’s Respect Life Ministry, email RespectLife@StMary.ws

Champions for Charity Event is this week: Thursday, November 30th - Saturday, December 2nd. Please remember to register and present your card at the time of purchase. Details may be found on page 15 of this bulletin. On November 27th, we celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal “O Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to you.” The Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to a Sister of Charity, (St.) Catherine Laboure, numerous times in her convent’s chapel in Paris during 1830. Our Lady warned St. Catherine of wars to come, in 1830, and again in 1860. On November 27th, 1830, Mary appeared standing on a globe. Rays of light shone from her hands, and she explained to St. Catherine that these were the graces that would be given to anyone who asked for them. St. Catherine was shown an image, now familiar to every Catholic as the Miraculous Medal. Mary asked her to have a medal struck after a model of this image, and to spread devotion to this medal. After two years of investigation, approval was given for the medals to be struck and distributed. So many stories of healings quickly circulated that the medal soon became known as “miraculous.” The chapel, where St. Catherine experienced her visions, is located at the mother house of the Daughters of Charity in Paris. The incorrupt bodies of both St. Catherine Labouré and Saint Louise de Marrillac (a co-founder of the Congregation of the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul), are interred in the chapel.

Next Saturday, December 2nd, is First Saturday. The devotion will take place after the 9:00 AM Mass. The Essential Elements of the Devotion are: 1. Go to confession (Can be within 8 days before or after the First Saturday) 2. Receive Holy Communion 3. Pray five decades of the Rosary 4. Keep Our Lady company for 15 minutes while meditating on the mysteries of the Rosary

YOUR HELP IS NEEDED! At Fr. Bob’s direction, a new project has begun to update and add to the history of the parish of St. Mary, Manhasset. ALL PARISHIONERS are asked to support this endeavor, as we search for documents, photos, and other items related to events during the past 170 years of St. Mary. If you have any of the following from any event, ministry, or of any of the Schools of St. Mary’s, sharing these would be greatly appreciated: Photos Journals, Programs Announcements Newspaper articles Family remembrances Information regarding: The Elementary and High School (s) Past pastors, priests, nuns, school principals Clergy & Religious who were parish residents Knights of Columbus, Rosary Society, and other ministries Celebrations, graduations, sacraments, galas, etc. Any and all of these would be very helpful. PLEASE NOTE: Any article of information which you wish to be returned can be “digitized” (scanned) and saved, then returned to you. Please include this request with your item with the contact information for its return to you. There will be a box placed in the Parish Office to receive these valuable pieces of our parish’s history. We appreciate any aid as we look forward to the Centennial of the Elementary School (in 2026) and the Parish’s 175th Anniversary (in 2028). CEDE Program Team Members Visit for an Interactive Lesson Saint Mary’s High School recently welcomed Catholic Entrepreneurship and Design Experience (CEDE) Program team members from The Catholic University of America. The CEDE Program is a part of the Busch School of Business, which encourages students to view entrepreneurship as a vocation and integrate the teachings of the Church into all aspects of their work. Our first-year students participated in a game of “pit” that helped them learn the essential business skills of communication and collaboration. We are grateful for our partnership with The Catholic University, officially launched in September at St. Mary’s as an exclusive opportunity for schools in New York.

Today as we celebrate Christ the King, we hear Jesus say: “…whatever you did for one of the least brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” Knowing that we find the face of Christ in the poor, this month, through your gifts, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul was able to serve families, providing food, paying for utility and rent bills, etc. Thank You! Our St. Vincent de Paul Conference is able to help our neighbors in need through the generosity of our St. Mary’s parishioners.
